managing data and removing lines
Hi,
I am very new to R and I've been trying to work through the R book to gain a
better idea of the code (which is also completely new to me).
Initially I imputed my data from a text file and that seemed to work ok, but
I'm trying to examine linear relationships between gdist and gair, gdist and
gsub, m6dist and m6air, etc.
This didn't work and I think it might have something to do

Merging data tables
Hi all,
I am trying to merge several data sets and end up with a long data
format by date & time so I can run correlations and plots. I am using
Deducer as an R GUI but can just use the R console if easier.
The data sets are weather with wind speed, relative humidity and
temperatures by date and minute and bat activity with date, time, label,
and an activity index number. The bat

Excel can do what R can't?????
Hi there
I thought this would be of particular interest to people using 'optim'
functions and perhaps people involved with R development.
I've been beaten down by R trying to get it to perform an optimization on a
mass-balance model. I've written the same program in excel, and using the
'solver' function, it comes up with an answer for my variables (p, ACT,

ggplot2 graphing multiple lines of data
Some day I may figure out how ggplot2 works.
I am trying to plot 5 columns of data on a graph (similar to a simple matplot)

NA confusion (length question)
Hi folks,
I am running a very simple regression using
mylm <- lm(mass ~ tarsus, na.action=na.exclude)
I would like the use the residuals from this analysis for more
regression but I'm running into a snag when I try
cbind(mylm$residuals, mydata) # where my data is the original data set
The error tells me that it cannot use cbind because the length of
mylm$residuals is

Skyline plots from several trees in newick format
Dear all,
I am trying to create a consensus skyline plot using the "ape"
package(newbie).
I have a nexus file that looks like the one from above containing many
trees. (my_file.trees)

Nonlinear regression aborting due to error
Colleagues,
I am fitting an Emax model using nls. The code is:

How to change row value based on previous row value
Hi,
I would like to fix the data in the following data.frame, and I am

Multiple line plots
Greetings,
I would like to plot three lines on the same figure, and I am lost. There is
an answer to a similar thread… but I tried matplot and it is beyond me. An
example of the data follows:

[pvops-dom0]Let PV ops guest could handle Machine Check trap
Hi, Jeremy and all
This small patch lets pv ops guest handle machine check trap. When non
fatal mce error happens, xen will inject vMCE# to the impacted pv ops guest.
This patch allows pv ops guest could receive machine check trap and enter
its own machine check handler.
Thanks & Regards,
Criping

How to transform matrices to ANOVA input datasets?
Hello, R experts,
I have a list called dataHP which has 30 elements (m1, m2, ..., m30).
Each element is a 7x6 matrix holding yield data from two factors
experimental design, with treatment in column, position in row. For
instance, the element 20 is:
dataHP[[20]]
col1 col2 col3 trt1 trt2 trt3

lme v. aov?
I am trying to understand better an analysis mean RT in various
conditions in a within subjects design with the overall mean RT /
subject as one of the factors. LME seems to be the right way to do
this. using something like m<- lme(rt~ a *b *subjectRT, random=
~1|subject) and then anova(m,type = "marginal"). My understanding is
that lme is an easy interface for dummy coding

Extract Variance Components
Hi,
I'm still having problems putting the variance components of my model in to
a data frame, it is a continuation of this discussion,
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/ANOVA-problem-td4609062.html, but now focussed
on the problem of extracting variance components. I have got my mixed
effects model now

Sorting data from one column with strings
Hello,
I have tried to find this out some other way, but unsuccessful I have to
try this list.
I assume this should be quite simple.
I have a dataset with 4 columns, "Sample_no", "Species", "Nitrogen",
"Carbon" in csv format. In the species column I have many different
species with varying number of obs per species
Eg

Feedback on you manual
Dear Sir/Madam:
Great thanks for R project and you contribution.
I am Liping Liu, a beginner of R. Recently, I use R much. I wish you could
improve the manual by making it search engine friendly.
The "Introduction to R" page is too long. I am often redirected to this page
by goole, but I still can not find the content I need easily.
Could you please make it a structured: one page
