Coercing a list to integer?
Dear group, I am nearly beside myself. After an entire night spent on a niggling little detail, I am no closer to to the truth. I loaded an Excel file in .csv form into R. It apparentely loads as a list, but not the kind of list you can use. Oh no, it converts into a list that cannot be converted into an integer, numeric, or vector, only a matrix, whihc is useless without integers.

Rcmd SHLIB in rw1031 (R for Win)
Thanks for the answers on readme.packages. I have installed Rw1031 from SetupR.exe including the option for compiling source files and, following directions in www.stats.ox.ac.ul/pub/Rtools, have installed: -tools.zip -Perl (Active Perl) -mingw-1.1.tar.gz -copied sh.exe to c:\bin\sh.exe After Perl installation, its directory is added to my path. I have also added the directory where the R

using integrate with optimize nested in the integration
Hi guys im having a problem getting R to numerically integrate for some function, say f(bhat)*optimize(G(bhat)), over bhat. Where id like to integrate this over some finite range, so that here as we integrate over bhat optimize would return a different optimum. For instance consider this simple example for which I cannot get R to return the desired result: f <- function(bhat) exp(bhat) g

Quantile regression: Discrepencies Between optimizer and rq()
Hello Everyone, I'm currently learning about quantile regressions. I've been using an optimizer to compare with the rq() command for quantile regression. When I run the code, the results show that my coefficients are consistent with rq(), but the intercept term can vary by a lot. I don't think my optimizer code is wrong and suspects it has something to do with the starting

library() help for Windows
Dear R users, I have just upgraded R v1.5.0 to v1.6.1 for Windows but have trouble loading my library of R only functions (no C calls). After examining the "library" script this difference was found: (v1.5.0) which.lib.loc <- dirname(pkgpath) descfile <- system.file("DESCRIPTION", package = package, lib.loc = which.lib.loc) if

Problem : these packages don't seem to work : "Error in testRversion(descfields) : This package has not been installed properly See the Note in ?library" (with netCDF package) Does anybody have the same problems with these packages ? Is there any

glm gives t test sometimes, z test others. Why?
I just ran example(glm) and happened to notice that models based on the Gamma distribution gives a t test, while the Poisson models give a z test. Why? Both are b/s.e., aren't they? I can't find documentation supporting the claim that the distribution is more like t in one case than another, except in the Gaussian case (where it really is t). Aren't all of the others approximations

[PATCH 05/27] xen, cpu hotplug: Don't call cpu_bringup() in xen_play_dead()
xen_play_dead calls cpu_bringup() which looks weird, because xen_play_dead() is invoked in the cpu down path, whereas cpu_bringup() (as the name suggests) is useful in the cpu bringup path. Getting rid of xen_play_dead()'s dependency on cpu_bringup() helps in hooking on to the generic SMP booting framework. Also remove the extra call to preempt_enable() added by commit 41bd956 (xen/smp: Fix

R 1.6 Gui for Windows
I upgraded to R Gui 1.6 this morning and I can't seem to get it to accept my new startup directory. R 1.51 will accept "F:\_ben\bls\gen1\results\bls\analysis" as the start in directory for the R Gui shortcut, but R 1.6 will not. R 1.6 will accept "F:\_ben\bls\gen1\results\bls". It seems to have trouble when I add "\analysis." R still loads fine but I get the

Installing RMySQL on Windows XP for R 1.9.1
Hi, I'm thankful for any help on installing RMySQL on Windows XP for R 1.9.1 The thread http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/04/01/1021.html already tried to discuss the matter. It concludes that Windows Sources for Packages are alike the Linux ones. So I extracted the files from the RMySQL_*.tar.gz from http://stat.bell-labs.com/RS-DBI/download/index.html and stuffed them into a zip-file

Anyway I I downloaded the *tar.gz file of the package for R and the converted it in a *zip file. Apparently the installation process was ok, but when loading it I got the following error: Error in

That works fine. The next step is to call the library(RwinEdt) and this does'nt work out ... the meesages i get are: >
