Controller spec: testing that scope is set
In a Rails controller I set the scope on a model class in an around filter. I have defined expectations on the model classes, and ideally, I would add a further expectation for the scope. Is this already possible in some way? How would I go about adding support a scope expectation? Michael -- Michael Schuerig mailto:michael at schuerig.de http://www.schuerig.de/michael/

Macros and stuff
I was looking at my controller code and the edit/create/update/new for each are practically identical. So first I DRY''d the four methods in each controller to just one and then I decided to write a single macro for all my controllers. This is the macro: def self.edit_action_for(model, options = {}) model_class = Object.const_get(model) define_method(:edit) do

a better "should have valid associations"
This is pretty much the same as last time around, if you recall. Thanks to Wilson for converting to the new form. I''ve added a few lines. Basically, it iterates over your model associations and does two things. - First, just try to call the association. Usually fixes speeling erors or other such silliness. - Second, try to find a record with an :include on the association. This

Finding data which, when tweaked, matches.
Say I have a string : "012345678". I have a column in a table which also stores strings. I want to find all rows which match that string of numbers in that order. That is, "012345678" will match, but "012-34-5678" will, and "012sneeze345bless67you8thanks" also will. Do I have to do something like: ThisIsMyString = "012345678" fits =

possible BUG with as.data.frame() and/or [.data.frame
Here is a possible BUG with as.data.frame() and/or [.data.frame which broke Michael Lapsleys RODBC-Code. Can anyone confirm it is a bug or a 'feature' of the prototype? tablename <- "abc" a <- as.data.frame(cbind("abc", 1:3)) b <- as.data.frame(cbind(tablename, 1:3)) # ok > a V1 V2 1 abc 1 2 abc 2 3 abc 3 # missing column name > b tablename 1

Referencing a column using a function argument
Hi all, I've been having trouble with something that seems like it should be fairly straight forward. Any help at all from more experienced users is appreciated! I'd like to write a function that uses a column name as an argument. However, I run into problems when I try to reference this column within the function. For example, findCutoff <- function(tableName, columnName) {

I have a rails 3.rc app that I''m developing. I have a text entry in one my models that can sometimes be quite big. I tried setting :limit => 4294967296 on the text column in my migration file but this doesn''t seem to have any effect. The column is till created as a TEXT column rather than MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Is there

Updating a worksheet in Excel file using RODBC
Hello! I have no problem reading Excel files (each worksheet in the file is a "table" which can be read - at least in my case). What I would like to do is to read such a table, change it (just the contents, not the format) and write it back, and this I can not do. I am getting the following error messages (3 slightly different attempts): > sqlSave(con, x, tablename =

My code is this: Tablename.find(:all, :conditions => {:id => list}) Where list is a list of id''s (8,9,10) The problem is that the query is automatically formatted to this: SELECT * FROM Tablename WHERE (id in (''8,7,9'')) I need this query to run without the extra single quotes
