Combining expressions and objects within labels
Hello all,
I am an R novice and I have a simple question and hope somebody can help
me out.
I need to place several labels in a plot, this labels are some kind of
text and also some objects (which come from some more complicated R
calculations).
In one of this labels I'd like to place a superscript, however I cannot
find a way to place both the expression and the object in the same

dotplot (lattice) with panel.segments and groups
Hi,
The following produces almost exactly what I needed. The problems are
that the 'panel.dotplot' call (commented) generates the error 'Error in
NextMethod("[") : argument "subscripts" is missing, with no default'. The
other problem is that the colors alternate between the levels of the 'site'
variable, rather than 'year'.

text and expressions in labels
All -
I'm a novice at R and I'm having difficulty combining text and an
expression in the same label.
I just trying to get Yield (kg ha-1) and have the -1 as superscript. What
I came up with doesn't work. I'm stuck at trying to concatenate it with
any other regular text.
yield1 = "Yield (kg ha"
yield2 = expression(^-1)
yield3 = ")"

Quadratic curve on a loop
Dear R community, once again I request your generous help on an R issue
I cannot seem to figure out.
I am trying to do some analysis for multiple sites, in my example I am
using only two, but the same will done on many sites. It's just ONE
line, so I hope somebody can give a me a hand by email.
Look at the loop to make the plot x ~ y. If the curve function is
removed from the loop

Getting the R squared value in asymptotic regression model
Please help getting the R squared value in asymptotic regression model
I use the code below
model1<-nls(GN1~SSasymp (nrate,a,b,c), data = data.1 )
and R produced the modell coefficients without the R squared value?

Looking for better fax handling
I am having troubles with sending faxes. I hope someone can help me
work out a better method.
Basically we have a special address that our users can send to. It
winds up on our Asterisk server which runs a Python script that parses
the message for attachments and the phone number from the recipient
address. The attachments are converted to TIFF and stored in a folder
with various information

fonction PLATEAU???
Hello,
I am working on extracting data from sound recording (fee bee song of the black-capped chickadee). I obtained a two column matrix with x=time(s) and y=frequency(khz). The part of the recording that is interesting me is when the frequency is stable. Does somebody ever used a fonction that extract only constant data among a huge list of data (sample= 180000)?
Thanks

quadratic model with plateau
Dear All,
I would like to make a quadratic with a plateau model in R. Is there a
package in R doing this? The bentcableAR package seems won't work.
The link below describes what I am looking for in R exactly:

sequential t-test - replies
[my original message to s-news & r-help is attached ]
No one possessed or knew of any S/R code for the sequential t-test. Also
it doesn't appear in the SAS index.
One or two suggested obtaining the S+ seqtrial software which may (or may
not) cover this, but this seemed to be a bit of a "hammer to crack a nut".
I have written a function based on the treatment in Wetheril

HI,
Using

One possible problem is that:

optimize() stuck in local plateau ?
Hi all,
Consider the following function:
####
my.func = function(x){
y=ifelse(x>-.5,0,ifelse(x< -.8,abs(x)/2,abs(x)))
print(c(x,y)) #print what was tested and what the result is
return(y)
}
curve(my.func,from=-1,1)
####
When I attempt to find the maximum of this function, which should be
-.8, I find that optimize gets stuck in the plateau area and doesn't
bother testing the

FWIW - share name length limit
I've just discovered a limitation in share name lengths. It may be in the
docs, but I didn't see it and it's not mentioned in the Frisch book on NT
admin.
I tried in my smb.conf to create a share called "public_ftp_files". The
share was created OK, but when I looked for it with the NT4 (sp4) Network
Neighborhood, the name had been truncated to "public_ftp_fi" (13

Configuration questions: 1.9.18p10
I've got 1.9.18p10 up and running happily on a Solaris 2.4 box. I have got
the configuration set so that from my own PC (running NT4, sp4) on the same
subnet, I can login with no problems. Running smbclient on the Unix box
also confirms that I can use other user ID's also.
Problem 1: other users do not seem to be able to login.
What I think are the relevant sections of the config file
