FW: Drawing maps of UK
Hi Guys Thanks for this! As I am a beginner, I bet I'm running into some really basic problems. Using the example from the Map2poly function in maptools: try <- read.shape("euadmll.shp") mappolys <- Map2poly(try) # this produces 14 warnings() of the type: # 1: level 2 circularity at 62 in: .mtlbuild(.mtafters(r1), rD) # etc # 14: From next release, default hole handling

validates_format_of on an optional field using :if
Hi there, I''ve got the following in my model: validates_format_of :postcode, :with => /^([a-zA-Z]{1,2}[0-9]{1,2} [0-9]{1}[a-zA-Z]{2})$/, :message => "is not valid", :if => :postcode ... but it''s not working - it always insists on validation, even if postcode is empty. Basically, the postcode field is optional, but if it''s filled in, I want to

Ccreating methods on the fly / counting distinct field values
Hi, I''m pretty new to ruby and rails, so apologies if this has been covered before (I couldn''t find a thread on it). I want to retrieve a count of records held in the DB for every distinct value of an attribute. E.g. given a class Address with a postcode field, I would like to retrieve an array of ValueCount objects. The ValueCount object would hold the value retrieved from

Hi All, I have a data frame with three columns i.e., pc, lat, lon. The pc column is populated with list of postcodes, and I want to execute R command that can get me the lat and lon for the every item in the pc column and populate the respective lat and lon columns. Is there any package that could be used? Any help will be really appreciated. Many Thanks and Kind Regards -- Muhammad

Misalignment of <NA> in rownames (PR#1905)
An NA in the rownames of a matrix (or dataframe) causes misalignment when the matrix is printed: R> x <- matrix(1:12, 3,4, dimnames=list(letters[1:3], LETTERS[1:4])) R> rownames(x)[2] <- NA R> x A B C D a 1 4 7 10 <NA> 2 5 8 11 c 3 6 9 12 The bug is in function Rstrlen, in src/main/printutils.c. MatrixRowLabel and MatrixColumnLabel (same file) rely on Rstrlen

Incomplete Gamma Functions and GammaDistribution Doc errata.
Hello all, In the course of trying to implement the CDF of an InverseGammaDistribution, I have run across the need for an igamma() function. Several others have needed this function but the answers I have found so far are not totally clear to me. I'm writing for three reasons: 1) to present a small error in the docs 2) to clarify the approach we are expected to take 3) to request, for the

subset with NA
Easy question that I can't find an answer for. I'm trying to subset a data frame and want to exclude the positive values, i.e. I want the NA values. My data: > summary(temp$tuna) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. NA's 1 2 3 3 4 5 1211 Querying for subset(temp, tuna %in% "NA", select.... subset(temp, tuna == NA,

useful bit of code (hopefully)
Hi, I often find myself using bits of code like this inside ActiveRecord, perhaps it''s useful for others, or others can improve on it: ########### # fix user input before validating it before_validation :sanitize_input # santize input before actual validation is called # this uses the little methods defined below def sanitize_input trim %w(adres postcode woonplaats email naam

I know this should be quite basic question, but searched on regex syntax and that seems a bit scarey to me, any one can shot me a quick solution

Reuse Partials
Hi all, This is my first official post as RoR developer, so here it is. I''ve got a partial for a Address (Postcode, Address, City, ...). I want to use this partial multiple times on the same form? So I want to fill in multiple addresses and insert them individualy. How do I go about doing this? Kind Regards, Eugene Louw -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

filled maps
Hi R-Help, I would like to make filled contour maps of ocean data overlaid by costlines from the map package. I can draw the filled contours and the coastlines om the same plot, but the filled contour also covers part of the land. To get rid of that I tried to draw a filled coastline map on top of the filled contour, but the filled map only draws the closed contours - so most of the land is

Drawing a rectangle around a barplot()
Hi I want to draw a rectangle behind a barplot such that it highlights those particular bars from the rest of the plot. I have figured out how to draw a barplot(), and then how to draw a rectangle of the correct shape and size (using rect()), but when I use rect() it draws over the top of the bars, and then when I re-draw the bars, it draws with a white background, thus eliminating my rectangle!

Re: Writing graphics code (was: [R] get vector data from contour)
I submitted a message to r-help this morning that really belongs in r-devel; here's its URL in the archive: <http://www.r-project.org/nocvs/mail/r-help/2001/0693.html>. In summary, I suggest that R graphics objects should be accessible and modifiable, but it raises some problems if you want to do it without pointers. Duncan Murdoch

Spec for validation plugin
Hi, I''m writing a specification for a model called Location which has a post_code attribute which should be a valid UK postcode. I''m using the http://svn.designbyfront.com/rails/plugins/validates_as_uk_postcode/ validates_as_uk_postcode plugin to handle the validation but I''m not sure how I should properly specify my model. Heres the model code: class Location <
