Source code for ppr (Projection Pursuit Regression)
Dear R users,
I am looking for the source code of the implementation of ppr (Projection
Pursuit Regression) in R.
It will be great if citations of the source papers on which the
implementation is based, are also provided.
Thank you,

Projection Pursuit Index
Dear R-developers,
I am trying to experiment with projection pursuit (PP), and different
indexes for the same, especially using the tourr package. However, I've
noticed that a PP index in the said package is only a function of the
projected data. Could I modify the function so that the index sees the
projection bases instead (or in addition to the data) ?
Alternatively, if some other package

Projection Pursuit
Hello,
Just a quick question about ppr in library modreg.
I have looked at Ripley and Venables 2002 and it says that projection
pursuit works "by projecting X in M carefully chosen directions"
I want to know how it choses the directions? I presume it moves around the
high-dimensional space of unit vectors finding ones that separate the
response variables, but how.
I looked at the

Constraints in projection pursuit regression
Hi,
I am solving a projection pursuit regression problem, of the
form y = \sum_i f_i (a_i^T x), where a_i are unknown directions, while
f_i are unknown univariate link functions. The following is known about
each f_i:
1. f_i (0) = 0 (that is, each f_i passes through the origin)
2. f_i is monotonic.
Is there a way to ensure that the function ppr() in R produces solutions that respect the

Crash report: projection pursuit & predict
Folks,
The projection pursuit regression function in the base R seems to crash when the optimization level is set to zero, i.e. the initial ridge terms are accepted without refitting. I encountered this problem in an out-of-sample prediction exercise using predict. But further investigation suggests the issue is with the ppr fit and predict just sppeds up the crash. The other optlevels seem to be

projection pursuit
Dear helpers
Does R have a package that performs projection pursuit density estimation? Or
anyone knows code in Matlab or C for example to do this?
Thank you all

Help with Projection Pursuit, ppr().
Hi,
Recently, I installed the 1.1.0 version of R (for Windows), since it includes an implementation of Projection Pursuit (I failed to write my own version of PP as a standalone C++ program).
As far as I know, R offers two interfaces/sintax for the ppr() function. The first one requieres a regression formula and a data frame. The other requieres X, a matrix with the explanatory variables, and Y,

Interpretation of csplit from rpart.object
Dear members of R-list,
I need to reproduce the rules of a decision tree. For that I need to use the
csplit information from the rpart.object. But I cannot uderstand the
information because from my example I get:
> rpart.tree$csplit
[,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [,6] [,7]
[1,] 1 3 3 1 3 3 3
[2,] 2 3 3 1 2 2 2
[3,] 1 3 3 1 3 3 3

Giving column names to a matrix
Heloo,
I have the following problem:
orig.data <- NULL
Inside a loop I have instructions like:
orig.data <- rbind(orig.data, ...)
After that I do:
colnames(orig.data)<-c('Data','InicioViagem', ...)
Everything works fine.
For example, the first line of the matrix is:
> orig.data[1,]
Data InicioViagem ...
1 40466 ...
The problem is: I

"Pursuit of Happiness" ? Are you sure ?
I always kind of liked this title (the title of Davids super Rails
presentation), but then I saw this quote today:
"The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue
happiness you''ll never find it." by C.P Snow
I''d have to agree with this quote. It''s the same as love... go looking for
it, and you''ll never find it.
Soooo... David,

0.64.1 alpha floating point exception in make check
I received a floating point exception from "make check" on a Linux

R-base-0.64.1-5.src.rpm packaged by Red Hat Contrib|Net. make check
fails with return code 136 from modreg-Ex.Rout. The final output is:

windowing strategies
Hello to everybody,
Does anyone has implemented a function for evaluating models using windowing
strategies, such as growing window or sliding window ones?
The aim is to evaluate regression models on a time series data. I do not use
cross-validation once data sorted in a radom way does not make sense when
evaluating time series.
Thanks

Error in save.image(): image could not be renamed
Hello,
I am doing intensive tests on SVMs parameter selection. Once a while I got the
error:
Error in save.image(): image could not be renamed and is left in .RDataTmp1
I cannot use the information saves in .RDataTmp1. When that happens I loose
several hours of tests. It happens, ussualy when the computer is locked, i.e.,
there is not other relevant processes running on. I can do tests and get

Converting strings to date
Hello,
I have the following problem:
test is a data frame with 9 fields. The field test$Date is factorized with dates. The format is dd-mm-yyyy (using Oracle notation). I want to convert this to Date in '%Y-%m-%d format.
What I am doing is:
for (i in 1:nrow(test))
{
test[i,]$Data<-strptime(substring(test[i,]$Data,1,10),"%d-%m-%Y")
}
test is a data frame.
The error is:

Finding a decision tree's leaf node from a new value
Dear mailinglist members,
I have the following problem: I run a decision tree using the rpart function and, afterwords, I try to find to which leaf node a new register (not used to build the decision tree) belongs to.
I will try to explain better:
rpart.tree <- rpart(target.value ~., data)
leaf.node <- new.function(rpart.tree, new.register)
The new register has all the explanatory values

Migrating domain using IMAPc
Hi list,
I'm trying to do a domain migration using the imapc feature, but i'm having
some problems and I really don't know what is happening.
So if you guys could help me with a path to solve this, I will be glad.
I'm using Dovecot 2.1.7 in a Debian Wheezy machine.
The command I'm using is:
dsync -Dv -o imapc_features=rfc822.size -o imapc_host=IP -o imapc_port=143

Data.frames with different line's length
Hello,
I want to create a data.frame with different number of columns per line. What I want is something like:
example <- NULL
begin <- 1
while (end < nrow(orig.data))
{
end <- next.day(orig.data,begin) # my own function. It returns the first index from the next day. Each day has a different number of records.
example <- rbind(example, c(begin, end, predictions[c(begin:end)],
