finding contours in a matrix
Hi, I have matrix of sea bottom depths that I am plotting in R with the function 'image'. I am particularly interested in the 200m depth contour (I'm using 'distance from this feature' as a covariate in a model) and would like to extract the data at evenly spaced points along it. I can easily superimpose a line at 200m using the function 'contour'. What I want to

CFLAGS
I'm sure this is a very simple problem but I'm stuck. When running the ./configure script, to install R (version 1.6) on Solaris 2.6, I get an error message at the end of the configuration process "WARNING: f77 and cc disagree on int and double. configure: error: maybe change CFLAGS or FFLAGS?" However, I have seen no documentation on these flags' options, syntax, and how

nls confidence intervals
Hi, Does anyone know how to compute the confidence prediction intervals for a nonlinear least squares models (nls)? I was trying to use the function 'predict' as I usually do for other models fitting (glm, lm, gams...), but it seems that se.fit, and interval computation is not implemented for the nls... S+ style implementation of GAM for R?
Hi, I've got the R library "mgcv" for GAM written by Simon Wood which works well in many instances. However, over the years I got attached to the S+ implementation of GAM which allows loess smoothing in more than 1 dimension as well as spline smoothing. Has anyone ported the S+ GAM library to R? Changing font type within y axis labels
I wish place the following axis label in such a manner that some of the text is plain and the scientific name is in italics (i.e. a mixture of two font types) Using plot: mtext("Total Landings of Pecten maximus (tonnes)",font,=3, side=2, line=3) makes everything italic, but how do I apply the font change to only "Pecten maximus"? randomForest() segfaults under Solaris(SPARC) 2.7
Invocation of randomForest() using the iris example in the help file crashes R with a segmentation fault. This happens on all of our ultraSPARC machines running Solaris 2.7. We're using R-1.4.1, compiled using Sun cc and f77 and the flags: CC=cc CFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" FC=f77 FFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" "make check" runs withour errors, and R has been

optimizing R-1.4.0 build on Solaris; a show-and-tell storry
This is a little success story about the benefits of changing the defaults in config.site when I was building R-1.4.0 for Solaris (on a Sun Sparc that I'm currently using). For previous versions of R, I had just used the default config.site and not given it any thought. Since the Sun machine that I'm using is not getting any faster, I decided I would give config.site a look when building

Unable to configure R 2.2.1 on Solaris 5.10 x86_64
Hello, Apologies for the post here. I have read the R-Admin (learned a lot!) and searched the web for days, but still fail at compiling R on my Ultra 20 running solaris 10 x86 1/06. Using the 64-bit Solaris compilers make check dumps core in La_rs at 73 F77_CALL(dsyev)(jobv, uplo, &n, rx, &n, rvalues, work, &lwork, &info); I can't reproduce it easily, but example(eigen) occasionally stops with Error: abs(sm - V %*% diag(lam) %*% t(V)) < 60 * Meps is not TRUE which might be connected. configure error on alpha (PR#806)
Hi, I've found that the default options of gcc and g77 on alpha produce an executable that suffers from floating exceptions. There seems to be a problem with the configure scripts that prevents the --with-f77 option working correctly. The configure script tests that f77 is running by attempting to compile and link a dummy program - the link step seems broken on the alpha (it doesn't like

Assembler messages?
Up to now I have got the base R and about half of the packages working on SuSe Linux 5.3 using gcc, g77 and xdevel. The other half, for example: pspline, logspline, KernSmooth, akima, tripack, ppr, principal.curve, cluster, funfit, repeated, event, etc., just won't install. Some of them give warnings at expressions in subroutines (repeated, event, pspline,etc.. I will ask about this in
