reverse array indexing
Hi,
Suppose I have a multidimensional array:
tmp <- array(1:8, c(2,2,2))
is there a function out there that, given a one-dimensional array index,
will
return the separate indices for each array dimension?
for instance, tmp[8] is equivalent to tmp[2,2,2]. I'd like to derive the
vector (2,2,2)
from the index 8.
thanks,

Re: coding factor replicates
How about this. Its not as 'swish' as Doug's response, but it might be a
little simpler to think about and adapt...

# create a named vector to store the number of occurences of each level

array subsetting of S4 object that inherits from "array"
Hi,
I have an S4 class that inherits from "array" but does not add generic
implementations of the "[" method.
A simplified example is:
setClass("fooarray", contains="array")
If I create a "fooarray" object and subset it with a one-dimensional
index vector, the return value is of class "fooarray". Other variants

"[" operator and indexing ambiguity
Hi,
I am working on writing some S4 classes that represent
multidimensional (brain) image data. I would like these classes to
support standard array indexing. I have been studying the Matrix and
EBImage (http://www.bioconductor.org/packages/1.9/bioc/html/EBImage.html)
packages to see how this is done.
When using objects of the "array" class directly, R distinguishes
between the calls:

trellis plot
Hi,
I'd like to plot 4 groups of data using xyplot and panel.superpose so
that the points are overlayed on a single plot. For each group of data
I'd also like a loess smoothed function (using panel.loess). I have
tried the following:
xyplot(series ~ time | gr, data=etable,
panel = function(x,y, ...) {
panel.superpose(x,y, ...)
panel.loess(x,y,span=.15)

lattice problems under Win2K and R-1.4.0
I'm having problems copying and saving lattice graphs using R-1.4.0 under
Win2k. It seems I've see this alluded to recently in R-help.
If I do the following example:
> data(quakes)
> xyplot(long ~ lat , data = quakes)
And then try to copy or save the graph as either a metafile or bitmap or if
I use any of the bitmap/metafile devices via (for example)

nested versus crossed random effects
Hi all,
I'm trying to test a repeated measures model with random effects using the
nlme library. Suppose I have two within subjects factors A, B both with
two levels. Using aov I can do:
aov.1 <- aov(y ~ A*B + Error(S/(A+B))
following Pinheiro and Bates I can acheive the analagous mixed-effects
model with:
lme.1 <- lme(y~A*B, random=pdBlocked(list(pdIdent(~1),pdIdent(~A-1),

This is a follow-up note to my earlier post under this header, giving my

First, with some trepidation I upgraded my ubuntu distro, and this time
did a full reinstall, so I did not break my system, as I have

Wikipedia plots and tables?
Hello, All:
What facilities exist for plots and tables of data in the
standard MediaWiki software beyond the obvious standards?
The standard MediaWiki tables and graphics capabilities seem to
me to be rather clumsy, and I wonder if I'm missing some available
extensions?
The standard MediaWiki tables are described in a Wikipedia
article on "Help:Table".

convert R plots into annotated web-graphics
Dear all,
I would like to make a large scatter plot created with R available as an interactive web graphic, in combination with additional text-annotations for each data point in the plot. The idea is to present the text-annotations in an HTML-table and inter-link the data points in the plot with their corresponding entries in the table, i.e. when clicking on a data point in the plot, the

svg as a spescial case for image
SVG starts to become more useful in browsers like Firefox, OmniWeb,
Opera and soon Safari. There is a couple problem. Since no browser
support svg embedded with img one need to fall back to html from:
<object data="/path/to/img.svg" type="image/svg+xml"
width="512" height="384">Alt text</object>
Second, one need to write the width

Parsing question, partly comma separated partly underscore separated string
Dear R-list,
I have a partly comma separated partly underscore separated string that I am trying to parse into R.
Furthermore I have a bunch of them, and they are quite long. I have now spent most of my Sunday trying to figure this out and thought I would try the list to see if someone here would be able to get me started.
My data structure looks like this,

Visio vsd/vdx vs. svg
Tom,
I note that you use Visio for your network diagrams. Have you considered
placing SVG source in CVS?
I believe Visio can import/export SVG now. If you''re not using the
newest version, I think the VDXtoSVG project can convert Visio 2002 VDX
files to SVG. If you''re using a version older than that, I doubt an
acceptable solution is achievable.

point size in svg
Hello, All:
????? I'm unable to control the font size in plots to svg.? Consider
the following:
svg('cex-svg.svg')
cex. <- 5
plot(1:2, cex.axis=cex.)
text(1:2, 1:2, c('as', 'DF'),
????????? cex=cex.)
dev.off()
????? When I open this in Gimp 2.10.4, the font size is tiny.? I also
tried:
svg('cex-svg.svg', width=15, height=15, pointsize=24)
cex.

Re: virt-v2v slow when running inside the VM
I eliminated software-bridge( using iperf3 bandwidth/latency on the host
and guest was almost the same) and
disk write(using qemu-img convert src dest file both on the host and
guestvm was comprable) being the issue.
Next I profiled both sshd and qemu-img during the conversion phase using
bpftools (profile and tcptop) and this is what i see.

embed a bitmap by link reference into a SVG image

Images may be included in an SVG by
