When starting xemacs with and Snw file *ESS* buffer contains hundrets of lines and the few last ones. Hi, When I start Xemacs version 21.5.28 (in Unix), using the init.el: (setq bell-volume 0) (setq sound-alist nil) (setq grep-find-use-xargs nil) (require 'ess-site) I get the following error: (1) (initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading $home/.xemacs/init.el: Cannot open load file: "ess-site" Backtrace follows: signal(file-error ("Cannot open

gnuclient problems witrh R/ESS in linux
Dear list, Not strictly R ... In R on Xemacs with ESS (R-2.0.1, Xemacs-21.4.15-r3, ESS-5.2.6) on gentoo-linux when I use k<-edit(k) or fix(k) to change a small vector k <- c(1,2,3,4,5,6) the opened window (called '6b8b4567') appears not to be connected to the gnuclient and I'm able to edit the file but has no instructions in the minibuffer and C-x # gives '6b8b4567 does

Emacs & ESS under Windows
After the discussions about appropriate editors under Windows to use with R, I have managed to install Emacs, XEmacs, and ESS under WinNT 4.0, and these work fine. It's not necessary to compile anything to use R with ESS, just to install Emacs and ESS, and do a few modifications in some files. XEmacs is also easy to install but apparently ESS cannot run with it (confirmed by a message by Tony

editing Sweave files in xemacs with ess (noweb), auctex and reftex
I am having some trouble getting reftex, in particular the bibtex related features, to work properly in xemacs when editing text in Sweave files. I have added (defun Rnw-mode () (noweb-mode) (if (fboundp 'R-mode) (setq noweb-default-code-mode 'R-mode))) (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.Rnw\\'" . Rnw-mode)) (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist

ess settings
Dear R users, I downloaded an ess-5.2.2 package and hope to use emacs as front to work with R. I modified ~/.emacs and start R by M-x R. But I found when I quited the R session, it still asked me to save the work space or not. I added inferior-R-args with "--save" args. But it seemed that it had no effect. Can you tell me how to pass the arguments other than --no-readline to

A hint to start ESS-xemacs
I'm trying to use ESS & xemacs under debian linux testing and KDE. My problem is that I didn't find any document in the internet explaining a **step by step** session with R and xemacs. The (wrong) procedure I follow (to no avail!) is: 1) I start R in a terminal window; 2) I start xemacs and open a file with the extension .R (test.R); 3) I issue M-x R RET and I can see an Rd new

ESS 5.1.19 w/Xemacs 21.4.6
Probably wrong group for this, but a quick question. I've just switched from emacs to Xemacs. In reinstalling ESS 5.1.19 I keep getting the following error when loading Xemacs: "Error in init file: Symbol's function definition is void: w32-using-nt" I've debugged the ess-site.el file, which is where the error originates from. The line causing the difficulty is:

Setting up Xemacs + Sweave
Dear list, I have tried to setup my Xemacs for use with Sweave, which I indend to learn. I have followed the instructions in the Sweave FAQ, that is to say, I put (defun Rnw-mode () (require 'ess-noweb) (noweb-mode) (if (fboundp 'R-mode) (setq noweb-default-code-mode 'R-mode))) (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.Rnw\\'" . ESS+R not closing gracefully
I am having trouble with ESS+R. I don't know if it is an ESS problem or an R problem, so I'm posting to this mailing list in the first instance. I am using R 1.6.2, Windows XP (latest updates installed), XEmacs 21.4, and ESS 5.1.21. I have experienced the same problem under Windows 2000 and recent versions of Emacs and ESS (though my current Windows XP installation is from scratch, and

Installing ESS under EMACS
Dear members, I have spent some time to make clear how I could write R programs from within EMACS using the ESS package, under Win98. Unfortunately, I have found this not quite clear for Windows 98 (though a lot of details are provided for UNIX). I have tried to create a .emacs file with a command such as (load "PATH/ess-site.el") and also added a "PATH=...\rw1010\" line in

using tcltk in R under ESS/XEmacs on Windows
Sorry for the cross-post. Not sure where the problem is... A while back I posted an R function to R-help: cd <- function (dir = tclvalue(tkchooseDirectory()), saveOld = FALSE, loadNew = TRUE) { stopifnot(require(tcltk)) if (saveOld) save.image(compress = TRUE) setwd(dir) rm(list = ls(all = TRUE, envir = .GlobalEnv), envir = .GlobalEnv) if (loadNew &&

ESS and Emacs
I have been using the document written by John Fox titled Sn Introduction to ESS + XEmacs for Windows Users of R. It's a very nice document and I went through it carefully but I got an error when I finished it and launched XEmacs. The error is "cannot open load file : ess-site". So, I did more investigation and it seems like there is a folder Program

Installation of R, Sweave, ESS and [X]Emacs on Windows?
I'm trying to get R, Sweave, ESS and XEmacs or emacs all installed and working together on my Windows XP Pro system. I've got R 2.6.0 working just fine, installed from the R Windows installer. I also have CYGWIN_NT-5.1 with XEmacs 21.4 working okay. Can anyone point me to any documentation on how to bring these together so that R code typed in Xemacs can be run in R? I found the ESS

r-mode (ESS/XEmacs)
Hello, please excuse me if this is not the appropriate mailing list, but I'll give it a try! I recently switched from using Emacs 20.7.1 to XEmacs 21.4, both on cygwin / MS W2K. On Emacs the ESS 5.1.17 was working well, but now, when calling R from within XEmacs, it first asks for the working directory, then says "R process is not running". The ESS buffer holds the
