Problems with pf() with certain noncentral values/degrees of freedom combinations
Hello all. It seems that the pf() function when used with noncentral parameters can behave badly at times. I've included some examples below, but what is happening is that with some combinations of df and ncp parameters, regardless of how large the quantile gets, the same probability value is returned. Upon first glance noncentral values greater than 200 may seem large, but they are in

Doubly Non-Central F-Distribution
Dear Professor I have read your questions in the website on Doubly non-central F-distribution. I am looking for source code for evaluating this function now. I have matlab code but it's only accurate up to the 4th decimal point. Dataplot is more accurate, but it is not user friendly as you only can evaluate one function at a time. So I would like to know do you have found any R code for

Sometimes having problems finding a minimum using optim(), optimize(), and nlm() (while searching for noncentral F parameters)
Hi everyone. I have a problem that I have been unable to determine either the best way to proceed and why the methods I'm trying to use sometimes fail. I'm using the pf() function in an optimization function to find a noncentrality parameter that leads to a specific value at a specified quantile. My goal is to have a general function that returns the noncentrality parameter that

doubly multivariate analysis in R
20 subjects were measured in 5 conditions (thus repeated measures) and for each subject in each condition there are 4 response measures (thus multivariate as it is a combined score that needs to be compared across the conditions). So, using a multivariate approach to repeated measures this is a doubly multivariate analysis. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to do such a

Export knfsd/ext3 on doubly patched kernel(knfsd/reiserfs) OK?
Hi - if I have a doubly patched kernel (2.4.5) (1) Apply gkernel/CVS ext3 patches (2) Apply Neil Brown/Reiserfs team knfsd and reiserfs patches Will ext3 be exportable by knfsd (i.e. inherit automagically the nfsd_operations thingies from ext2) or does it need further patching? -- Chan Shih-Ping (Richard) <cshihpin@dso.org.sg> DSO National Laboratories 20 Science Park Drive

Non-Central t
In the help file for the non-central t, the following appears: ncp: non-centrality parameter delta; currently `ncp <= 37.62'. I assume that this means the ncp cannot exceed 37.62. Is this still the case and is there any plans to increase this restriction? Thanks! Jeff Jeff Morris Design Support Clinical Chemistry R&D Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics email: jmorris6 at ocdus.jnj.com

Fitting Mixture of Non-Central Student's t Distributions
Dear all, I am attempting to model some one-dimensional data using a mixture model of non-central Student's t distributions. However, I haven't been able to find any R package that provides this functionality. Could there be a way to "manipulate" the EM algorithms from the mixdist or mixtools package to fit the model, or do you have any other suggestions? If anyone could help

Integrate() error message, I am at a loss
Hello! I have a problem with integrate() in my function nctspa(). Integrate produces an error message "evaluation of function gave a result of wrong length". I don't know what that means. Could anyone suggest me what is wrong with my function? These are the examples of function calls that work OK: nctspa(a=1:10,n=5) nctspa(a=1:10, n=5, mu=2, theta=3, renorm=0) This does not work:

Modifying Internal C Files
Hi All. I want to tweak a few minor things inside of internal C code. I have my Win. XP machine set-up to build packages (including C code), but I'm having problems getting the package to run correctly. In particular, I want to modify a few things inside of pnbeta.c (namely errmax and itrmax), which is what the pbeta() function calls upon when there is a noncentral parameter. I copied the

Looking for non-central F quantile
Greetings all, I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the inverse CDF (i.e. a quantile) for a non-central F distribution. I could put together a quick numerical solver routine using the CDF, but I wonder if there's a function that I've missed that would be more efficient? anova power calculations
I sent a message a couple days ago about doing calculations for power of the ANOVA. Several people got back to me very quickly which I really appreciated. I'm working now on a similar problem, but instead of a balanced ANOVA, I have an unbalanced one. The first part of the question was: You assume that the within-population standard deviations all equal 9. You set the Type 1 error rate at รก

Accuracy problem in dchisq for non-central chi-squared
Hi, I think I have identified a inaccuracy in dchisq when the non-centrality parameter is non-zero and large. Here's a little test: sys.dchisq.test <- function(N = 100000,mean = 0) { z <- rnorm(N,mean = mean, sd = 1) x <- z^2 xmin <- min(x) xmax <- max(x) br <- seq(xmin,xmax,length = 101) dbr <- br[2]-br[1] hist(x,br) p <- dchisq(br,df = 1,ncp =

Noncentral t & F distributions
Dear List: The square of the noncentral t-statistic with noncentrality parameter \delta is a noncentral F with noncentrality parameter \lambda=\delta^2. So, t^2_{\nu,\delta} = F_{1,\nu,\lambda=\delta^2}. Consequently, it should follow that t^2_{1-\alpha/2,\nu,\delta} = f_{1-alpha,1,\vu,\lambda=\delta^2}. However, this is not what is happening with the following code. The central

oplock behavior of samba 3.2.6 causes corruption of netscape mailbox files, mails seem to be received doubly or triply
Hi guys, we're running a samba server on a sles 9 with sp2. The server hosts the netscape mailbox files for our users in our terminal server environment. There were never problems with these files. After upgrading from samba 3.0.21 to 3.2.6 (sernet-built) the mailbox files of nearly all users got corrupt while working with netscape. We got the following symptoms. The users seem to receive

Doubly Multivariate LME
Dear R: I am trying to fit a doubly multivariate LME (DM) where I have two response variables measured on two occasions per person. Specifically, reading and math scores measured at the beginning and ending of a school year. The response variables have a correlation of r = .85. The response variables in the data matrix are stacked in a vector with a dummy code flagging each outcome and with
