Statistical analysis of a large database
Deall all,
We need to perform a statistical analysis of a large database (40,000 entries with approximately 500 fields in each entry) currently handled in Oracle. The data contains categorical variables only.
At the current stage we suggest classification and clustering analysis.
We are planning to perform the analysis in R and would be very grateful for any

R as Unix-Filter and Streams for DataMining
Hi,
i want to use R as a filter in a Unix-like way. So i want to start it
with
producerTool | R --no-save --no-restore --slave < Rscript |
anotherConsumerUnixTool
inside the Script i put the results to stdout, works fine, but how to

from stdin? Its obvious that i have to source the Rscript in a different
way. Any Hints?
My second question is, if there is a possibility to use

R installation problems...
Dear all
I already posted this problem to r-help in mid-decembre; see
http://www.r-project.org/nocvs/mail/r-help/2000/3876.html
But, up to now it did not manage to get R properly working.
I reinstalled R-1.0.0, R-1.1.1 and R-1.2.0 from scratch, and
always run into the same error message:

Literature needed
Howdy!
Could somebody point me to some good introductory readings about data
mining and descriptive data analysis? I'm a psychologist and a couple
of times I realized that some things just don't appear in
psychological literature, e.g. I've never seen a box plot anywhere in
psych journals so I'm not familiar with them. The R help function is
great when it comes to explaining

rpart unbalanced data
Hello all,
I am currently working with rpart to classify vegetation types by spectral
characteristics, and am comming up with poor classifications based on the fact
that I have some vegetation types that have only 15 observations, while others
have over 100. I have attempted to supply prior weights to the dataset, though
this does not improve the classification greatly. Could anyone supply some
