Resistant Local Regression ???
Dear R-users & developers, i'd like to know your opinion on the following suggestion. In short: Wouldn't it be possible to combine the properties of local regression (loess) and resistant regression (lqs) in order to cope with fitting of partially continuous data? I think the lqs-fitting could detect and eliminate the 2 outliers but perserve the discontinuity at t1 in case of the

methods on missing data
Hello everybody! I have 2 >issues< concerning methods applied to missing data. I think they're bugs, but who knows. 1. var(NA) returns Error in var(NA) : missing observations in cov/cor instead of NA. I expanded the summary-function to my.summary including SDev, in order to use it with tapply, which crashes in case of groups with no valid data. 2. is a similar problem. I use

classification by nls and anova
Dear R-users, I'd appreciate your statistical opinion on the following problem. I'm fitting the four parameter logistic model [f(x) = a + (b - a)/(1 + exp((c - x)*d))] to assay data. We have a lot of samples to fit and my aim is to classify these samples into following groups: 1. no interrelation all results about =~ 0 too low concentration 2. only full

once more: methods on missing data
Thanks for replies, but i was not precise enough. The problem is not evaluating statistics on data with NA values. The problem is evaluation of statistics on data with length = 0. To make the problem more clear this is what i tried: This works fine: tapply(as.numeric(c(NA,2)), as.factor(c("a","b")), summary) But i need SDev, aswell, so i copied summary.default to

Import of Access data via RODBC changes column name ("NO" to "Expr1014") and the content of the column
Dear all, I have some problems with importing data from an Access data base via RODBC to R. The data base contains several tables, which all are imported consecutively. One table has a column with column name "NO". If I run the code attached on the bottom of the mail I get no complain, but the column name (name of the respective vector of the data.frame) is "Expr1014" instead

Instiki @ O''Reilly ETech 2005
Hi all, Sorry if I should be posting this elsewhere--I couldn''t find an Instiki specific mailing list, but the Instiki site is down. I wanted to mention that my friend Tim Lauer and I are going to be doing a short "high order bit" talk at the O''Reilly Emerging Technologies conference, describing a particular use of Instiki which we came up with:

Can R do rts (Regular Time Series) like S-Plus?
Dear readers, S-Plus have a rts function (Regular Time Series), which is used like so: fveks<-read.csv('http://louise.hoffman.googlepages.com/veks.csv',header=TRUE,sep=',') attach(fveks) acf(ts.intersect(rts(HC.f),rts(Ta.f),rts(GR.f),rts(W.f))) Warning the csv file is 750kB. Can the same be done in R? Lots of love =) Louise

Snom 360 flickering screen
Hi guys. I just bought and configured a Snom 360 and have noticed that the LCD is constantly flickering at a rate of ~10-15Hz (that's a guess). Either way, it's very distracting. Has anyone else encountered this before? Any solutions? Hosted VM Pause when one node of gluster goes down
Hi Russell, Since I also ran into this when setting up gluster, the solution is to tweak network.ping-timeout to a lower value (default is 42 seconds). If a node goes down and starts timing out, the whole cluster will attempt to block access, including reads, for network.ping-timeout seconds and only let them through after. I set mine to 5 (seconds) because 42 is nowhere near an acceptable wait

Redirecting to another service/server
Hi guys. Without having a FWD account, can Asterisk redirect calls to FWD? For instance, an extension behind Asterisk dials 99751234, and Asterisk says "that starts with 99. let's strip off the 99 and call 751234 at FWD, IE: sip:751234@fwd.pulver.com:5060". Is that possible, or would services such as FWD reject the call since the device making the call (Asterisk) hasn't
