creating chron object aggregates (e.g. sums by day)
What is the recommended/optimal way to perform aggregates on data frames
with chron objects?
Here is an example:

3 07/11/01 1000

6 07/16/01 600

Hi,
I'm trying to connect an E400P card to a Siemens Digital ISDN S2M Module.
(TMS2).
How should I connect these two? Straight or crossed? (receive tip <-> receive
tip or receive tip <-> transmit tip)
Also, I can't seem to figure out how to configure the channels. Does anyone
here have any experience with the Siemens module

Frailty models and omnibus test
This is very possibly not a question on R.
I was under the impression that the argument that gives rise to Fisher's
LSD method in ANOVA works in other situations with three-way comparisons
too, given that formal logic works the same ("if the omnibus test rejects,
only two of the three groups may be equal, and therefore only one hypothesis
can be rejected falsely").
However, when I

[S] uniroot -- doesn't work recursively
Dear Prof Azzalini,
You have an interesting example of recursive use of uniroot().
[re-cited at the end]
However, note that R currently has the same problem as S-plus:
Uniroot() doesn't work reliably, recursively.
When you found it to be better, you were just lucky.
The relevant file in R's source, src/main/optimize.c
says

Point of intersection
Hi,
Let say I have a normal density X~n(0,1) and I have a line y=0.01x+0.07. the
following code generate the plots.
x=seq(-10,10,length=100)
plot(x,p1,type='n',ylab="Density",main="Overlap Measure",xaxt="n",yaxt="n")
pi=dnorm(x,0,1)
points(x,p1,type='l')
abline(0.07,0.01)
you can see that the curves intersects at 3 points. My question is

[offtopic] Asterisk <-IP-> Siemens HiPath 4000
Hello!
Is it possible to connect Siemens HiPath 4000 to Asterisk? What
equipment required on Siemens side? I mean IP not E1.
Sorry for asking here. Siemens-related websites use "salesperson
language". There is no technical information.

Intersect 2 lists+bring extra columns
Hi everyone,
I am pretty new to R, so be patient.
I am trying to intersect 2 columns and in the rows that intersect, I want
information from the 3rd column to be brought with it. I think it will be
easier to explain with an example example.csv
<http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n4675136/example.csv> .
In my example, I have a reference list of fruit (first column), and my fruit

Wavelets correlation test
Hello,
I use wavethresh packages to perform wavelet analysis.
In particular, I would like to compare 2 signals (vectors) after a wavelet
decomposition. I would like to use cor.test function, but this function acts
on the entire vector values.
I plan to perform a cor.test on each level of the wavelet decomposition, say
N. So I will have at the end of a first step N results of cor.test.

Postscript PBs
Hi,
I use R 1.6.2 under Mandrake9.0.
I've got a problem with the postscript files I try to creat.
When I look to the file with ghostview it's ok.
When I want to print it, I've got a blank page or a black page (fill of black
encre)
I changed the printer (guessing it was my driver printer), it was the same.
Does anyone had the same problem and resolved it ?

Modeling the trend and eliminate it
Hi,
I would like to eliminate the trend of a set localised (with x an y) data.
I try to fit a linear model to the data:
mod.01 <- lm(ff~x+y)
I've got so a model. My question is how can I do to subtract the model from
the initial f data ?

R client connection OLAP cube (SQL Analysis Services / PivotTable Service)
I have been doing data analysis/modeling in R, connecting to SQL databases
with RODBC (winXP client with R1.9.0 and win2k SQL server 2000).
I am now trying to leverage some of the OLAP features to keep the data
intensive tasks on the DB server side and only keep the analytical tasks
within R (optimize use of memory). Is there any package that would allow to

Intersection of two sets of intervals
Hi,
Algorithm question: I have two sets of "intervals", where an interval is
an ordered pair [a,b] of two numbers. Is there an efficient way in R to
generate the intersection of two lists of same?
For concreteness: I'm representing a set of intervals with a data.frame:
