distance in the function kmeans
Hi, I want to know which distance is using in the function kmeans and if we can change this distance. Indeed, in the function pam, we can put a distance matrix in parameter (by the line "pam<-pam(dist(matrixdata),k=7)" ) but we can't do it in the function kmeans, we have to put the matrix of data directly ... Thanks in advance, Nicolas BOUGET

ipac/iptables + mrtg accounting
i''ve installed mrtg to make graphics of the trafic from the interfece throw the snmpd, and the same with ipac witch put iptables accounting rules colect them and store, and gets the output, but the "problem" is that ipac graphics are 3 times smaller that the snmpd. Why??? i did catch all the trafic with ipac so no problem here, and i know that ipac/iptables is at level 3, and

Q: best solution to stop traffic to huge amount of unregistered hosts
Hi perhaps someone else already had the same problem. Problem description: I''m running a class B University network with approx 10k hosts attached. I would now like to stop traffic from and to hosts in my network not already registered in my DNS server. This means I''ve to handle with approx 50k rules|routes. Unhelpful error message when matching hosts in access list [PATCH]
Greetings, As previously reported by me to the Debian bug tracking system: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- An access list in rsyncd.conf may contain hostnames as well as addresses. It may contain several patterns to match against. address_match (in access.c) does this by trying to match hostname and address against each of the patterns until a match is

AW: Question
A small comment: The code of Agnes is written in Fortran. Following book give more details: Kaufman, L. and Rousseeuw, P.J. (1990). _Finding Groups in Data: An Introduction to Cluster Analysis_. Wiley, New York. The 'hclust' function is based an Algorithm contributed to STATLIB by F. Murtagh and the code is written in C. Probably the differences between agnes and hclust causes

basic question
Dear R users, Up to now, I only used precompiled packages. As I am working on vegetation ecology, I would be interested in using a package not stored by CRAN called labdsv_0.9-1.tar.gz and developped by Dave Roberts at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (unfortunately I did not find any corresponding .zip file). Although I tried to follow the proposed guidelines to

What you may need is to compile this package from source. It is explained in one of the R manuals (I can't remember which one though). You can also look at my "R Guide for Windows Users" at http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~kwan022/rinfo.php (Section 5). I'm not sure the exact contents in the labdsv_0.9-1.tar.gz , but in general you can first unpack it with, e.g.: tar zxvf

Agnes and Hclust
Hi, I want to know if there is a difference between the two hierarchical methods Agnes and hclust when there are used with the same method and the same metric on the same data! I ask this question because I executed the following program: hc <- hclust(dist(AGRIINSTTableFinaleCR), "ward") agnes<-agnes(dist(AGRIINSTTableFinaleCR),method="ward") And clusters are not the

different results across versions for glmer/lmer with the quasi-poisson or quasi-binomial families: the lattest version might not be accurate...
Dear R-helpers, this mail is intended to mention a rather trange result and generate potential useful comments on it. I am not aware of another posts on this issue ( RSiteSearch("quasipoisson lmer version dispersion")). MUsing the exemple in the reference of the lmer function (in lme4 library) and turning it into a quasi-poisson or quasi-binomial analysis, we get different results,

optimising a loop
Dear R community, I'm trying to remove a loop from my code but I'm stock and I can't find a good way to do it. Hopefully one of you will have something clever to propose. Here is a simplified example: I have a squared matrix: > nom.plac2 <- c("102", "103", "301", "303","304", "403") > poids2 <- matrix(NA, 6,6,
