can you recommend a good manual for R that starts with a data set and gives demonstrations on what can be done using R? I downloadedR Langauage definition and An introduction to R but haven't found them overly useful. I'd really like to be able to follow some tutorials using a dataset or many datasets. The datasets I have available on R are Data sets in package 'datasets':

ancova help
I am trying to run an ancova and am having trouble setting it up properly. I have nearly 10,000 measurements of fish length, girth and stage of sexual development. I am suspicious that the stage of development is affecting the length (as they get full of eggs they get more round and are more difficult to measure and measure shorter). My data looks somethign like this: Length girth stage 40 50

no doubt a dumb question, but..
Yes, I am a newbie at R, but it is not the complex commands in R that have me baffled, but simple data commands. For example, why does something like: > plot(Girth ~ Height) *not* work after a command that allegedly loads the data: > data(trees) with the error message: Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : Object "Girth" not found but does work after the command: >

plotting picture data
Hi R users I have a dataset which represents points that are market by patients as the source of pain. Basically the patients indicates by a cross on a chest pictures where he/she thinks is the source of pain. The data was then digitalized by divinding the chest into small squares and each square was give value 1 if it was the center 2 if it was touched by the markings and 3 if it was not

Caret: Use timingSamps leads to error
I want to use the caret package and found out about the timingSamps obtion to obtain the time which is needed to predict results. But, as soon as I set a value for this option, the whole model generation fails. Check this example: ------------------------- library(caret) tc=trainControl(method='LGOCV', timingSamps=10) tcWithout=trainControl(method='LGOCV')

"Unable to optimize" error returned in factanal using R-3.0.1, Windows 64 bit, and OpenBLAS
Hello, I have been trying for weeks to compile a 64-bit Rblas. I started with ATLAS where I have had success in the past, but 64 bit was not behaving, and as each compilation takes between 9 and 12 hours, "test, check, and revise" was not going to be really viable. I therefore switched to OpenBLas (OPBL). I was successful in compiling R-3.0.1 and an OPBL-based BLAS for Windows 64bit

caret: Error when using rpart and CV != LOOCV
Hy, I got the following problem when trying to build a rpart model and using everything but LOOCV. Originally, I wanted to used k-fold partitioning, but every partitioning except LOOCV throws the following warning: ---- Warning message: In nominalTrainWorkflow(dat = trainData, info = trainInfo, method = method, : There were missing values in resampled performance measures. ----- Below are some

Frequency table to histogram
I have read a frequency table in to R called "temp." I now want to create a histogram table from it, but I obviously first have to expand the data - to the sample size of 100. I want to use the command rep(), but I'm not sure how to go about it..I tried using the code: temp1<-rep(temp$Chest,100) hist(temp1) But this creates a v. odd histogram so I know it must be wrong!

serialized attribute converting to string on reload
Hello, Anybody help me out? I done googled it good and didn''t find anything (which should mean that I''ve done something wrong). Not much code to talk about here, quite simply I have an attribute that is serialzied and when I update it, irb shows the object and my methods run on it as it were indeed so. Though when I reload it changes the data to a string. Not yaml, just one

Hi all, I'm an R newbie, I did this script to create a scatterplot using the "tree" matrix from "datasets" package: library('datasets') with(trees, { plot(Height, Volume, pch=3, xlab="Height", ylab="Volume") symbols(Height, Volume, circles=Girth/12, fg="grey", inches=FALSE, add=FALSE) } ) I'd like to use the column Named

map points from scatterplot3d onto 2d fitted plane
Dear R helpers, I have a 3D scatter plot that I have generated from scatterplot3d (which looks great- thanks!) and I can see that the points in my graph fall in a plane. Following the example 5 from 3D scatter plot (below) I have fitted a regression plane. Now what I would like to do is a rotation so that my new co-ordinate system is about the fitted plane (by finding the normal to the plane

R datasets ownership(copyright) and license
Dear R Developers, Recently filed (and dismissed ;) ) law suit by Astrolabe against tz database developers caused a lot of media-press and discussions and created some kind of precedence in the USA [3]. But also it imho showed that similar attacks might happen in the future, and possibly against data sets which are not that obviously "factual" thus after all might fall under copyright

Problem with scatterplot3d example
I tried to run the following example from section 4.1.4 of the "Scatterplot3d - an R package for Visualizing Multivariate Data" vignette and got an error on the part that plots the regression plane: > library(scatterplot3d) > data(trees) > s3d <- scatterplot3d(trees, type = "h", color = "blue", + angle = 55, scale.y = 0.7, pch = 16, main = "Adding

Add a few items (after about 8, is when it happens to me) then click close. THe animation is not very smooth for me, it only displays about 3 frames.
