acts_as_taggable and auto_complete
I''m using the acts_as_taggable gem (who''s site has gone AWOL apparently) and I''m wanting to make it autocomplete. I, however, am the absolute worst JavaScript person ever, so is there anyone out there that can point me to a tutorial or give some good starting points? Thanks! Focused Specs/Tests in Non-Textmate editors
Hello, I wrote a script that runs a focused spec/test from the filename and line number. I bound this to an external tool in my Idea environment. http://weblog.freeopinion.org/articles/2006/11/04/focused-unit-test-spec-script Brian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Ajax.Updater with evalScripts: true strips curly braces
When I return an html fragment to Ajax.Updater with evalScripts: true set, and there is a script fragment with curly braces in it (a function declaration or an object literal), the curly braces are getting stripped out somehow, and leaving me with invalid JS. I think this is the case because I put an alert in the evalScripts method right before the "return eval(script)" and it had no

Pretty story output for non-Rails project
I''m taking my first fledgling steps driving a new ruby (non-rails) project with BDD. I''ve got a (test) story working. However, when I run the story in TextMate (via command-r), the output is plain text. See: http://skitch.com/georgeanderson/8grg/run-examples How do I get the output to look pretty (formatted)? rspec-1.1.3 OS X 10.5.2 TextMate v1.5.7 (1455) Thanks, /g --

Testing views with Hpricot
assert_tag smells bad. Hpricot smells nice (apricotty!). Testing your views with Hpricot: http://www.lukeredpath.co.uk/index.php/2006/07/07/testing-your-rails- views-with-hpricot/ Big thanks to _why for a great little library! Random routing errors in 1.1.3 with Mongrel
Since upgrading to 1.1.3 on our dev box, we''ve started to see random routing errors with our apps running under Mongrel in production mode. The errors seem to go away after a while but come back everytime we restart the server. This may be a mongrel problem, it may be a rails problem (I''ve posted a bug on the trac) and I was wondering if anybody else had had similar

rails is extremely hard to install
I''m on Mac OSX and I''m about to rip my hair out over how hard it is to install rails. I''ve installed rubygems and am typing "ruby setup.rb" in the command line and get "No such file or directory." I''ve never had to use command lines before so this is alien to me. Can''t they just make installation GUI-based for non-geeks like

verifying best practice

Unobtrusive javascript...what if?
What if...you could produce accessible, unobtrusive javascript, using Rails built-in javascript/prototype helpers, with just one extra line of code in your layout, a plugin, and one small enhancement to the helpers. Something like this: [php] <% form_remote_tag :controller => ''foo'', :action => ''bar'', :unobtrusive => true %> # which produces

Basic question: Where to initialize a flag?
I have found that if I initialize a flag in my controller (under def Initialize), it appears everytime I call a controller action, the flag is set to the initialize value (even though I''m not calling the initialized action). Am I observing this clearly? I don''t think I should initialize a flag in the index file. So where? Specifically, I want to know if this action is a

sudo in switchtower and security
I''m attempting to deploy a rails application using switchtower. My IT guys are refusing to give me sudo for a user changeable script. I really can''t argue with their logic. If I have sudo for a script that I can update, well, I can do most anything I want. They are suggesting I create a cgi that performs the same function. Since the cgi would run as www-data (this is a debian

Naming Convention for Controllers?
Hello! I just read DHH''s presentation pdf. In his examples, he wrote PeopleController instead of PersonController. I''ve been using singular words in controller''s name. Which is more common? Thanks. Sam -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Unobtrusive Javascript for Rails
I made a brief post on here the other day about this and now I can proudly present the initial release of our unobtrusive_javascript plugin for Rails. We''ll be working with Dan Webb of Vivabit to roll in much of the functionality in his own as-yet unreleased unobtrusive_javascript plugin into a single plugin. This is essentially a preview release and probably not suitable for use on a

Convince me to buy TextMate!
I got a Powerbook recently and am debating buying TextMate. I installed the trial and have checked it out, but don''t see what''s so great about it. AFAICS it''s the Ruby and Rails macros for expansion and other stuff that might be it. Other than that, TextMate seems like a pretty basic editor. I currently use PSPad and Editplus, and I could probably get/make macros

Concerns over Rails' handling of tests
Sorry if this comes across as a bunch of disjointed thoughts...I''m just trying to put my thoughts down and I''d like to know what other people''s opinions on the subject are. I''ve been working with Rails for 3 or 4 months now and I''m constantly trying to look at ways of improving my testing techniques, especially when it comes to TDD. I have a few
