compling C code in R for Windows
I have used Splus 3.4 for UNIX and I have a C file that I compiled using "Splus COMPILE" and later called with dyn.load() and .C(). It works in Splus. multinomial logistic regression with survey data

Solving two nonlinear equations with two knowns
Dear R users, I have two nonlinear equations, f1(x1,x2)=0 and f2(x1,x2)=0. I try to use optim command by minimize f1^2+f2^2 to find x1 and x2. I found the optimal solution changes when I change initial values. How to solve this? BTW, I also try to use grid searching. But I have no information on ranges of x1 and x2, respectively. Any suggestion to solve this question? Thanks, Kate

How to calculte the power of a matrix

S speedup in R
Venables and Ripley describe a speedup where you take a structure like x<-NULL for(i in sequence) y<-c(y,function(x,i)) and convert it to one like x<-numeric(its length) for(i in sequence) y[i]<-function(x,i) I tried this speedup on some simple examples and it made them twice as fast.
