win.metafile() problem -- possible bug?
As a followup to a previous posting regarding the win.metafile()
function, I've been having some problems as well. In my case, I've been
converting some scripts from S-SPLUS to R that create graphs in order to
take advantage of R's plotmath capabilities.
In the sample code shown below, the axis labels display the units for
the data. In particular, the units for the y axis are

Please be civil, guys. Different engineers have different skill
levels, so what. If someone asks for some help with the reference
implementation the least we can do is point them in a useful
direction. If

Problems with Speex Resamplers
How much latency are we talking about? It seems that this issue cannot be
easily pinpointed, but if it turns out to be related to the Speex Resampler
let me know and I will put it on my task list.

[LLVMdev] Architecture Dependency of LLVM bitcode (was Re: compile linux kernel)

The issues with architecture dependency are far broader than byte order.
LLVM in its current form is simply not intended to be machine neutral.
Quite the contrary: it is heavily machine dependent!

R1.8.0 and virtual PC (PR#4708)
Dear Sir/Madam
First, I should tell that I'm using virtual PC "w2k" in a mac osx 10.2.
The problem: I recently downloaded the windows version 1.8.0. I found
the following problem with the instruction plot.
E.g., if I type the following instructions, I got the following error

Saving Iterative Components
Dear All,
I am trying to iterate an iterative process (i know R is not the best place
for so much looping but i have to so tough!) and store the resulting data
from each iteration to then be graphed. In simple form the script looks like
this
for(i in tracks)
{
a <- (subset(data, data$Id==i))
result.dataset <- function(a, other.arguements)

Can I monitor the iterative/convergence process while using Optim or MaxLik?
Hi R-helpers,
Is it possible that I have the estimates from each step/iteration shown on
the computer screen in order to monitor the process while I am using Optim
or MaxLik?
Thanks for your help.

[LLVMdev] Using LLVM to compile Objective-C on an Xbox 360
This is certainly an option... but keeping up an LLVM backend for the 360 seems like a bit much work. Using Clang's rewriter requires no real low-level maintenance, just creating and maintaining a C library for support functions emitted by the compiler (e.g. objc_msgSend).
It seems to create a backend for LLVM targeting the 360 I wouldn't need to create something that outputs XEX's

Iterative process for reading in text files
Hello
Instead of reading in group1.txt I want to read in groups1 for the first iteration of i, then groups2 for the second and so on. Obviously I can't use groups(i) but assume there is a way to do this.
group<-read.table("C:/Data/April 2005/group1.txt",header=T)

iterative variable names
Hi,
I'm trying to assign iterative names to variable, but all my attempts have
failed. I have a loop, and for every iteration, I need to create a variable,
and I'd like to name them iteratively, such as:
for(i in 1:10)
{
x_i <- c(values)
}
I need it to return ten variables: x_1, x_2, ..., x_10
How can I do it?
Thank you very much!

[LLVMdev] Visual C++ 2008 Build from trunk
I'm trying to build the sources from the svn trunk using VC2008, and I'm
running into some problems. First, I have no idea what the configure project
is for, and it fails with a manifest related error (the project lacks any
.c* files anyway). This causes an avalanche of problems, initiated by
TableGen not being able to build. Has anyone been successful in getting the
LLVM libs to build

Save parameters from optim during iteration procedure
Dear R-users,
I am going to try to be as clearer as possible, showing also an example.
1) I have a function (in my real case it's much more complex)
2) I use "optim" to minimize
3) I want to use as method L-BFGS-B for several reasons
4) I know I could use "trace=6" (in "control") in order to see "live"
the procedure
5) I would like to see separately the

Hi,
Here's a patch that stops allocation failures during
resampler init from segfaulting, now they fail gracefully and report the
error through the error code parameter

Current state of support for BUGS access for Linux users?
Greetings:
I'm going to encourage some students to try Bayesian ideas for
hierarchical models.
I want to run the WinBUGS and R examples in Tony Lancaster's An
Introduction to Modern Bayesian Econometrics. That features MS
Windows and "bugs" from R2WinBUGS.
Today, I want to ask how people are doing this in Linux? I have found
a plethora of possibilities, some of which are not

R2winBUGS & WinBUGS gui
I am trying to figure out if it is possible to run winBUGS from within
R, using R2winBUGS, without having winBUGS spawn any windows (basically
- 'true' batch - no GUI actions at all). The reason being I have a
machine which I (and several others) ssh/telnet into, and would like to
run winBUGS without having to mount a virtual desktop of any kind.
I've looked through the r2winBUGS

Problem with nested for-loop
Hello,
I'm working on a problem using nested for-loops and I don't know if it's a
problem with the order of the loops or something within the loop so any
help with the problem would be appreciated. To briefly set up the problem.
I have 259 trees (from 11 different species, of unequal count for each
species) of which I am trying to predict biomass. For each tree species I
have 10000
