ActiveRBAC?
How''s the experience with using ActiveRBAC? For my "next 4 days with
rails" :P I''d like to consider adding Role-based access to the To-Do
List application in the original "four days w/ rails" tutorial.
Just wondering if ActiveRBAC would be a good place to start? Thanks!

Engines with InstantRails
I''ve recently started playing with InstantRails 1.0 and am now wanting
to experiment with the Login and active RBAC engines but having trouble
getting them to install.
I''ve checked the following but can''t find any info on how to get it to
work.

I''ve also tried the following:

Engine: Active_RBAC not working, missing require
Hi there,
I try to install the active_rbac plugin as described in the manual on
the active_rbac trac site. The installation through the plugin script
was great:
ruby script\plugin discover
ruby script\plugin install engines
ruby script\plugin install active_rbac
I set up the environment.rb in rails\config dir correctly to
Engines.start :active_rbac
But if I try a rake db:migrate:engines

Dedicated Host Recommendations?
I currently have a dedicated server at ev1servers, but
it''s getting rather antiquated (Redhat 9) and am
looking to upgrade. I''m thinking about serverbeach.com
- one of their CentOS servers. Anybody have any
recommendations for dedicated servers on which to run
Rails? Hopefully less than $200/month.
Thanks!

Problems with ActiveRbac plugin
*Sorry for the first mail without subject*
Hello,
I try to use the active_rbac plugin (0.3.1) with Rails 1.1.2 but can''t
succeed for the moment.
Here is what I did :
1 - install Engines Plugin
=> OK. ''rake engines:info'' gives me "1.1.1" as the engines plugin version.
2 - install Active_rbac plugin
=> OK. Files are copied in vendor/plugins/active_rbac

Too many login generators?
there is a blog about it
http://www.realityforge.org/articles/2005/11/12/aaa_in_rails
There are so many Authentication/Authorization/Auditing generators now,
just like the situation in java''s world, Too many components doing the
samething just make me confusion. Why not add one to rails core lib and
everybody can extend it for their requirement ?

Logging Exceptions
Hi,
I am using Mongrel with my own XmlRpcHandler and I get sporadic "500"
errors from Mongrel. The handler wraps around the xmlrpc/server
module and I am pretty sure that the error is mine and neither in
mongrel or xmlrpc/server.
I catch all exceptions in my xmlrpc/server handler and do not send
out 500 http answers from there. Thus, I expect the problem is in my
handler.

ACTIVE_BRAC engine migration error.
Hello Keegan,
You may already have forgotten about your posting from last month - but I
stumbled across the EXACT same error today, and figured out a way around
it.
The difficulty stems from you running under Windows XP, probably running
InstantRails, right?
I fairly quickly discovered that the reason things were not working
according to the ActiveRBAC Manual was that

User/group/role model question
Hi.
I have an app where "users" can belong in "groups" with certain "roles"
(eg. a user can own a group).
Normally I''d make users has_and_belongs_to_many groups and put a role_id
on the join table. But - a role is really a first class citizen also, so
a model is in order.
The problem with making a "role" model which has_many "users"

Am I misunderstanding "require_dependency"?
Hi
From what I understand about documentation about require_dependency,
this function will work like require but the file will be reloaded on
every request to the server when in development mode.
I have bootstrapped am minimal RoR project with 0.13.1 Rails. I have
created a minimal Controller and hooked up it''s "index" action at the
site root. I have also created a

Conceptual Design Question
Hi All,
I am making a DAM (seems to be the hip thing to do these days). It is
for the company that I work for. We have some really weird domain
rules that have prevented me from just using a simple directory
structure file permission system. I have come up with a solution but I
wanted to run it by you gurus to ensure that I am not recompiling the
wheel here.
Basically the domain rule is:

rendering templates from an engine''s app dir
Hi there,
i have a rails application which use the active_rbac engine for user
and access control.
How can I use the original login, etc. forms which were provided with
the engine as partials in my application? I''ve tried all of the below
mentioned approaches and it seems so that I cannot reach the templates
provided under the [RAILS_HOME]/vendor/plugins/active_rbac/app/views
directory.

fuzzy search
This may be offtopic to Rails, but what are people doing to find records
based on fuzzy string matches? For example, if you wanted to find a
Person with name "David Heinemeier Hansson" but searched using the
string "Dave Hansson".
Currently I am find_by_sql that calls the PostgreSQL function
"levenshtein(string1, string2)" which returns results with a score
