color coding a legend
I'm using R 1.6.2 on a Windows 2000 machine. I've plotted the results of an MDS run labeled by a numerical ID, and color coded by a group code: plot(cv.mds.spr$points, type="n", main="Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling of SprRun CV Watersheds") text(cv.mds.spr$points, labels = as.character(cv.wshed.id.spr), col = codes(cv.wshed.grp), cex=.75) Question is, how do I

subset with NA
Easy question that I can't find an answer for. I'm trying to subset a data frame and want to exclude the positive values, i.e. I want the NA values. My data: > summary(temp$tuna) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. NA's 1 2 3 3 4 5 1211 Querying for subset(temp, tuna %in% "NA", select.... subset(temp, tuna == NA,

Polymars
I've seen references to "polymars", an R implementation of Friedman's MARS algorithm. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find this (doesn't seem to be in the contributed packages. Another Mozilla issue
This isn't an R issue per se, but given the recent issues with Mozilla and help.search(), I figured I'd float it. I use mozilla on a WIN2000 box. I was using 1.0 and the help.search() wasn't working as has been discussed over the past few days. Yesterday I upgraded to 1.1, and the javascript help still does not work. (I checked and it is enabled.) Another problem I noticed this morning

Conditioned file Import?
I'm using R 1.6.2 on Windows 2000. I have two similar sets of files in two different directories. One contains species presence data and environmental measurements; the other contains species absence data and environmental measurements for the same variables as the presence data. The absence datasets contain many more observations than the presence datasets, and I'd like to draw a

using [i] to plot & label all vector elements
I'm using 1.6.2 on a win 2k box. (I know I'm due for an upgrade.) I've used brute force to label a series of vectors, and I'm wondering if there's a better way to do this. I wanted to create a biplot of the 2nd & 3rd PCs, and did this: test <- edit(loadings(cv.prc.spr)) test.1 <- test[,1] test.2 <- test[,2] test.3 <- test[,3] x0 <- 0 y0 <- 0 i <-

Scaling part of a data frame
I have a 30 x 27 data frame, which I'm trying to scale and transform. Only I want to scale certain all variables except one (the dependent, which I want to log+1 transform). I can use split() and then scale() and log1p(), but I'm wondering if I can do this in one call. I tried apply(), but I could only get the whole data frame, not a part of it: > test <- apply(chin.sub, 2, log1p)

need help on R
Hi, I am working on a modeling project for PMI-Australia and interested in using R, especially POLYMARS or PLYCLASS. I use SAS /PC on WINDOWS for the statistical analyses including Modeling. I got R downloaded to the system but can't figure out how to interface with SAS so that I could use SAS datasets already in place. Also I could not find POLYMARS on the library packages. I need to know

Start Model for POLYCLASS
Dear all, I have a question on how to set up the starting model in POLYCLASS and make sure the terms in the starting model retained in the final POLYCLASS model. In the function POLYMARS, this can be done using the STARTMODEL option. See below for example, I started with model y= b0 + b1*X1 + b2*X2 + b3*X4 + b4*X5 + b5*X2*X5 + e > m00 <- matrix(c( 1, NA, 0, NA, 1, 2,

Axes in polymars
Hi All, I can't quite figure out how to change the parameters of the x and y axes when I plot a polymars object. I want to add a scatterplot of the data points, but the polymars plot seems to automatically set the parameters to fit the polymars line. I've tried using plot(poly,1,fig= c(x1,x2,y1,y2)) but have no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks, Ryan

polymars
Can you help me interpret the output I get with "polymars"? I'd like to find a regression model to predict 2 dependent variables (then called Y1 and Y2) with 2 independent variables (then called X1 and X2). Changing code within a package
I was able to hack the code in the polspline package in order to change the plot.polymars function so that I can set the limits of my y-axis. However, I was only able to do this by entering plot.polymars in R, copying the code to Word, changing what I needed, and then pasting the new code in R to redefine the polt.polymars function. I was able to successfully change the function, but now I would

Package Dependency
Lately, I see a dependency problem with R-3.2 systems. install.packages allows dependencies, but they are not installed so the install fails. I see this a lot with students who are able to install packages like ggplot2 but then can't load it because a dependency "stringi" is missing. Those students are generally using Windows, but today I reproduced the same on RedHat Linux with

Question about Rweb
Greetings, I am working on creating an interactive website that will generate R-code for users based in the information they input on the site. Currently, the R-code can be generated and downloaded to be run locally on a computer with R. However, I have noticed a number of applications out there that instead submit the code directly to an R-web server. Some examples seem to be:

Rweb: how to use source()
I cannot discover how to set or find the working directory in Rweb, so that I can source() a file from the server. The file I source() must refer to a data file in its directory. setwd() does not do anything, and getwd() says that the working directory is in /var/www/cgi-bin/ (on Linux). (I have a student who installed R on her own computer and analyzed half of her data, and then her computer

what folder to run write_PACKAGES in?
I set up a local repo for testing packages. My packages are not showing up from the repository when viewed by Linux clients. I suspect this is a web administrator/firewall issue, but it could be I created the repo wrongly. I am supposed to run write_PACKAGES separately in each R-version folder. Right? Maybe other novices can use these scripts, if they are not wrong :) Here's the file
