I have a graphic image in a file (say a *.jpeg or *.png file) and want to put it into a plot. I have segmented the plot area by means of the layout function and successfully plotted my data in the appropriate segments. I cannot find how to put my graphic image onto the same plot. This is a strange request, but I want to build a scatterplot using different image files (jpegs, gif, etc.) as the plot symbols. I have thought about setting this up using a very large layout matrix, but I thought someone might have a better approach. I managed to read it in either tiff or jpeg format, but the returned pixmap object keeps its information out of (my) reach. I only found: - the pixmap-package which cannot import png or similar formats - the rimage-package which can only import lossy jpeg-images (the convertion from png to jpeg modifies the data!)
