Support .cda as input files
Hi list, I would really like to see support for .cda as input files. The cda format is the one used on regular audio CDs. Support for this format would make it even easier to encode to FLAC from CDs -- Daniel Aleksandersen

a statistics question
Hi there, I have a statistics question on a classification problem: Suppose I have 1000 binary variables and one binary dependent variable. I want to find a way similar to PCA, in which I can find a couple of combinations of those variables to discriminate best according to the dependent variable. It is not only for dimension reduction, but more important, for finding best way to construct

TukeyHSD for multiple response
Dear all, I'm testing the effect of species and sex in my sample by using the principal component scores of a PCA analysis. I have 30 PCs and I tried to see if there is any significant difference from males to females, given that there is a significant effect of phylogeny (factor with several species). I didi it like this: Y<-PCA$pc.scores[,1:30] fit <- manova(Y ~ sp*sex)

TukeyHSD for multiple response
Hi Sergio Doing those tests 30 times is going to give you a huge Type I error rate, even if there was a function that did that. There is a reason why TukeyHSD doesn't make it easy. In general, if there are useful comparisons among the species, you are better off setting up and testing contrasts than doing all-pairwise Tukey tests. Also, the PCA scores are ordered in terms of variance

p-values for classification
Dear All, I'm classifying some data with various methods (binary classification). I'm interpreting the results via a confusion matrix from which I calculate the sensitifity and the fdr. The classifiers are trained on 575 data points and my test set has 50 data points. I'd like to calculate p-values for obtaining <=fdr and >=sensitifity for each classifier. I was thinking about

Support .cda as input files
does anybody know why dvd use files for audio and video but audio cd's not? What could be the reason for this? e.g. they could make a file for each track and just put them on an audio cd and make cd players compatible with this format. So for me it has always been a mystery why audio cd's work this way. does anybody knows if super audio cd's still work the same as normal ones?

have to point it out again: a distribution question
Stock returns and other financial data have often found to be heavy-tailed. Even Cauchy distributions (without even a first absolute moment) have been entertained as models. Your qq function subtracts numbers on the scale of a normal (0,1) distribution from the input data. When the input data are scaled so that they are insignificant compared to 1, say, then you get essentially the

Value lables, variable lables
I'm looking for an analogy to SPSS and "variable lable" and "value lable" in R. I have a copy of S+4.0 and can't find any info in their docs, and don't find it in R-intro either. In SPSS, for each variable, there is a name like VAR001 and a variable lable (a longer descriptive string) like Respondent ID and for many of the values of other variables there are

an interesting qqnorm question
Hi, r-gurus: I happened to have a question in my work: I have a dataset, which has only one dimention, like 0.99037297527605 0.991179836732708 0.995635340631367 0.997186769599305 0.991632565640424 0.984047197106486 0.99225943762649 1.00555642128421 0.993725402926564 .... the data is saved in a file called f392.txt. I used the following codes to play around :)

Data labels in R
I need to put labels in plot in R. Can someone please help? [Q] Format of a plot axis label
Dear R-users Can anyone please tell me how to format a label of a plot? I found that R uses a floating point number (e.g. 2.0) sometimes and an integer number (e.g. 2) other times in lables of a plot even though no floating number is needed to show the lables. How can I get R to use only integer numbers in the plot labels? Thanks in advance. Young-Jin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

y-axis and resizing window
hi using plot(..., las=1), i.e. horizontal axis labels, the labels on the y-axis jams if the heigth of the graphics windov becomes too low while both x-axis and y-axis kind of removes superflus lables with las=0 (default) is there a way to make plot behave alike with horizontal lables? regards s??ren

keep the centre fixed in K-means clustering
Dear R users I have the matrix of the centres of some clusters, e.g. 20 clusters each with 100 dimentions, so this matrix contains 20 rows * 100 columns numeric values. I have collected new data (each with 100 numeric values) and would like to keep the above 20 centres fixed/'unmoved' whilst just see how my new data fit in this grouping system, e.g. if the data is close to cluster 1

[Flac-dev] Support .cda as input files
What are you using for FLAC now, Daniel? flac.exe? Or (one of) the Windows GUI apps? I suppose you realize that flac.exe probably won't allow drag and drop encoding. Why don't you contact one of the authors of the PC Windows GUI apps to suggest this feature? That's the only place it will help the basic users. I believe that this list is focused on the low-level FLAC source

Take care with codes()! (was type of representation)
Ahh yes, sorry about that. Here's the corrected snippet: # Create an Example Data Frame Containing Car x Color data carnames <- c("bmw","renault","mercedes","seat") carcolors <- c("red","white","silver","green") datavals <- round(rnorm(16, mean=10, sd=4),1) data <- data.frame(Car=rep(carnames,4),
