Econometrics Packages On R
Hello, I have just started using R, maybe more like learning it. I am interested in using it for Time Series Analysis and I wanted to know if anyone was familiar with packages other than TS that might be appropriate. Allan

Modeling presence only data in R
Dear All, I have a set of environental maps and presence-only points for some species. How can I generate distributions models on R using these presence-only data? What packages and functions can I use to do so? Kind regards, Miltinho Brazil [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

correlated random effects in GLMMGibbs ?
Dear R-users, I wondered if anyone has extended GLMMGibbs to include correlated random effects, and if so, whether they would be willing to let me use their code? Jonathan Myles has no plans to extend glmm in this manner within the foreseeable future. With thanks, Patty -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assoc Prof Patty Solomon

nlme, MASS and geoRglm for spatial autocorrelation?
Hi. I'm trying to perform what should be a reasonably basic analysis of some spatial presence/absence data but am somewhat overwhelmed by the options available and could do with a helpful pointer. My researches so far indicate that if my data were normal, I would simply use gls() (in nlme) and one of the various corSpatial functions (eg. corSpher() to be analagous to similar analysis in SAS)

grasper installation
Hello R user, I downloaded grasper_0.3-2.tar.gz and installed it as described. $ su $ R CMD INSTALL grasper_0.3-2.tar.gz $ R that seems to work, but > grasp.GUI() doesn't work. I read the note, that graspeR need mgcv (downloaded), MASS, modreg and tcktk . I haven't found the last 3 packetages in the Suse 8.1 contrib list. Where can I find them? Or what could be the problem? thanks in

Computational Ecologist Job at NOAA in Silver Spring, MD -- Marine Wildlife Spatial Modeling in R
The NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science is hiring a Computational Ecologist, a statistical/computational ecologist with experience fitting advanced spatial models to marine wildlife survey data (e.g., seabirds and marine mammal transects, fisheries trawl surveys) in R and other statistical languages. This is a full-time, long-term stable contract position. We are looking for an

tcl/tk problem
I have JUST started using R. I am using R 2.0.1 on a mac (os x) to run another program (called GRASPER, Generalized Regression Analysis and Spatial Prediction for R). When I try to run Grasper, I get an error for tcl/tk: > library(grasper) Loading required package: mgcv This is mgcv 1.1-8 Loading required package: MASS Loading required package: tcltk Error in dyn.load(x,

Replace missing values in spatial design using moving average
Dera R helpers, I have a (x,y,z) data file where x and y are spatial coordinates and z a variable. I have some missing values in the z column and I would like to replace them with an optimized estimation from the neighbour cells. I could not find any function in R to do that. Is anybody aware of such function ? Maybe someone knows how to implement the Papadakis method in R... Thanks for your

Grasper model error
I tried this over a the grasp users yahoo group and got no response....So I wonder if anyone here knows about grasper I keep getting this error when trying to run a model. Error in smooth.construct.tp.smooth.spec(object, data, knots) : Too many knots for t.p.r.s term: see `gam.control' to increase limit, or use a different basis, or see large data set help for `gam'. Coordinate systems for geostatistics in R
Hi, I read somewhere that when carrying out geostatistical analysis in R you should not use latitude and longitude...can anyone expand on this a little for me, and what would be the best coordinate system to use? I have my data in a geographic coordinate system, WGS84, decimal degrees....is this the wrong format for such analyses? I have also converted my data in the UTM projection and so have

Using R for large econometric models
Dear helpeRs, a colleague of mine would like to give R a try. He uses econometric models which typically involve a large number of variables, esp. time series. Having no experience with handling very large data sets myself I turn to you. 1. Could you please describe your experiences to cope with these situations? 2. What kind of difficulties will he have to face? Are there special

GraspeR - functions and GUI for spatial predictions written for R
Hi, I would like to announce the first version of GraspeR. It is a port of GRASP (Generalized Regression Analysis and Spatial Predictions) written for S-Plus, to R. It serves as an "automated" method for doing spatial predictions. You can find the first testing version at http://www.fivaz.ch/grasper/index.html. For now, I provide a dump file you can read with source(). A UNIX package is

Statistical analysis of a large database
Deall all, We need to perform a statistical analysis of a large database (40,000 entries with approximately 500 fields in each entry) currently handled in Oracle. The data contains categorical variables only. At the current stage we suggest classification and clustering analysis. We are planning to perform the analysis in R and would be very grateful for any

geoRglm with factor variable as covariable
Dear R users. I'm trying to fit a generalised linear spatial mode using the geoRglm package. To do so, I'm preparing my data (geodata) as follow: geoData9093 = as.geodata(data9093, coords.col= 17:18, data.col=15,* covar.col=16*) where covar.col is a factor variable (years in this case 90-91-92-93)). Then I run the model as follow: / model.5 = list(cov.pars=c(1,1),

packages for ecologists
Hello R-user, sorry for this very off-topic question. But I shall present R to my dept. (pro's and con's and what it can do). The pro's and con's are easy but not what R can do (additional to the "normal" statistics). I looked through the packages, but the enormous amount of packages makes it very difficult for me to decide which one is worth mentioning. I used
