Polymorphic Data Modelling Question
Hello,
I am not sure of the best way to model this situation in Rails and
would appreciate some guidance.
An order can hold multiple line items. Each line item is for a
certain number of any given product. There are four products, each
in a different table because they have completely different
attributes. So I have:
Order
- has many LineItems
LineItem
- belongs to an Order

Complex Through Statement
Quick Overview:
I have an ''Employee'', some ''Merchants'' and some ''Products''. A
''Merchant'' has many ''Products''. An ''Employee'' has multiple ''Merchants'',
depending on their relationship. For example, the Employee may be the
enrollment contact for one merchant and the

r format questions
Hi,
1) I have noticed that when I use the aggregate function it outputs numbers in the results. for example:
aggregate by product
group.1 Aggregate
1 ProductA 1000400.00
2 ProductB 23232323.00
3 Missing 232323.00
is there a way to suppress the numbers infront of aggregate outputs. I checked and they don't look like columns when I do a summary so I can't -1

can''t dump anonymous class Class
I''m trying to create a document upload system, where most of the code is
the super class Document and just the path to file on the system is
controlled by the sub classes. When I attempt to use my code, I get the
following when I try to save the document.

Any ideas?

Capistrano and Uploaded Documents
I have an application I''m working on which allows me to upload files. The
files are stored somewhere in the public directory so that they can be
accessed directly. When I deploy an update with Capistrano, I ''lose'' the
files because of the current symlink points to the new checked out version.
Before I start working on a solution, has anyone else already solved this

Problem with "can''t dump anonymous class Class"
I submitted this earlier, but the web forums went down and I''ve screwed up
the thread, so I''m starting over.
I''m trying to built a document upload system. The system has a main
Document model with different subclasses for different types of documents.
With the code below, if I attempt to create a Document, it works fine, but
if I attempt to use one of the subclasses, I

RadRails
Hi,
i was hoping someone could reffer me to a place i could learn about the
radrails application/editor/enviornment/... i was looking around for
a good editor/etc for developing my applications, and i somehow stumbled
up upon radrails ... at a first look, i am pleasantly shocked to see how
easy developing applications might be, but i was hoping to give it (the
first impression) a even

Mongrel + Apache 1.3 + OpenBSD
Hello,
I want to install a bunch mongrel servers with an apache in fronthead,
all that on OpenBSD. But OpenBSD is released with a homemade Apache
1.3.29 patched by the OpenBSD team. I really want to keep this version
of apache and I don''t want to change it to Apache 2.x (because of the
security and the license but it''s not the point here). But for having
mongrel, it has to be

environment and scoping
I haven't quite figured out how I can change the environment of a function.
I have a main function and want to use different auxillary functions, which I supply as parameter (or names). What I want to do is something like this:
main.fun=function(aux.fun,dat){
x <- 1
fun.dat()
}
aux.fun.one=function(){
mean(dat)+x
}
aux.fun.one=function(){
median(dat)-x
}

has_many :through with :order column on the join model
I have a model like so
class Product < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :image_links, :order => :position
has_many :product_images,
:order => ''image_links.position'',
:through => :image_links
end
The problem is that :order clause just gets ignored. How do you server
records in a specific order when the order column is on the join model?

NMB problems
Hello, I am having some trouble with NMB. My linux box doesn't appear in the
network neighbourhood (win 98).
In spite of this, I can still access the linux shared directory.
I have tried almost everything and lately I have been seeing this message in
the log.nmb file:
[2000/03/03 17:11:11, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(672)
Netbios nameserver version 2.0.3 started.

That is interesting news. I always go on about mpeg4 and h264 as if
they are the ideal, wheras in an ideal world something like ogg theora

ldap secondary/auxillary groups not available
I have a samba 3.0.20 installation that authenticates users using ntlm
to a MS DC. The samba installation was correctly able authenticate users
and map them to their unix uids and gids without an issue. The solaris
box that samba was running on was also using NIS for its naming
services.
I have recently migrated this machine that was using NIS for its naming
services to LDAP which is running

GlusterFS extended attributes, "system" namespace
Hi,
I'm running GlusterFS 3.3.2 and I'm having trouble getting geo-replication to work. I think it is a problem with extended attributes. I'll using ssh with a normal user to perform the replication.
On the server log in /var/log/glusterfs/geo-replication/VOLNAME/ssh?.log I'm getting an error "ReceClient: call ?:?:? (xtime) failed on peer with OSError". On the

Speccing private class methods
Hi
How can I specify that a private method of a class gets called? If
you run the code below, only spec (1) passes. Spec (2) is what I
found causing problems in my code, and class (3) is my failed attempt
to work around it. (3 really puzzles me - why is a private class
method not accessible via send?)
Another problem is that stub! makes public methods, which changes the

extra information your like.

openldap authentication
I have an existing openldap schema which is handling mail, web and ftp
services right now. I am trying to get a windows machine talking to the
same filesystem as apache on linux via samba and read/write using the
correct uid/gid. I was trying to shy away from using pam_ldap as there is
no need to tie the user in ldap directly to the filesystem. The problem is
it looks like the samba ldap module
