nested for loop
Hi, I am new to programming and R. I am reading the manual and R books by Dalgaard and Veranzo to help answer my questions but I am unable to figure out the following: I have a data file that contains 1080 data points. Here's a snippet of the file: [241] 0.3603704000 0.1640741000 0.2912963000 NA 0.0159259300 0.0474074100 I would like to break the file up into 30

TmMidity
In trying to get NoteWorthy Composer working on my box (Mandrake 10.0, Gnome 2.4) I found a webboard for NWC under Linux (on wine). Following advice, I downloaded and compiled TiMidity. Unfortunately, when I try to follow the instructions given on the board, I get the following result [andrew@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]$ su Password: [root@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]# modprobe

no snowfall on debian after lenny upgrade
I feel like I've tried the works on something that should be obvious but I'm stuck. Package snowfall used to run just great under debian etch (amd-64, 2x quad-core). After upgrading to lenny (debian 5, reinstalled from scratch), I haven't been able to get snowfall running again. Password-less ssh works fine to localhost, its IP, or zero- config name. But when calling sfInit I

Looking for NoteWorthy Composer users under Wine
I am looking for people that is running NWC under Wine. I think there is a bug or something similar. As Wine can not fine the file nwcv15.ttf which, however, is placed in the right. I would like to know from other users how they have fixed this problem. I have got a lot of great help from different people to set up the font directory and all, but that does not seem enough to make this

Re: Noteworthy Composer under WineDbg
Hi Andrew, I'm moving this over to wine-users for now as there isn't a bug identified yet that I can see. Andrew wrote: > > fixme:commdlg:PRINTDLG_OpenDefaultPrinter Could not open printer > > EPSONStylusC42?! > No such dialog is displayed This is a red herring. It's not trying to display a dialog, it's telling you that the default printer specified in win.ini

SharpEye2 under wine
Thanks to this list and the NWC forum I've got NoteWorthy Composer running. Now (almost) all I need to get off Windows is a functioning SharpEye2, a music OCR program. I've asked SharpEye's author for help and he's working with me on it, but I know it's listed as functioning under Wine and I thought someone here might know how to get it working. It installs fine, but when I

Authenticating users over samba
Hello. I am administrating about 30PCs with W2K and users are authenticated in SAMBA running as PDC on Linux. About 16PCs have the possibillity to boot also into Linux. I would like to authenticate also linux users using the samba, because I do not want to copy passwd, group, shadow each time I add a user, or even add the user on each PC. I do not use LDAP a do not know NIS. Is it possible to use

Asterisk, QSIG and Tenovis PBX?
Hi, we are still trying to properly connect a Tenovis PBX to an Asterisk server (asterisk 1.2.6, libpri 1.2.2, zaptel 1.2.5, Digium Wildcard TE110P), this time with QSIG. Calling from a Tenovis phone to a SIP phone (i.e. traditional phone -> Tenovis PBX -> QSIG -> Asterisk -> SIP phone) works with the following messages: --- Don't know what to do if second ROSE component is of

nlme cross-over and fixed nested
I have problem getting the concept of a nested fixed variable into the nlme scheme. I fear the question is very stupid. In the past I had asked this before, and never got a reply (in other cases, the response was within hours). I also checked the S-list, where several similar enquiries of other people are orphaned. We have a cross-over design, where patient are treated two weeks with placebo,

SE of ANOVA (aov) with repeated measures and a bewtween-subject factor
Hallo! I have data of the following design: NSubj were measured at Baseline (visit 1) and at 3 following time points (visit 2, visit 3, visit 4). There is or is not a treatment. Most interesting is the question if there is a difference in treatment between the results of visit 4 and baseline. (The other time points are also of interest.) The level of significance is alpha=0.0179 (because of an

lme model specification
I have been asked to analyse the results of (what is to me) a very complicated experiment. The dependent measure is the estimated distance, which is measured as a function of the actual distance. There are also several other IVs. The plot of log estimated distance as a function of log distance is linear. So in the rest of the analysis I will use logestimate and logdistance. My plan is to see

Disagreement on where mail goes.
My virtual users have their mail stored in /usr/local/virtual/user at example.com/ dovecot wants to read the mail from /usr/local/virtual/user at example.com/Maildir which is causing problems since all new mail is being written in /usr/local/virtual/user at example.com/new and dovecot is looking in /usr/local/virtual/user at example.com/Maildir/new For the local users, /home/user/Maildir is the

Result depends on order of factors in unbalanced designs (lme, anova)?
Dear R-Community! For example I have a study with 4 treatment groups (10 subjects per group) and 4 visits. Additionally, the gender is taken into account. I think - and hope this is a goog idea (!) - this data can be analysed using lme as below. In a balanced design everything is fine, but in an unbalanced design there are differences depending on fitting y~visit*treat*gender or

disagreement in loglikelihood and deviace in GLM with weights leads to different models selected using step()
In species distribution modeling where one uses a large sample of background points to capture background variation in presence\pseudo-absence or use\available models (0\1 response) it is frequently recommended that one weight the data so the sum of the absence weights is equal to the sum of presence weights so that the model isn?t swamped by an overwhelming and arbitrary number of background

accessing a table
Hi, all. I'm sure this is a simple question, but I'm having problems figuring it out myself... I have a table: > currenttable <- table(junk[-1],junk[-n]) > currenttable bar foo junk bar 2 2 0 foo 1 0 0 junk 0 0 1 and I'd like to know the result of the cell currenttable(bar, foo). what is the best way to get that result? thanks!

Maildir folder renaming disagreement among IMAP clients
A user alerted me to a problem when he renamed an upper level mail folder and lost access to a lower level folder under it. I tried with and without listescape, it didn't seem to make a difference, and I saw no errors in the dovecot log. Symptoms are if a client has a maildir folder tree .a and .a.b and renames a to c in their client, Thunderbird shows c/b but b is inaccessible since it

Chi-Square Test Disagreement
I was asked by my boss to do an analysis on a large data set, and I am trying to convince him to let me use R rather than SPSS. I think Sweave could make my life much much easier. To get me a little closer to this goal, I ran my analysis through R and SPSS and compared the resulting values. In all but one case, they were the same. Given the matrix [,1] [,2] [1,] 110 358 [2,] 71 312 [3,]

R and Excel disagreement - Goal Seek versus uniroot
Dear friends - occurring in Windows R2.6.2 I am modeling physical chemistry in collaboration with a friend who has preferred working in Excel. I used uniroot, and find a solution to a two buffer problem in acid-base chemistry which I believe is physiologically sensible. Using "goal seek" in Excel my friend found another plausible root, quite close to zero, and a plot of the function
