Ordinal data - Regression Trees & Proportional Odds
I have a data set w/ an ordinal response taking on one of 10 categories. I am considering using polr to fit a cumulative logits model. I previously fit the model in SAS (using proc logistic) which provides a test for the proportional odds assumption (p < 0.001 for the test). Are there simple diagnostic plots that can be used to look at the validity of this assumption and possibly help w/

Regression models w/ splines
Hi - I am fitting various Cox PH models with spline predictors. After fitting the model, I would like to use termplot() to examine the functional form of the fitted model (e.g., to obtain a plot of the relative risk (or log r.r.) versus the predictors). When there is only 1 predictor in the model, termplot returns a "?". In this case, I have not been able to figure out how to create

Extended Mantel-Haenszel Tests
Has anyone written R code for extended Mantel-Haenszel Tests- as described in Section 8.4.5 (eq. 8.18) of Agresti's book "Categorical Data Analysis"? In other words, I would like to use column scores to test for a location shift for different groups as defined by the row variable in a set of rxs tables. In addition, I would like to use row and column scores to test for a linear

Help w/ termplot & predict.coxph/ns
I am fitting a cox PH model w/ 2 predictors, x1 = 0/1 treatment variable and x2=continuous variable. I am using natural splines (ns) to model the effect of x2. I would like to examine the estimated effect of x2 on the hazard. I have tried various approaches (below; let model.fit= fitted model using coxph in survival library): 1. The simplest method appears to be using termplot(model.fit).

density estimation in two dimensions
Hello, I am a newbie to R and the subject of density estimation in two dimensions or more. I would like to have some advice concerning a comparison between the R packages for density estimation in bivariate or higher order problems; I mean explicitly the packages: 1) ash 2) KernSmooth 3) locfit 4) sm. My specific problem now is having a set of numerical pairs (x_i, y_i), arising from a

How to get the datapoints of an density estimation with locfit?
Hello!!! I'm just a beginner of R. I work with locfit to get the density from an numeric vector. It looks good when I plot the graph, but I need the output data of locfit. For example I need somthing like that (only integer values for the input): numeric vector (input of locfit) density (output of locfit) 1 0.05.... 2 0.04.. 3 0.01 ... Thank you for your help and your time.

3D density estimation
I am trying to carry out density estimation for three dimensions (with anywhere between a few hundred and ~8000 data points). Which leads me to ask: a) is there any equivalent to kde2d (in MASS) or bkde2D (in KernSmooth) out there for three dimensions? b) if not, my skills only seem to extend as far as writing a function which measures density as the number of data points falling within a

Kernel Density estimation - locfit package
Hello there, I am presently using the locfit package in "R" and would appreciate some help here. Could anyone tell me tell me how I can obtain the various components (x and y values)of the density estimation after using the "R" command "locfit"? For example, with the command "fhat<-density(somename)" I can obtain the x and y values by simply calling

Density Estimation
Hallo I am trying to use the package LocFit to follow the example given in an Introductory note of C Loader concerning density estimation. It involves the "geyser" dataset (107 observations on durations, inlc in the package). I have tried the following (using the latest version of R): fit.of <- locfit(~geyser,flim=c(1,6),alpha=c(0.15,0.9)) plot(fit.of,get.data=T,mpv=200) This

How to get the datapoints of an density estimationwithlocfit?
Hello!! At first thank you all for your suggestions and your help. But I would like to get another group of datas from the density estimation. I don't know if these information are provided by locfit or I should use an other function like plot(). Description: Each number between 1 and 100 (only integer) for example should have only one density value. But I also would like to have the density

The Claw Density and LOCFIT
I am trying to reproduce Figure 10.5 of Loader's book: Local Regression and Likelihood. The code provided in the book does not seem to work. I have managed (a while ago) to get the accompanied R-code for the figures in the book (file called lffigs.R) from somewhere - cannot find it on the web anymore. The code in the .R script file does not work either. Could anybody please direct me in

how do I write Rd file for this?
Dear R-devel, I'm working on Prof. Loader's new version of locfit to try to get it pass R CMD check. I'm almost there, but I have a problem with some Rd files that I hope some one can help me resolve. Here's an example: In the package there's a function called locfit.censor(). This function can be used in a few different ways: locfit.censor(x, y, cens, ...)

Bounded Density Estimation
Hello: I have been using R and the locfit package for Unix/Linux for a little while. However, I have had some trouble, as I am trying to do density estimation for bounded independent variables. There is some discussion in the density estimation book by Azzalini, but none in the book by C Loader (creator of locfit). Also, the variables that I am working on are bounded on both sides, not just

locfit: max number of predictors?

Fwd: User defined panel functions in lattice
Hi ilai Thank you for your suggestions. I do not know what happened yesterday I must have omitted a few changes out in going from R to email and apologies for the double posting - I had troubles sending it as my ISP gave a message of not being connected for email but was for the web I was trying to get panel.Locfit to work in a number of situations. 1. But when i am doing one year forecast(single) this code is giving following error... "Warning message: 'newdata' had 1 rows but variable(s) found have 24

GAM with Locfit components
Hi, I?m trying to combine the Locfit Package with the Mgcv package (to use Generalized Additive Models with Locfit components). I read the book written by Clive Loader where it?s said that, for the S language, you just have to "load" the locfit package using the command : Library(locfit, first="T") in order to use locfit components in an additive model. But I can?t. I guess

R-beta: locfit -> CRAN
The locfit library is now available through CRAN, in the Contributed R Code directory. Locfit fits local regression, likelihood and density estimation models, in the spirit of loess but with many additional features. To install, unpack the locfit_19980309.tar.gz file, and R INSTALL locfit Most of the functionality and examples on my home page http://cm.bell-labs.com/stat/project/locfit/ should

Contour Plots
Hello all. I'm confused a bit about contour plots. After reading the help at "?contour", it seems as though the contour plot is for 3D plots (x,y, and z). My data is in the form of grid coordinates (x,y), and I want to see a contour plot of the data so that I can tell where most observations lie. My question is simple but still evasive. Say my data is called places. One column
