Text cutoff in legends
Dear r-help
If I display plots on the X11 device, the legends looks fine. But if
make an EPS, the longer entry in the legend is cutoff (and also in the
.pdf I do from the .eps)
Can you give me a hint and tell me what I do wrong, please ?

plotting multiple lines on single graph ggplot2
Hello everyone
I have some data of the following type.
100 200 300 400 500
1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5
600 700 800 900 1000
1.5 1.7 1.9 2.0 2.4
With plot() and points functions I can plot these 4 lines of data. But
I dont know how to do it with qplot or ggplot functions. The scenario
is something like this: the hundreds should appear on x-axis and the
fractional values of y axis.
Thanks alot.

Masking oceans using polypath
Hi R-help
I am trying to mask the ocean from an image plot I have made.
Here is some example code:
library(mapdata)
image(x=110:155, y =-40:-10, z = outer(1:45, 1:30, "+"),
xlab = "lon", ylab = "lat")
outline <- map("worldHires", plot=FALSE) # returns a list of x/y coords
xrange <- range(outline$x, na.rm=TRUE) # get bounding box

help to use ppp in spatial analysis
Hi,
i am using spatstat package for spatial data analysis and now i have a problem to create a point pattern. The points are in file "points.txt" (first column for Latitude and second column for Longitude ) and I imported them and separated each columns in two arrays x and y. If I plots x and y ( e.g plot(x,y) ) the result appears in square area without problems and the scale is

plotting with an its object
Dear R People:
I have an its object. The original its is the Dow Jones Industrial average
from March 23, 1990 to March 23, 2000. I did the following;
dj1 = original series
>dj2 <- log(dj1)
>ddj2 <- diff(dj2)
>
Ok so far.
Now I would like to plot this series with a certain y limit:
>min(ddj2)
[1] -0.07454905
>max(ddj2)
[1] 0.04860535
>plot(ddj2,ylim=c(-0.1,0.1))

heavy graphs
Dear R community, I am creating large graphs with hundreds of
thousands of datapoints. My usual way for output was pdf, but now I am
getting file sizes of >30Mb that do not open well (or at all) in Adobe. Is
there a way to reduce the resolution or get rid of overlaying datapoints?
Any other idea is also warmly welcome!
Thank you and wishing you a good day!
Georg.

Legend problem in line charts
Hi all,
Small problem in generating the line charts.
Question: Legend for the first graph is coming wrong., for second graph correctly. Please fix the legend postion at the down of graph.
Plesae give me the solution.

Combined plot: Scatter + density plot
Hi,
in order to save space for a publication, it would be nice to have a
combined scatter and density plot similar to what is shows on
http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=78
I wonder if anybody perhaps has already developed code for this and is
willing to share. This is the reproducible code for the histogram

asking about contour plot with R
I'm working in Rosario, Argentina, trying to plot some contours.
I found the function "draw.contour" created by James Forester at
R-bloggers. If you take a look at that function you'll see it's very
useful!
But I have a problem with it and James is trying to help me (but also
asked me to seek for more help) I hope you can help me (don't worry if you
can't):

windows device transparency issue
I read in a thread in r-help today that the windows device in 2.6 supports
transparency, so I tried an example and had some issues. The density plots
should be filled with transparent color in the following example (similar to
the points), however the color is "fully" transparent. This works in the
Cairo device, but not in the windows device.
Thanks,

the proper way to use panel functions in lattice package?
Hi,
I was trying to stack a topographic map readed in from esri shapefile with a
contour map and a vector map. However, the plotMap(maptools) and
contourplot(lattice) do not seem to work well on top of each other. Here is
part of my code.

yrange<-range(2685000:2810000)
basemap <- read.shape("Twn25_town_dxf_Polygon.shp")

incomplete final line found on <name of my sourced function file>
Dear R-ers,
I hope there is a really simple solution to my problem.
I've written a function that I saved in an .r file. I source this file
in my code. For a while it worked fine. But then when I run the line:
source("F mylineplot.r")
I started getting a warning:
In readLines(file) : incomplete final line found on 'F mylineplot.r'
I have no idea why - I tried to check and

This I can do by the standard spatstat prodcedure via owin. I then try to

Hi,
i am working with large data frames with many dependend variables. I
want to write some functions that will allow me to quickly select

factor columns, possibly selecting rows according to factor conditions.
In order to do this in a nice function, i need to understand how to work

indicating significant differences in boxplots
Hi all!
Writing a paper using a lot of boxplots I was asked to mark the
significant differences between plotted groups using "stars on
top".
These stars are found freqeuntly in medical papers and printed
above boxplots when there is a significant difference (usually using a
bar to indicate which groups are meant if there are more then two in a
plot).
I was able to calculate whatever

contour( ..., method='edge') incompatible with xlim & ylim
Hello,
A colleague of mine in our oceanography lab has pointed out a slightly
annoying imperfection with the contour plotting function. It appears
that the 'edge' option for the 'method' parameter doesn't work very
well (or at all?) when xlim and ylim are also set.
The following code should recreate and demonstrate the problem:

How to plot several graphs in a single 2-D figure?
Hi, R-listers
I tried to plot several graphs in a sigle x-y coordinate settings, like the
following:
|(y) s

| ***** s
| sssssssssssssssssss
|_______________________________(x)
where "*" and "s" denote two diffrent plots.
However, when I used
plot(data1); % data1 is the data points of "*"
