Final comment from a newbie_and another
I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe in time the list will divide into two whereby 'apparantly' simple questions will be answered without a curt rebuke! I too am now signing off the list and will bury my head in a manual ot two. As a last comment; everyone has to start the learning process somewhere and lets face it, with a deadline looming and what appears to be an insurmaountable question

Rails without Gems?
All, Caveat: New user naivete to follow. I''m starting an application in Rails and I can''t use Gems. (There are legal implications in deploying unknown code here.) But Rails seems to have an extraordinary dependence on Gems. If I say ''rails PROJECT'', then the PROJECT directory gets created with supporting scripts, etc., but since they work internally

Rails Deployment Book
I''ve been mulling over an idea for a book covering Ruby on Rails application deployment. Obvious topics include using Mongrel by itself and with Apache/Lighttpd, load balancers, memcached, and Capistrano. What other topics would you like to see covered in such a book? Deploying Ruby on Rails as a standalone exe
I''m trying to deploy a ruby on rails application. It uses sqlite3 for a database. What I would like to do is distribute it as a windows executable. It should be in such a way that the user can click on the application and everything will load and a full screen browser window will appear. This way the user will know nothing about it being a browser and need no ruby components installed

Root access over ssh?
Is it possible to configure rsync in server mode, to gain access to root protected files, without the user having to log in as root through ssh? I'd prefer to login as a regular user through ssh and access an rysnc server on the host that's running as root. As far as I can tell, however, that's not possible...am I wrong?

Problems with PPP internet T1
Hello all, We have a TE405P set up with span 1 running to a channel bank, a PRI running into span 2, and a PPP internet T1 running into span 3. We have the first 2 spans up and running without a problem. We have hdlc compiled into the kernel and after making the appropriate changes to zaptel.conf and loading the zaptel, wct4xxp, and hldc modules we can bring up the third span with the internet

Query Offset Parameter problem
Greetings, I''m trying to make a simple logging application that just displays the last few rows of information in the log. In order to do this, I am trying to use the ":offset" option for find. However, I am not getting the results I expect. For testing purposes, the query is being run against a table (MySQL) that contains 11 records. According to the RoR documentation,

[LLVMdev] Can I use Clang to parse snippets of C++ code?
I believe that what I'm trying to do with Clang is fairly simple; the final goal, however, might be a little harder. Knowing myself, there are chances I'll never go through with this project (like Mikael who posted earlier, I'm nothing but an enthusiastic student with lots of time on my hands), but it feels cool enough to me to announce my idea. Besides, I'll probably need help

ADS and samba domain member: ads_connect: Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requ
Thanks, Unfortunately, I still got the same error. I may be wrong, but it is like it does the automatic lookup process of kdc instead of using the krb5.conf file. However, as per my note below, if I do add bad config info to the krb5.conf, it does complain.
