gnlr shape parameter
Is there a simple say of extracting the shape parameter from gnlr? The
return given is the actual function rather than the value. I have looked
at all the values returned by names(gnlr).
ie
gmod<-gnlr(data,....)
gmod$shape
returns the function definition rather than the value found.
Simple case I am using it is for censored normal data (rather simpler than
survival4 it seems). The value

Hi list,
I'd like to fit generalized gamma and weibull distributions to a number
of data sets. I've been searching around and found references to R and
Jim Lindsey's GNLM package, which has the gnlr and gnlr3 procedures that
can do this.

nls + quasi-poisson distribution
Hello R-helpers,
I would like to fit a non-linear function to data (Discrete X axis,
over-dispersed Poisson values on the Y axis).
I found the functions gnlr in the gnlm package from Jim Lindsey: this can
handle nonlinear regression equations for the parameters of Poisson and
negative binomial distributions, among others. I also found the function
nls2 in the software package

32 or 64 bit (4 gb ram)
Is there any real advantage to using 64 bit when I am right at the 4gb
ram threshhold? Nice plans to add more ram.
The machine will just be a backup machie (rsync).

acf(): meaning of the blue horizontal lines
Hello,
what are they meaning? It could be something that
would show a threshhold above which the result is
indicating different meanings then just random noise.
But there is no description on the definition of those lines,
so it means nothing, if it is not clearly defined.
Where can I find a detailed definiton?

delete-during and I/O errors
I've implemented a backups system and have come across a problem with
delete-during and I/O errors.
Currently I use a wrapper round rsync to create a LVM snapshot and rsync
the snapshot, this works except that when the snapshot threshhold is
exceeded LVM removes the snapshop, the mount fails and I/O errors happen.
This is ok, except with delete-during I'm getting instances of rsync

Hi
Are there any functions that de-convolute data into a given number of
clusters, rather like the NPMLE GLIM macros from Murray Aitkin and Brian
Francis? Basically I would like to code into R the same approach but
include the possiblility of some data being censored. In principle the
formulae are the same (just replace the likelihood function) but I haven't
managed to get my head round the

gnm and gnlr3
Hi,
I am quite new to R and would like to do nonlinear regressions with
Poisson distributed data.
I would like to estimate paramters of an equation of this type:
FR = [c*NO * exp(a+b*NO)] / [(c+NO)*(1+exp(a+b*NO))]
a,b and c are parameters, NO are input values
I found both the gnm and gnlr3 function which should be able to do this
regression but I can't manage to make it work.

Strange question/result about SVM
Hello,
I have a very unusual situation with an SVM and wanted to get the
group's opinion.
We developed an experiment where we train the SVM with one set of data
(train data) and then test with a completely independent set of data
(test data). The results were VERY good.

plot.window arguments being ignored?
Hi,
Why, when I run the script below, is my y-axis range command being ignored?
I.e., the y axis graphed consistently fits the line specified in the plot
command, but never fits the line I'm trying to add in the subsequent line
command.
This is my first R script, so if I'm doing anything else wacky that jumps
out, please let me know. I'm an advanced Stata user, but R is new to me.

Outlier colors in image()
Hi all,
I'd like to color outliers differently in image() function, say blue
for below a threshhold value and red for above a threshold value.
I was able to do this in levelplot() by using "col.regions" and "at" parameters.
But for a large matrix, i.e, 8000x200, the figure is just too slim in
levelplot, so I am turning toward using image().

Please respond to the list. It will be obvious why in a second.
That's not my threshhold! -- it's R's. Your numeric integers cannot be
exactly represented as integers in R. Period. Maybe there are special
packages for extended arithmetic that can do this. but someone else
would have to help you there. See here for a discussion that might be

(no subject) -- rename to optim() crash due to NA returned
While developing updates to optimization tools for R (I was behind 3 of
the 5 codes in optim(), but Brian Ripley did the implementation), I've
been seeing this kind of error when the objective function cannot be
computed so returns NA. Examples: attempts to divide by 0 or sqrt(-ve)
or log(0). A crude work-around is to detect bad situations when

fit.dist gnlm question, NaN and Inf results
I am attempting to fit discrete data (daily counts of arrivals of
recreational vessels at locks on a river) using the fit.dist package.
Some distributions return values of NaN and Inf for certain
situations, an example with Inf values is shown below.
