SP? Re: Rounding problem R vs Excel
Hi again Sam,
Sorry for not replying sooner. I have been ignoring everything for a
while to work on the AMMP analysis tool and the continuing saga of
migrating the legacy AMMP data. Our consultant has written some
programs that take a VERY long time to run :(
Anyway, I now know Java and a certain amount of JSP.
I hope to be able to get around to this soon. It is all a bit hard

Rounding problem R vs Excel
For numbers ending in 5 Excel always rounds up and I want to reproduce this in R rather than use the round function.
I have tried:
x<-as.integer(x*100+0.5)/100
and
x<-floor(x*100+0.5)/100
However, some values of x cause problems e.g
x<-floor(4.145*100+0.5)/100
4.14
I have tried breaking it down into steps and force the results to 10 significant figures in the following function,

Is it possible to create highly customized report in *.xlsformat by using R/S+?
Your surest bet is to look into S+, not R, since the former does
'integrate' with Microsoft applications. To what extent, I don' know.
This is a desirable feature (IMO) and a reason to use S+ rather then R
(already discussed in different thread).
Try the S+ newsgroup.

alternate rank method
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can point me to a function that will
allow me to do a ranking that treats ties differently than
rank() provides for?
I'd like a method that will assign to the elements of each
tie group the largest rank.
An example:
For the vector 'v', I'd like the method to return 'rv'
v: 1 2 3 3 3 4 5 5 6 7
rv: 1 2 5 5 5 6 8 8 9 10
Thanks,

The function 'wilcox.test' in R and S gives (almost) identical results (see

normality test
Hello,
I am analysing several samples whose sizes are from 9 to 110.
I would like to test their distribution with R,
whether they are normal or not.
I wonder which test for normality from R should I use .
Thank you for help.

Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel problem
Hello,
I've tried to analyze some data with a CMH test. My 3 dimensional contingency
tables are 2x2xN where N is usually between 10 and 100.
The problem is that there may be 2 strata with opposite counts (the 2x2
contigency table for these are reversed), producing opposite odds ratios that
cancle out in the overall statistics. These opposite counts are very
important for my analysis, since

Normality Test on several groups
Hi,
I use ks.test or lillie.test to verify a normal distribution. It's performed
for a group
My users use SigmaStat software and a One Way ANOVA on several groups
In the result page there is a probability value to determine if Normality
test is failed or passed
So, how can i retrieve this probability value on several groups?
Is there another function in R to verify normality on several

wilcoxon-pratt signed rank test in R - drug-effiacy
Hi.
I'm going to introduce the R-package for a group of medical doctors later
this week and is a little confused about there use of a test named
"willcoxon-pratt" for testing if the clinical and biochemical markers has
decreased significantly after the use of some drugs for a group of patients.
Looking into the R-functions I would in R recommand using a matched-pairs

quantile function
I am trying to `cut' a continuous variable into contiguous classes
containing approximately an equal number of observations. I thought
quantile() was the appropriate function to use in order to find the
breakpoints, but I end up with classes of different sizes - see
example below. Does anybody have an explanation for that? And what is
the `recommended' way of computing what I am looking

efficient R code
Last Friday, Gregory Chaitin (http://www.umcs.maine.edu/~chaitin/lm.html)
mentioned that there can be no proof that a given code is the shortest for
a problem, even within a language. Still, the script below, a replacement
of the "TDT", one of the most frequently used tests in genetics
(http://mustat.rockefeller.edu under "downloads") may get close. It

Effects library LSM decimal place errors
G'day,
I'm?calculating LSM for the following model, and am finding that R and
SAS give different answers.
Whilst the error is at the second or third decimal, the percentage
error can be quite large.
I'm using the effects library (Version: 2.0-10) on R?2.11.1 in the
following manner:

Excel TDIST and TINV
Hello all...
I am really new to statistics and I am trying to figure out a way to
apply Chauvenet's criterion using the t-distribution on a set of numbers
in perl. I was unable to find a TDIST and TINV function for perl. I am
getting these functions from Excel. So, I figured that I would install
R and call it from perl, overkill for what I need I know. I am having a
hard time figuring

command. For example I have 7 plots, but instead of arranging them in
the default way

I want them in this order

Could somebody tell me how to do this, please? Thanks so many.
