ANN: acts_as_ferret
Hi all
This week I have worked with Rails and Ferret to test Ferrets (and Lucenes)
capabilities. I decided to make a mixin for ActiveRecord as it seemed the
simplest possible solution and I ended up making this into a plugin.
For more info on Ferret see:
http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/
The plugin is functional but could easily be refined. Anyway I want to share it
with you. Regard it as a

Problem with stemming and AAF
I''m sure I''m missing something completely obvious here, so I hope
someone can point me in the right direction!
I''ve implemented a basic search with AAF, which works as expected; I''m
running a ferret drb server, and using will_paginate to page results.
The code in my search_controller.rb:
search_text = params[:query] || " "

Stemming, stop words, acts_as_ferret
I''d like to get the following behavior:
1. Stemming. The search is on a database of summaries of California legal
cases. Things like a search for "thermal image" needs to hit "thermal
imaging."
2. Stop words. Searches for "failing to instruct the jury" should come up
with hits on a search for "fail to instruct."
3. Case-insensitive.

stop words in query
Hello all,
Quick question, I''m using AAF and the following custom analyzer:
class StemmedAnalyzer < Ferret::Analysis::Analyzer
include Ferret::Analysis
def initialize(stop_words = ENGLISH_STOP_WORDS)
@stop_words = stop_words
end
def token_stream(field, str)
StemFilter.new(StopFilter.new(LowerCaseFilter.new(StandardTokenizer.new(str)),
@stop_words))
end

Menu definition problem
Hi,
I''m currently in the process of switching from my previous web page
management tool (by coincidence also called "webgen" ;-) to webgen-0.5
and stumbled upon a problem regarding the definition of menus, which
I can not resolve either by the online documentation or the previous
posts in the different groups (maybe it is a too trivial question?)
I want to define a standard

root_path and root_url undefined
Hi all,
I''ve just started working on another RoR project after a couple of months
away. I''m having trouble with named routes, specifically root_*
In previous apps I''ve used root_path and root_url without any problems, but
in this project (2.3.2 - the same as my last project where I used it) it
comes up undefined.
I''ve double and triple checking my routes.rb,

Possible Bug when Creating Indexes

Dynamic fields and AAF
Hi,
I have a model which has properties, these are your standard name/value
pairs, but also have attributes that affect how I want to store them in
ferret. I was using 0.9.5 with 0.2 of aaf, which seemed fine, I just
copied and pasted (yes, I know, ick) the to_doc method and added code to
iterate though the properties that that model had, and add relavent
fields to the document.
It seems

The following script creates a search index and then searches it. I get
no results? Where am I going wrong?
Thanks.

require ''ferret''
include Ferret
path = ''/tmp/myindex''
field_infos = Ferret::Index::FieldInfos.new()
field_infos.add_field(:name, :store => :yes, :index => :yes)

Ferret EOFError creating index
I''ve been messing around with Ferret (no punn intended). After spending
some time testing it out (indexing to file), I decided to index about
10% of the data I want to eventually index. It took several hours to
complete the index on my local machine, but it was created without any
problems and after optimising it the searches returned results at the
sort of speed I was expecting. I

Can I omit respond_with.
If I don''t want xml results but only html can I omit respond_with in
some actions?
For example index from:
respond_with(@sectors = Sector.all)
becomes only
@sectors = Sector.all
isn''t it?

cFerret ETA?
I''m noticing some long delays when optimizing my index. I know this
is terribly inefficient, but in order to make sure that my
ActiveRecord model is in sync with my index, I''m optimizing after
every new record that I store, like so:
class Resume < ActiveRecord::Base
include Ferret
has_and_belongs_to_many :users

seg faults and problems with new version
Hi all,
first off, it''s 2AM and I''m not thinking properly, so please
forgive me if this one''s easy, but I just need to get this going.
First problem, using 0.9.6 on all of our development machines,
works great, then we move it to a server running x86_64 linux and it
segfaults as soon as it tries to create an Index. I''ve tried
rebuilding with different

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi,
We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The
app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed
anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they
should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we
came upon a concrete instance of this.
Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords
