Access to cran.us.r-project.org
I am the maintainer of one of the CRAN mirrors in the U.S., cran.us.r-project.org. It appears that this site has been inaccessible since Friday. This has me puzzled because I can connect to the same machine through ssh and I can see that the http daemon (apache) is running. In fact I can make an http connection from this machine to this machine and from other machines on any of our subnets to

http://cran.us.r-project.org/ inaccessible
For the last couple of days when I go to http://cran.us.r-project.org/ I see only the left-hand margin logo and table of contents. If I click on one of the links there, I get a timeout. Other sites (e.g., http://cran.stat.ucla.edu/) work fine for me. Lacking complete confidence this is a bug*, as well as any better notion of where to report this, I'm reporting it here. *I have had problems

rsync.r-project.org and cran.us.r-project.org
Around noon Wednesday, Sept 25, the machine that serves as rsync.r-project.org and cran.us.r-project.org had a catastrophic disk failure. I came back to my office after a lecture and immediately thought "I don't think disk drives are supposed to make grinding noises". :-) It was the drive with the system files that failed. Most user files and the CRAN archive (not to mention the

cran.us.r-project.org and www.omegahat.org back on line
We had two power failures Saturday morning that brought down the machine that serves as cran.us.r-project.org and as www.omegahat.org. The automatic reboot was unsuccessful because one of the file systems required a manual file system check. I was blissfully unaware of this until this morning. Those sites are now back online.

Stale cran.us.r-project.org ?
apt-get updates kept getting errors / failure for cran.us.r-project.org so I finally switched it to cran.r-project.org and am now getting updates for two Ubuntu machines. Anybody else seeing this? Dirk -- Dirk Eddelbuettel | edd at debian.org | http://dirk.eddelbuettel.com

rsync.r-project.org available again
The rsync site is back up. It may take a while for the new location to percolate through the DNS servers. Unable to connect to 'cran.r-project.org' on port 80.
Hi. I recently upgraded my R installation to 2.11.0 on Windows XP (SP3) without changing any firewall settings. When I attempted to update my package list, the 'Select a mirror' took much longer than it normally did, and after I finally selected the site, I saw: --- Please select a CRAN mirror for use in this session --- Warning message: In open.connection(con, "r") : unable to

unable to connect to 'cran.r-project.org' on port 80.
I tried to select a mirror site from R, but got the following error - > chooseCRANmirror() Warning message: In open.connection(con, "r") : unable to connect to 'cran.r-project.org' on port 80. The consequence is that i have to install R-packages by downloading zip files one by one, and then load them one by one. Anybody has run into similiar problem? Thanks. -- View

CRAN 'R Sources' page: Provide link to https://svn.r-project.org/R/
Not sure who is the webadmin for https://cran.r-project.org/sources.html, so posting it here: I just noticed it's not straightforward to find the Subversion URL for the R source code. A natural search would be to go to https://cran.r-project.org/, then click 'Source code' to get to https://cran.r-project.org/sources.html. That page does mention "Subversion tree", but it

apt-get update: GPG error from cran.R-project.org
I recently was forced to do a dist-upgrade and rebuild my kernel, so a lot has changed on my system, and I don't know if that is related to the errors & warnings I get from apt-get update. Well, I feel silly.? There are three places MAILTO can affect crond: /etc/crontab, /etc/crond.d/0hourly, and /etc/anacrontab.? Once I set this in these 3 files, I started getting mail from crond.? Thank you all for your help. --- Chad Cordero Information Technology Consultant Enterprise & Cloud Services Information Technology Services California State University, San Bernardino 5500
