Format Data Issue??
R Users,
I am new to R and have tried to figure out how to automate this
process instead of using excel. I have read in this dataframe into r
with read.table. I need to reshape the data from the first table into
the format of the second table.

Suppress legend in plotting groupedData
Dear All,
I would be grateful if you can tell how can I suppress the legend (automatically created) when I plot a groupedData.
suppose that I have data farme df_0 which contains the following columns: ID represents the clusters, t represents time of observation, Y: the variable of interest and X a binary covariate. Then:
df_1 <- groupedData(Y ~ t | ID)
plot(df_1,

factor with numeric names
Hi all,
I have a pretty basic question about categorical variables but I can't
seem to be able to find answer so I am hoping someone here can help. I
found that if the factor names are all in numbers, fitting the model
in lm would return labels that are not very recognizable.
# Example: let's just assume that we want to fit this model
fit <- lm(height ~ age + Seed,

Warning calling par
Hi. I have a function that works well under R 1.7.1 But under 1.8.0 and 1.8.1 I get:Warning message:

And it doesnt plot
The function is:

Problem comparing Akaike's AIC - nlme package
Hello,
I am comparing models made with nlme functions and non-nlme functions, based
on Akaike's AIC. The AIC values I get for exactly the same model formulation
--for example a linear model with no random effects fit with gls and lm,
respectively-- do not fit, although the values of the four model parameters
are exactly the same. For example:
m1 <- gls(height ~ age, data = Loblolly)

sourcing a file with the plot.lme() function
I ran into a problem trying to make a plot from a file that's read using
source. Basically, I have the following code in a file "plot.R" :
library(nlme)
data(Loblolly)
fm1 <- nlme(height ~ SSasymp(age, Asym, R0, lrc),
data = Loblolly,
fixed = Asym + R0 + lrc ~ 1,
random = Asym ~ 1,
start = c(Asym = 103, R0 = -8.5, lrc = -3.3))

R-beta: Latex and R
Hello R users,
This question might be already discussed before, I apologize
if it is the case.
Simple... how can I do to include a figure in a latex document.
As I have already done in Splus, I tried this:
\begin{figure}
\special{psfile=gauss.ps .......}
\end{figure}
but it didn't work. Any help?
Thank you in advance.
PS: I let down the Mac and the MS Window platforms and I am back

postscript preview
gday R friends,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some graphics issues please.
I'm processing R in batch on redhat6.2 with some graphics to be imported
into msword on NT. For scaling within my doco I want some vector type
graphics. win.metafile doesn't seem to be supported on redhat which gives
me postscript. postscript is ideal but doesn't contain a preview so I

syntax of nlme
Hello,
How do I specify the formula and random effects without a startup object
? I thought it would be a mixture of nls and lme.
after trying very hard, I ask for help on using nlme.
Can someone hint me to some examples?
I constructed a try using the example from nls:
#variables are density, conc and Run
#all works fine with nls
DNase1 <- subset(DNase, Run == 1 )
fm2DNase1 <- nls(

Problem with pairs() in nlme
Dear r-helpers,
After successfully running
require(nlme)
vfr.lmL <- lmList(
estimate ~ (slant + respType + visField + hand)^2 | subject, vfr
)
pairs(vfr.lmL, id = 0.01, adj = -0.5) # Pinheiro & Bates (p. 141)
produces the following error:
Error in sprintf(gettext(fmt, domain = domain), ...) :

Any guesses as to what I may have done wrong?

nlsList (nlme) error
Hi All.
I'm trying to run nlsList an getting an error that makes no sense to
me. I have accuracy and reaction time data over many trials for each
person (id)
When I use nlsList code that is virtually identical to the example in
the doc file I get the following error. I've tried everything I could
think of and can't get around it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

bitmap copies of plots
Michael Lapsley was suggesting on R-help direct copies to gif/png/jpeg.
The following seems to do a sensible job for me of copying the current
device to any bitmap format supported by gs. The manipulation is needed
to work around assumptions made by postscript(), and I think better fixed
in postscript() (but not a couple of days before a release).

se puede utilizar el siguiente código, pero hay un problema y causa

Plot grouped data: How to change x-axis? (nlme)
Hallo!
GENERAL QUESTION:
I'm trying to change the tick marks of the x-axis in a
grouped data plot (nlme).
CONCRETE EXAMPLE:
In the example (see below) I want the x-axis to have
tick marks at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24. How can I do this?
WHAT I TRIED
I tried "normal" methods like axis(...) but this does
not work with this plot. And I also tried xlim=c(0,24)
but the ticks are unchanged and

(no subject)
can you recommend a good manual for R that starts with a data set and gives
demonstrations on what can be done using R? I downloadedR Langauage

I'd really like to be able to follow some tutorials using a dataset or many
datasets. The datasets I have available on R are

splitting and reorganising a data.frame
Hey,
i have a question about how to reorganize a data frame in the easiest way.
my example: what would be the easiest way to bring a data.frame such like this:
----
nr height age Seed
1 1 4.51 3 301
2 15 10.89 5 301
3 29 28.72 10 301
4 43 41.74 15 301
5 57 52.70 20 301
6 71 60.92 25 301
7 2 4.55 3 303
8 16 10.92 5 303
