acl_system plugin first look
Friends- Here is another plugin hot off the presses of the three day weekend ;) Its a role based authorization system. I have been talking with Bill Katz about this system so it ties in with his recent announcement as well. Its just my implementation. Its an acl/role type system that can sit on top of the acts_as_authenticated login system or any login system that implements a few

[JOB] at yakimaherald.com
Friends- I have taken a new job and will be moving at the end of March. The newspaper I currently work for is looking for someone to take my place. I have really enjoyed working here. It is a great environment with very nice people to work with. And the best part is you get to develop in Ruby and Rails, for everything! The paper is willing to accept applications from people who would

Rubuntu Live CD for Rails
Friends- I am almost finished with a custom live cd called Rubuntu ;-) This is an ubuntu live cd variant that comes preloaded with ruby and rails developers in mind. I already have it working with all the basics but I was wondering what extras people would like to see on this distro. What editors with what configurations? What other tools do people really like for rails development on a

Hello there list- I have a question I hope someone can answer. I have a Debian server that currently has mod_ruby and eruby installed and working great for the last year or so. I also have one rails app working great on this box. My question is this: I want to switch to fastcgi so i can have more than one rails app, but there are already many scripts using eruby with no framework at all just

ez_where plugin updated features.
Friends- I wanted to let people know that there is a new experimental release of this plugin. I would love feedback on syntax and features. There is now a full test suite with fixtures that covers all the available syntax. Look at the test suite for more syntax possibilities. There have been many additions since my last release. Fabien Atelier has been working on this with me and has

new BackgroundRB
Hey Greg- Yes I am sorry, the new architecture uses fork and named pipes and a bunch of unix stuff to do its magick. Now you may be able to port it to qwork on windows, but I don''t think it is possible :( I''m really sorry about this but I need this thing to be as robust and solid as it can be and in the end windows isn''t compatible. Now you may be able to

Corrected msg about Linux Mint 19.1 install
Apologies for some errors inserted by overly-helpful input filters on Thunderbird. Here's the corrected version. Just in case others hit the same glitch. It's not directly an R issue, but if folk can't get an install to work, they are not going to use R. While I've always had a straightforward experience before, this install gave some troubles. Can't connect to Asterisk cli
Hello, I have started using Asterisk recently on my Ubuntu server. I installed it first using apt-get and it worked fine sort of, but still couldn't hear voice during the call! I read that this problem solved by reinstalling it, so I decided to reinstall the latest version from the source as apt-get can give you only Asterisk 1.8So I have installed Asterisk 11 following the procedure in

coolest software ("coolest startups" re-asked)
Asked a little while back about "coolest startups" using Rails, I think it''d have been better had I asked "coolest software." Besides the obvious (37Signals, Typo, Yakima Herald, Odeo, Measure Map, etc.), I''m just curious about other developments where people are using it to make nifty stuff. -- Giles Bowkett www.gilesgoatboy.org

Testing custom mongrel handlers?
Hey Folks- I''m trying to setup a new test/spec harness for testing Merb. I was wondering if there is a way to mock the Mongrel request, response objects easily to test my handler without actually running a server? I can easily do the env hash but I''m not entirely sure what needs to go in the request StringIO object that gets passed into my mongrel handler''s

BackgrounDRb 0.2.1 Release
It''s that time again friends. skaar has been at it again and has greatly improved the stability of the new system. Status Update
Heya folks- I just wanted to give a little status update on the new version of BackgrounDRb. Skaar has stepped up big time and done a ton of work getting the new architecture going so big thanks to him. I will be doing some documentation and a few more tweaks and we should have a new release shortly. Cheers- -- Ezra Zygmuntowicz -- Lead Rails Evangelist -- ez at engineyard.com --
