Current state of support for BUGS access for Linux users?
Greetings: I'm going to encourage some students to try Bayesian ideas for hierarchical models. I want to run the WinBUGS and R examples in Tony Lancaster's An Introduction to Modern Bayesian Econometrics. That features MS Windows and "bugs" from R2WinBUGS. Today, I want to ask how people are doing this in Linux? I have found a plethora of possibilities, some of which are not

R2winBUGS & WinBUGS gui
I am trying to figure out if it is possible to run winBUGS from within R, using R2winBUGS, without having winBUGS spawn any windows (basically - 'true' batch - no GUI actions at all). The reason being I have a machine which I (and several others) ssh/telnet into, and would like to run winBUGS without having to mount a virtual desktop of any kind. I've looked through the r2winBUGS

Can WinBUGS run two processes through R at the same time?
Dear all, I want to run two winBugs process through R (by R2WinBUGS package). The first WinBUGS process can successfully perform under R. The error message appears while I put the code to run for the second WinBUGS. The error message: Error in file(file, ifelse(append, "a", "w")) : cannot open the connection In addition: Warning message: In file(file, ifelse(append,

Connecting to winbugs from R
Hi, I'm having trouble running a script within winbugs when calling winbugs from R. Here are a few lines from the winbugs log: display(log) check(C:\DOCUME~1\michael\LOCALS~1\Temp\RtmpjKnHMu\mm_TO_bugs9bc21e.txt) cannot open C:\DOCUME~1\michael\LOCALS~1\Temp\RtmpjKnHMu\mm_TO_bugs9bc21e.txt data(C:/DOCUME~1/michael/LOCALS~1/Temp/RtmpjKnHMu/data.txt) command #Bugs:data cannot be executed (is

Saving WinBugs log file when using bugs()
Hi, I am very new to R and Winbugs. I have been provided with a code that runs Winbugs from R. The code runs 60 different models and I would like to either save the Winbugs log file for each of these or reproduce the WinBugs plots which show convergence over the iterations.I can do this by using Debug=true and saving manually each time but obviously this is very time consuming. Many thanks Ruth

R2winBUGS | option to turn off GUI?
Greetings - I run a multi-pro server box (GNU/Linux), on which I've installed winBUGS under wine. Works fine, and plays nice with r2WinBUGS, provided everything is done through a graphical front-end (either by working from console, or using a virtual desktop via VNC or equivalent). However, I'm wondering if there is a way to use R2winBUGS and winBUGS such that winBUGS does not spawn

BRugs dwwinn.exe error
Hi, I have a strange behaviour of openBUGS and WinBUGS when I start them from R. Version: R: 2.10.1 openBUGS: 3.07 WinBUGS: 1.43 R2WinBUGS: 2.1-16 BRugs: 0.5-3 I have a model and data without initial start values. If I use the stand alone versions of openBUGS and WinBUGS I don't have any problems and I get what I want. If I use function bugs() from R2WinBUGS- resp. BRugs-Library then

error message running R2WinBUGS
*Dear R-user, * I try to run Winbugs from R using bugs function in R2WinBUGS.My model works well in Winbugs except that I can't get DIC. Since I don't need DIC, when I try to run Winbugs from R , I set "DIC=FALSE". My model is as following: model { for (i in 1:N) { for(j in 1 : T ) { x[i, j] ~ dbin(p[i, j],n[i]) #Hier.prior p[i, j] ~ dbeta(alpha[i, j], beta[i, j]) alpha[i, j]

Running R2WinBUGS on Linux using Wine
Hello all (1) My departmental IT guru has installed the latest Wine (0.9.48) on a well maintained Fedora 7 server, so that I can run WinBUGS from R via R2WinBUGS (this seems like the only real option for running BUGS from R on a Linux platform?) (2) WinBUGS seems to run okay, except for the following output errors: === === === fixme:keyboard:RegisterHotKey (0x10024,13,0x00000002,3): stub

The error while using R2WinBUGS
Dear all, I tried to run WinBUGS model in R by using package R2WinBUGS, but I failed because of the massage : cannot calculate DIC for model in log file of WinBUGS14. In fact, the model works in WinBUGS and I can get summaries of the model, such as density, stats..., except DIC , because DIC may not be appropriate in this kind of model due to some reasons(according to the manual of WinBUGS14),

How to connect R and WinBUGS/OpenBUGS/LinBUGS in Linux in Feb. 2009
Hi all, I've managed to get JAGS working on my Ubuntu Hardy Linux with a 32-bit computer and AMD processors using R 2.8.1. JAGS is great. I've read that JAGS is the fastest, but that hasn't been my experience. At any rate, I have more experience with WinBUGS under Windows and would like a version of that working as well. It seems like I've read a lot on the subject and tried a

R2WinBUGS-Windows 7
Dear all, I'm having a slight issue with R2WinBugs.... it cannot detect where WinBUGS is located. Q: How can I change the default path? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Regards Erica I'm using R2WinBUGs (R version 2.21.1) on windows platform (Windows 7). I have downloaded WinBUGS14.exe and patch 1.4.3. As i'm working with Windows 7 (similiar issues to Vista occur),

Errors when saving output from WinBUGS to R

Are they fully identical: WinBUGS and OpenBUGS; R2WinBUGS and R2OpenBUGS
Hello ALL! I am running Linux, Fedora 15 64-bits, and R on it. I need to use WinBUGS and R2WinBUGS, but as far as I read, WinBUGS is closed project, to be continued with/as OpenBUGS. Thus, I have found R2OpenBUGS on OpenBUGS Contributed Code (http://openbugs.info/w/UserContributedCode), not on CRAN. Author(s) states that it is equivalent for R2WinBUGS. I tried briefly, and realized few minor

WinBUGS with R
Dear Users, I am new to both of things, so do not blame me too much... I am busy with semiparametric regression and use WinBUGS to sample posteriors. The code to call Winbugs is as follows: data <- list("y","X","n","m") #My variables inits.beta <- rep(0,K) inits.beta0 <- 0 inits <-

Which BUGS should one use?
Hello ALL! Some times ago I started to learn and play with Bayesian stuffs. Many advice use of WinBUGS for Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampler. However, WinBUGS is discontinued, and now, development is under OpenBUGS. I wasn't lazy, so I installed both and tried out. In more than 90% of cases they give comparable outcome. But in few cases I got substantial differences. Recently, I read nice

Using WinBUGS from R: A Multi-Way Array Problem
Please suggest a way out to the following problem. I have a T by n data matrix (say Y) where coulmns are time series of length T. To do some analysis in WinBUGS I need to construct my data as follows. yy<-rep(Y,k) ## this will be a vector Yk<-array(yy,dim=c(T,n,k)) ## data array Here the definition of dim indices is first index: T rows second index: n columns third index: for kth T by n

Question on default link directory
Hi, I have got a problem with running WinBugs from R. Following WinBugs project recommendations for Vista Microcoft, I installed my Winbugs software at C:\ (not at C:\Program Files). However, when I run the attached code in R, R still looks for Winbugs at C:\Program Files and ends up in numerous error messages. I wonder if it is possible to direct R to C:\WinBUGS14 instead of default link to
