Rails 1.1 and Ruby 1.8.3
I''ve seen that Rails 1.1 is not reliable with Ruby 1.8.2 so you should upgrade to 1.8.4 I''m running ruby 1.8.3. What''s the story with it? Do I need to upgrade before I try Rails 1.1? Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

Rubuntu Live CD for Rails
Friends- I am almost finished with a custom live cd called Rubuntu ;-) This is an ubuntu live cd variant that comes preloaded with ruby and rails developers in mind. I already have it working with all the basics but I was wondering what extras people would like to see on this distro. What editors with what configurations? What other tools do people really like for rails development on a

Mongrel Web Server 0.3.11 -- Edge Rails and Win32Compliant
I don''t think there''s a way to do that other than using a proxy (ISAPI_REWRITE) or just a server-side redirect. Best OS Choice for Rails server?
I am going for a dedicated hosted server for a rails app I am working on, and have a choice from several different operating systems. I excluded windows 2003 from the list because it has been giving RMagick fits for me. The app is Ruby 1.8.4, Rails 1.1.2, mySQL 5.0 The contestants are: Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 Red Hat Enterprise 4.0 Debian CentOS FreeBSD I''m leaning towards Debian,

Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro ??
Hi, I''ve been doing most of my initial playing with rails on a windows system - but wish to switch to a dedicated linux box for this. Are there any particular distro''s to avoid / recommend. I prefer debian for my other stuff, but thought i''d ask before going ahead. :) Cheers -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Compiling xapian on Ubuntu Breezy
It's not hard to compile the normal xapian stuff but if you download svn it can be tricky to compile the complete release. 1) Get swig 1.3.26 or higher from swig.org. The Breezy packages are too old. The rest is only needed for cvssearch. 2) `apt-get install libdb4.1++-dev` 3) Download the recent pstream.h from pstreams.sf.net Replace cvssearch/db/pstream.h and

Limiting the columns loaded from a legacy db
I''m setting up a new Rails project that is a nice front end for a company''s personnel database with a legacy schema. Unfortunately, the table that contains all the standard information (first name, last name, email address) has some 20+ columns, one of which is a BLOB of a picture of the person. Loading all this takes a while, when the application really only needs the

WEBrick hangs with OCI8?
Has anyone experienced "hangs" with the WEBrick/OCI8 combination? The sequence of actions I perform to consistently get WEBrick to hang is: 1. start WEBrick 2. list a table form my Oracle 10g DB 3. startup sqlplus and update a few records in the table 4. go back to my browser and reload the table Here none of the chances I made directly to the table are reflected in the listing.

cran ubuntu repository and ubuntu 12.10
Since upgrading to quantal, I find that synaptic and apt-get cannot read the sources.list file if it includes the previously standard line deb http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/bin/linux/ubuntu/ quantal This line makes apt-get or synaptic give an error message identifying this line as having a syntax error. If "multiverse" is added at the end of the line, the line is parsed, but then

Timzones, UTC, and to_xml()
Does anyone know a good way to hook into the AR to_xml() method to allow for adjusting datetimes to a user''s timezone? Basically I want a user to be able dump all their data before cancelling an account. I store all datetime info as UTC as per the recommendations of Jamis Buck and Scott Barron in the Rails Recipe article "Dealing with Timezones". Come to think of it I bet

Problems installing Rmagick on Ubuntu
I want to install Rmagick on Ubuntu 7.10, but i am getting this error when running gem install rmagick: Can''t install RMagick 2.2.0. You must have ImageMagick 6.3.0 or later. Dear all, I having this problem on my laptop. It was caused by my clumsy attempts to upgrade the system. Illegal char \002? Need to restart Rails to see changes?
Hi all, I''m developing an app on a home Windows computer and using SVN/Capistrano to deploy to a Linux server. I''m encountering some bizarre behavior that I think has something to do with Linux and Windows text file types, but I''m not sure. What''s happening is that, whenever I edit my view files and reload the page in my local browser, I see errors saying
