rename app>controller subfolder crashes app
Help,
I changed a folder name in my app>controller from admin to company and
now I get a company is not a class error.
I do not have any custom routes set and have changed all references to
admin, no joy.
Does ruby / rails have a cache of the names?

First module gives "unknown action"
Hi, I''m using "Agile Web Dev. w/Rails", which is great but has a minimum
on grouping controllers into modules. I''ve successfully generated a
module scaffold, so I have:
app/controllers/admin_controller.rb
app/controllers/admin/things_controller.rb
(And the rest of the scaffold output, which seems normal.) However,
browsing to http://localhost:3000/admin/things/

Subfolders in Rails applications (newbie)
After about a week playing with Rails, I have built a couple of apps but
am still unable to get one thing to work: subfolders. (I am probably
using the wrong term here, but oh well...)
I would like my rails application to have controllers logically grouped
into folders. So for instance:
http://domain.com/accounting/accounts
http://domain.com/hr/employees
Here''s how I have tried to

Multiple Scaffolds
I''d like to create scaffolds for each of the tables in my database, but
would like to access them below the path: localhost:3000/admin
For example localhost:3000/admin/table1
localhost:3000/admin/table2
Where table1 and table2 would be the controller names respectively,
calling their own list.rhtml, show.rhtml, edit.rhtml, etc..
Any recommendations on how/where to

Controller Modules Messed Me Up
Modules are exactly what I needed to figure out, but once I started my
app over again putting my controller under a module folder, I can''t get
my basic app going.
Basically I have a News app, where we will post PR and other articles of
interest. It was working fine with a model/controller combo of
news/index for the public and news/admin for the administrators. Keep
in mind this

Module loading
I''ve looked high and low for the answer to this and can''t seem to find
anything that helps.
I have an admin section (much like Typo) where all controllers are based
on the Admin::BaseController.
My directory structure is
[RAILS]
-app
--controllers
---admin
----base_controller.rb
----products_controller.rb
Products controller is:
class Admin::ProductsController <

Prototype $$() on arbitary DOM element ?
I am bit confused with this function. Should I be able to pass in a DOM
element e.g. someAjaxRequest.responseXML and interrogate it ?
Seems not but perhaps I am missing something...

Design flaw with Fixtures?
I''ve been trying to add unit testing for collection of models with
complex relationships -- and failing miserably.
Because of the complexity of the relationships, I''m using a database
which validates foreign key constraints (PostgreSQL 8).
I''m finding it nearly impossible to generate tests that are independent
of each other. The basic problem is the DELETE then

categories and admin/categories - different controllers and templates?
Is there some way to have these two sets of URLs use
totally different controllers and templates?
categories/list
categories/show/1
admin/categories/list
admin/categories/edit/1
admin/categories/destroy/1
admin/categories/update/1
Besides, of course, using different controller names
;). The first URL is publicly accessible, while the
second contains admin functions. Also, with the

Status of Merb on JRuby
I''ve submitted a few patches on Trac to help get Merb running under
JRuby [0][1][2][3][4]. It''d be cool if any of you committers could
find the time to look them over and apply/reject them. They''re mostly
tiny, so it shouldn''t be too onerous.
With all of these patches applied, there are still 3 spec failures.
One is in the spec ''a merb mailer

I acquired a board identified as a Dialogic/4 for which I've not been

Thanks.

warning: toplevel constant XYZ referenced Admin:XYZ
I have an odd problem. I got controllers in a namespace and
controllers outside of the namespace. For example, I have a
PagesController and a Admin::PagesController.
When I run rspec from the top, tests pass and I get the following
warning:
spec/controllers/admin/pages_controller_spec.rb:4: warning: toplevel
constant PagesController referenced by Admin::PagesController
This makes no sense. I do

saving plots
Hi all, I am have an R script that makes many plots, and I would like to
string them into a movie file. To do that I have to save all of my plots as
jpegs or gifs. I don't want to go through all of my plots and save them by
hand though. Is there a way to automate saving the plots as a gif or a jpeg
so I can string them into a movie?
Thanks in advance

another routes question
i need help setting up the routes for my app.
I have created about 10 controllers in the app/controllers/pro
directory:
app/controllers/pro/address_controller.rb
app/controllers/pro/certification_controller.rb
app/controllers/pro/program_controller.rb
app/controllers/pro/program_controller.rb
and so on...
The problem is that I would like to also use app/controllers/pro as a
controller; so

Controllers More Than One Sub-Directory Deep?
Does anyone know how to make Rails aware of controllers that might
exist in directories that exist deeper than one level under the
app/controllers directory? I initially figured just adding additional
scope information might do the trik (i.e. Tabs::Admin::OneController
or Admin::Tabs::OneController), but that does not seem to work.
I''m guessing that I can just manually add these

file_column permissions
this is getting frustrating...
i installed file_column without a hitch for the first time to just play
around with. using the exact same steps as before, i try to use it with
one of my actual applications, and i get "permission denied" errors. i
figure there might be some conflict with my application so just for
kicks i do the exact same thing i did the first time to test

Validation depends on Controller
I know in the model we can add validations. But how about if I need
different validations depending on the controller.
For example...
1) if the User is being created from the accounts controller, I want to
REQUIRE the username be entered.
2) if the User is being created from the users controller, I want to NOT
REQUIRE the username.

Creating a comments system for multiple types of content
Hi all
My site has news entries, it has a party calendar and it has a blog.
Now I''d like to create a commenting system that in fact is quite simple,
but I wanna use it for all these 3 types of content.
My question: how can I do that? I maybe could add an association to all
three types in the comment model:
class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :news_item
belongs_to
