Problems with make pdf (R-patched_2002-07-15.tar.gz)
After configure, make and make check on a linux Suse 7.3 box, I run make dvi and make info with no problems but get a lot of garbage to my screen during make pdf. Is this normal? Is there a bug in this part of the installation? This is part of what I get on the screen: humboldt:/usr/local/R-patched # make pdf make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/R-patched/doc' make[2]: Entering

R CMD INSTALL cannot find libf77blas
I feel like Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" where he's told "It's not your night, kid", except for me it has been the last two months trying to debug memory problems. Now I can't even install an old version of this package on a netbook running the Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix because it can't find the libraries libf77blas and libatlas. I have even gone to

ATLAS
I thought I would try compiling R this time with the ATLAS libraries. I have compiled ATLAS and I have the following libraries: libatlas.a libf77blas.a libptcblas.a libtstatlas.a libcblas.a liblapack.a libptf77blas.a Is it sufficient to use ' --with-blas=libatlas.a ' when configuring or do I need to specify any of the other libraries as well? -- William D. R and 2 processors
As far as I can see by searching the archieves, R could not take advantage of two processors in the same machine but there were plans for implementing multithreading in R. Is this work going on? On the other hand, if two processors are present in the same linux machine is it possible to focus one processor on tasks of the operative system and the other on R and/or other real computing? Could

R INSTALL: problem related to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Well, I've found that the line in INSTALL that gives the problem is gzip -dc "${1}" | (cd "${tmpdir}" && tar -xf -) ("tar: /usr/local/lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.2' not found (required by /lib/librt.so.1)") If I run that command from the shell, i.e., gzip -dc KernSmooth_2.22-7.tar.gz | (cd /tmp/R.INSTALL.2186 && tar -xf -) it runs

LAPACK libraries improperly linked
I am not sure if this is an R development problem or not. I am starting with completely clean OS and and installing the latest version of R without trying to anything special but I am having trouble with the LAPACK library linking when I try to build packages that require them. I thought perhaps my problem may be if interest here. I just dumped Vista off a laptop formatted the disk and

LAPACK lib problem, lme4, lastest R, Linux
I just dumped Vista off a laptop and installed Ubuntu 10.10 (latest release) as the single operating system. I did all of the updates and then installed emacs and ess. Next I installed R by following the the usual instructions on the CRAN site. At this point all is working I am now in the process of installing the packages that I normally have installed. I am having a problem with the LAPACK

stock ubuntu raring binary R 3.0.1 and accelerated blas libraries?
dear debian-R group: I am using the stock ubuntu binary R 3.0.1 for ubuntu raring but on cinnamon mint olivia 15. I read dirk's gcbd paper from a couple of years ago. it suggests that stock blas is pretty bad compared to the four main alternatives. of course, dirk also maintains the binaries for debian/ubuntu R, so he probably knows the answer off hand. I installed libatlas3-base

Special BLAS and explcit parallel code
Hi I just read the thread on gotoBLAS, as well as the excellent vignette of gcbd. I still have some confusion and would like to ask very basic questions, hope I am not taking too much of your time. The point that retained my attention was the question of using implicit (multi-threaded blas) versus explicit (parallel code) optimisation. As I understood, the ideal would be to use a

forwarded message from Dirk Eddelbuettel <edd@debian.org>
Dirk's mail to r-devel bounced because of his peculiar return address. He asked me to forward this for him. P.S. I have tried building R with atlas2 on a Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 system but I have not yet managed to out-fox the configure script to get it to use the desired shared object library. -- Douglas Bates bates@stat.wisc.edu Statistics Department

make check fails with default libblas
Dear All, Summary: ======== To test some packages, I want to build R-3.1.0 (current R devel). However, when I use the default libblas, make check fails with running code in 'reg-BLAS.R' ...make[3]: *** [reg-BLAS.Rout] Error 1 It does not fail, however, if I use libatlas3 or libopenblas. The same thing happens with the current R patched. I've google around and cannot find

R and multi cpu ATLAS
Dirk suggested I move this thread over here. I am trying to get a multithreaded (multi CPU) version of ATLAS working with R, and have been unable, thus far, to get it working. Has anyone gotten an multithreaded version of ATLAS working on Debian (64 bit)? I've tried this: apt-get source atlas -t unstable cd atlas-3.8.3 DEFAULTS=n fakeroot debian/rules custom but it is APPEARING to only

Configure errors say to report here... (PR#11470)
Hi, I'm attempting to compile R 2.7.0 on my G5, which is running OSX 10.5.2. Yes, I know there is a precompiled binary, but my experience has shown that if I hand-compile ATLAS on my machine and then link R against it when compiling, R runs faster, hence me compiling it myself. Anyway, I have this set of errors: checking X11/Intrinsic.h usability... no checking X11/Intrinsic.h presence...
