postscript preview
gday R friends,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some graphics issues please.
I'm processing R in batch on redhat6.2 with some graphics to be imported
into msword on NT. For scaling within my doco I want some vector type
graphics. win.metafile doesn't seem to be supported on redhat which gives
me postscript. postscript is ideal but doesn't contain a preview so I

win.metafile() problem -- possible bug?
As a followup to a previous posting regarding the win.metafile()
function, I've been having some problems as well. In my case, I've been
converting some scripts from S-SPLUS to R that create graphs in order to
take advantage of R's plotmath capabilities.
In the sample code shown below, the axis labels display the units for
the data. In particular, the units for the y axis are

Clients disconnecting and msword problem.
I've got a lot of this in my /var/log/messages :
nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:find_domain_master_name_query_fail(351)
the problem is that sometimes accessing to server from windows client
the mapped drive disappear to return in a second or two. I've got
another strange problem. Opening a word file on the server and trying to
save, MSword tell me that "the disk is full" and

file command returns incorrect MIME type?
Here's the problem:
[ben at kepler tmp]# file -i presentation.ppt
presentation.ppt: application/msword
I see lots of references to this problem, (EG: IMP, PHP bug, etc) all of which
conclude, in various forms, "the problem is in your /usr/share/magic.mime, go
away". But nowhere (that I've been able to find) is there actually a solution

I notice that saving a file from the menu bar in the graph window to

to be avoided?
I know I can save the graph with postscript() in the script, or cut and

Installing MSWord SETUP.INI is missing or invalid
Hi,
I'm trying to install Microsoft Word 2002 on Wine, version 1.1.0, running on ubuntu hardy heron, from a dvd called Microsoft Works Suite 2004 (German) that came bundled with my computer, and I've run into some kind of endless loop.
This is what happens:
- I d-click setup.exe on the dvd, wine starts and the setup menu is shown.

copy installed IE6 and MSWord to another machine
Is there a way to simply copy all the Windows software I installed on
one machine to another machine?
At this time it's just IE6 and MSWord but there may be more Windows
software installed in the future...

attachment_fu content_type problem
Hi all....
Admittedly I''m new to Rails and trying to find my way but I''m having
an issue with uploading documents with attachment_fu.
I have a form where I''m uploading multiple attachments (using AJAX to
add file_filed_tags). That seems to work pretty well. The problem is
I can''t seem to get the content_type to work as I would expect. For
example, if I use

r under linux: creating high quality bmp's for win users
Hi
I produce graphics with R under linux, but my collaborators often use
windows and cannot import eps pics e.g. in msword
what is the standard way to get e.g. bmp's with the same quality as eps.
going the way: creating eps, convert eps2bmp using 'convert' doesn't
yield good enough bmp's
thanks for a short hint

Installing Wine1.2.2 on Mint9
Last year I installed Wine1.1.42 on Mint9 to run MSOffice2000. But MSWord wouldn't work--it would freeze, give error msg, then close.
Now I'd like to try again with Wine1.2.2. But not being very tech-savvy, may I ask:
Do I need to do anything to prepare for installation of Wine1.2.2? Such as uninstall previous Wine, uninstall MSOffice2000, or anything else?
Or can I just install

Problem SAVING and LOADING documents in Crossoffice Wine Word97
Dear friends:
I am using PCLINUXOS version .92.
My problem, simply put, is that I cannot SAVE or LOAD documents in
MSWord97 using the older Codeweavers Crossover Office Wine 1.3.5.
Thinking the problem might be resolved in the latest Crossover Office 5,
I downloaded the Tryout version but the same problem occurs (i.e. at
least for me) in this latest version. In fact, it wouldn't even

badly mangled names from certain old apps
I just took on a new client who is having a curious problem with mangled
names. Here's the history as I understand it:
Originally they were on an NT server and there was no issue.
My predecessor moved them to a samba server running on gentwo. I do not know
what version of samba or how he moved the data, but when he did so, any files
and folders with more than 8 characters started

A chinese R-info page and a question
Dear R community,
I wrote and someone else helped me type a 5-page R-info in Chinese,
covering the most basic information on how to get and install
and start using R on Wintel PC.
This could serve those not fluent in/intimidated by
English but want to start using R.
(I met a lot of those in China)
