Can R do rts (Regular Time Series) like S-Plus?
Dear readers,
S-Plus have a rts function (Regular Time Series), which is used like so:
fveks<-read.csv('http://louise.hoffman.googlepages.com/veks.csv',header=TRUE,sep=',')
attach(fveks)
acf(ts.intersect(rts(HC.f),rts(Ta.f),rts(GR.f),rts(W.f)))
Warning the csv file is 750kB.
Can the same be done in R?
Lots of love =)

aggregate.ts (PR#514)
aggregate.ts does not behave in the same way as the equivalent
method aggregate.rts in S-PLUS. In particular it
- changes the start of the time series
- tends to have a length which is 1 shorter
For example:
R> x <- ts(1:10)
R> aggregate(x, nfreq=0.5, FUN=min)
Time Series:
Start = 2
End = 8
Frequency = 0.5
[1] 2 4 6 8
S> x <- rts(1:10)
S> aggregate(x, nf=0.5, fun = min)

I'm unable to produce that error. Which function was being evaluated to produce the error? I don't see

I can't test that at the moment as I don't have the libraries. Perhaps later.

Hi List,
The following code returns an "Error in as.POSIXlt.character(x, tz, ...) : character string is not in a standard unambiguous format"
require(raster)
require(rts)
require(stringi)
r <- raster(ncol=100, nrow=100)
values(r) <- runif(ncell(r))
list(ID=seq(1:24),month=rep(str_pad(1:12, pad = 0,width = 2 , "left"),2),year=sort(rep(2016:2017,12)))->dt

Deleting for() loop in function
Dear UseRs,
I wrote following function in order to solve Data Envelopment Analysis.
Reason for posting is that the function is slow when nrow(dat) is large.
I wonder if other functions could substitute the for() loop in the
code, such as mapply().
Can anybody help to rewrite the dea() function as efficiently as
possible?
The code is as follows:

Plotting several series on one set of axes
Dear All,
I am rather rusty with my R, but I recall being able to do something like
plot(x1,...);plot(x2,add=TRUE,...)
to plot two series on the same axes.
Any suggestions how this may be done will be appreciated.

It works if you use as.Date. But this defeates the purpose for the yearmon notion...
require(raster)
require(rts)
require(stringr)
r <- raster(ncol=100, nrow=100)
values(r) <- runif(ncell(r))
stack(r)->s
r->rs
for(i in 1:23){
rs[]<-r[]*i
addLayer(s,rs)->s
print(nlayers(s))
}

LLVM and heap-allocated thread stacks
In some language implementations, such as the Glasgow Haskell Compiler
(GHC) and the reference implementation of Go, a thread’s stack is
allocated as a data structure on the garbage-collected heap. The
garbage collector is free to move this data structure whenever it is
invoked.
Currently, GHC’s LLVM backend does not use the C stack. However, there
have been discussions about whether using the

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi,
I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.

raster time series statistics
Hi Herry,
This is probably due to a call to strptime (or similar). No, it
doesn't accept %Y-%m as a valid format. Maybe add a constant day to
all the dates as that will work:
dt<-list(ID=seq(1:24),month=rep(formatC(1:12,flag=0,width=2),2),
year=sort(rep(2016:2017,12)))
timelst<-paste(unlist(dt['year']),unlist(dt['month']),"01",sep="-")

tsboot
Fritz,
I have slightly adapted (didn't work before) "tsboot" from the "boot"
library to the current time series conventions of R. The following patch
will do that. I suggest to apply this patch to the file
"boot/R/bootfuns.q" of the "boot" library at CRAN.
