A small addition to the manpage and "clone mode" suggestion
Dear developers, In the rsync's manpage, there is a line describing the "archive mode" option: -a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X) Archive mode means that all data is backed up sensibly while the same doesn't apply for all metadata (hence the mentioned -H, -A and -X options). There is another similar "special file system option" as

Filename problem (filenames containing slashes aka.\and /)
We _cannot_ go about renaming files, for a number of reasons.. the primary being some of the files are technically not ours to alter without a clients permission (names and all) and you don't understand just how many files there are. There are quite probably thousands of files, spread across _hundreds_ of cds and dvds which comes to a total of roughly 400GB. As to a Mac server, i'm not

Memory Problems when opening a small .exe file
I just downloaded the newest stable version of WINE and tried to run a .exe file. The program I am trying to run only uses 50mb or RAM and I am getting an error message that says I need at least 50 to run it. I have a 26 inch iMac with a quad core i% processor and 8gb of ram so there should be no memory problem. PS. I am new to Macintosh, so I hope this is'nt too much of an obvious question

Wishlist: addition to FAQ 2.7
After making quite a few circles around one particular issue (and eventually resolving it) I have a suggestion to make: Append the following to http://www.openssh.org/faq.html#2.7 "NOTE: In order to agent forwarding to work you need to have xauth installed in the remote host. In Debian xauth is in 'xbase-clients' package." And about that "F" in

Addition for the FAQ
I hope this is the correct place to suggest document changes. I hit a problem in setting up the rsyncd server last night, but finding the problem was masked by the FAQ's "is your shell clean" answer. I propose adding an additional paragraph to the response that says: If the remote machine is running rsyncd (that is, if the client's rsync command uses "::" instead of

Migrating the llvm-emacs mode to a separate git repository

Wouldn't svn be better here? It ought to allow you to checkout just the utils/emacs directory (or not even that with "svn cat").

mailtrain with dovecot antispam plugin
Hello all, and Johannes if you're around, I was trying to set up the "new" antispam plugin with the mailtrain backend, and i was trying to use the sendmail binary that's part of a qmail system. The message wouldn't get sent and i kept getting exit error 100 from the /var/qmail/bin/sendmail binary. To try to figure out what was happening, i mean a fake sendmail program,

local APIC error 0x40
Running FreeBSD 8.3 -- and updating sources on a daily base and building everything -- I found a new APIC/ACPI problem introduced in the past week. I have a Toshiba Satellite U205 with an Intel Core Duo (not a Core 2). It used to work fine with both cores but then sometime in on the road to BSD 8.0 the machine began hanging. So I added to /boot/loader.conf hint.apic.0.disabled="1"

R for Windows FAQ 2.8 suggestion
The current text for: 2.8 What's the best way to upgrade? says: "That's a matter of taste. For most people the best thing to do is to uninstall R (see the previous Q), install the new version, copy any installed packages to the library folder in the new installation, run update.packages() in the new R (`Update packages...' from the Packages menu, if you prefer) and then

Does anyone provide inbound UK numbers using IAX ?
Hi All, Is there anyone providing UK geographic numbers that can be terminated on Asterisk using IAX ? It must be a geographic number (eg. Start 01 or 02, not 08xx). I've tried the sipcall.co.uk service and it looks very good when using X-Lite but it will not work with Asterisk. Switching to IAX should also resolve issues around NAT - hurray! -Nathan

Packages on R 3.0.0
Hello all, I see that R 3.0.0 is announced (hurray!), and have a question regarding this line in the NEWS file: "Packages need to be (re-)installed under this version (3.0.0) of R." Assuming I copy my packages to the new library folder and run "update.packages" will it be enough? Or is there anything more to do? for example - for packages that I have which are already of the

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order?
