[LLVMdev] LLVM Developers Meeting - Dinner (Response needed)
LLVM Developer Meeting Attendees, I need to get a count of the people planning to stay after the meeting for dinner. If we have a large enough group, we may need to make special arrangements. Attendees will have to pay for their own dinner, but we can get reservations or possibly reserve a banquet room. So please email me by May 11th, if you plan to go to dinner. Thanks, Tanya Lattner

+1, i'm just glad you're making progress on a promising option! file_column mangling URL
Hey, I''ve gotten file_column to upload a file, drop it in the dynamic directory, but I can''t display the image, the directories repeat themselves: My model: class Person < ActiveRecord::Base file_column :image_url In my view: <%= image_tag url_for_file_column(''person'', ''image_url'') %> HTML generated is this: <img

Inheritance Question
Hi, My application has a table of People that has information about them, and I want to have a subset of those people as Users - people that can login to the application. What is the best way to do this? Add columns to People that only Users would use? I''ve read the threads on single table inheritance, but it seemed a little bit wasteful: 10,000 people vs 50 users For those more

Why doesn''t this work!
I have this in my controller... @tech_standards = TechStandard.find_by_sql("SELECT * FROM tech_standards WHERE subpoint <> 0") Everything is fine except when I look at my view I still get supoints that are 0. When I run this query in my query browser I don''t. View: <select name="resource[tech_standard]" id="tech_standard">

Models and Modules and subclassing, oh my!
So, our application has a large number of models at this point, and I''m getting a bit worried about people having to use long names, as well as clashes in the global namespace. More recently I wanted to add a new table with some STI subclasses of that table... module Portal end class Portal::Base < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :widget end However, Widget is a top level class,

[LLVMdev] [lld] Subclassing LayoutPass
Hi, I think it would be great if we could subclass the LayoutPass. All the generic functionality could be in the parent to run the layout-after/in-group/ and currently the layout-before passes(until it gets removed). Flavors can *choose to run the layout passes* that they use and determine the way things get ordered in the layout pass. The compare function in the LayoutPass would call

subclassing vs mixins, which one should be used?
Hey all, I have two models in my rails project that share a lot of traits. They each have the same 4 properties, and now I need to add 2-3 methods to each one that will be the same. In the spirit of DRY I am looking for a solution to write these methods only once. Both of these models already inherit from ActiveRecord . . . and I didn''t know if it was safe to just "whip up" a

[LLVMdev] subclassing MCELFStreamer
Hi Jim, Daniel, The last time the topic of subclassing MCELFStreamer came up, you both were helpful in identifying ways to handle the use case without requiring subclassing. Can you please take a look at the context below and let me know if you have any suggestions? For reference, this was posted to the list yesterday under the subject "sub-classing MCObjectStreamer?": > Okay,

ActiveRecord subclassing best practises
Hi, I want some of my models to inherit from a custom ActiveRecord::Base class. Where is the best place to put this custom subclass? Actually, I just wanted to translate the default validate message so maybe there was a better thing to do than subclassing ActiveRecord::Base. belongs_to and has_many
I know this has been rehashed many times, but I don''t get it. I can''t find it documented to were I understand all the parts. I can make this work using Rails database design conventions, but in this case I am not able to do that. I find examples, but the ones I find do not follow the conventions. They also do not give enough information to understand what is going on. In
