plotting text on a postscript device
It seems that the text command isn't working for a postscript device. Here is my code: #----------------------------- # I have stored some data in a 21 by 21 matrix called mat x <- 1:ncol(mat); y <- 1:nrow(mat); labs <- c(" ", "1298", "1537", "TP53", "786", "974", "1303", "1288", "1294",

html bug in internal links of documentation (PR#1117)
Full_Name: Carlo Maley Version: 1.3.1-1 OS: Debian Linux 2.2 Submission from: (NULL) (140.107.26.74) I noticed while reading some of the html documentation (e.g. R-intro.html) that many of the internal links in the documents were broken. At least they don't work in Mozilla 0.9.3. This is because the strings for the internal references include %20 rather than just spaces. This could easily

How to remove outer box from Wireframe plots?
I would like to remove the outermost box from my wireframe plots -- this is the box that is automatically generated, and is not the inner cube that frames the data. There was a thread on this 4 yrs ago but none of the fixes work (e.g., grid.newpage(), grid.lines(gp = gpar(col = NA)) or par.box=list(col=1),col=NA. These just make the data or the cube disappear. Has anyone solved this issue?

Eliminate border in wireframe plot
How can I eliminate the border drawn by default around a wireframe plot? I've tried using border=NA and box=FALSE to no avail. Scott Waichler Pacific Northwest National Laboratory scott.waichler at pnl.gov

How to control spaces between axis, tick and label in xyplot or xYplot?
Dear R users, I encounter a problem regarding space control in xyplot. Basically, I want to control spaces between label, tick and axis. I remember there is a function called mgp in general plot. Is there a similar function for xyplot or xYplot? Below is my basic code: myplotkid<-xyplot(expected_offspringnumber~afr|decade,groups=SES,data1,

Lattice graphics and strip function
I am looking for examples of code that demonstrates the fine tuning of the strip panels in lattice graphics and uses plotmath characters. The code for the graphic is as follows: xyplot(lagy ~ n | rho1 * rho2, data= data, layout=c(2,6), span = 1, xlab = "Sample Size", ylab = "Bias in the Coefficient for the Lag of X", type = "o") rho1 is a four level factor

Plotting irregular grid as image or persp
Hi, I have an array of 2d node locations and an array triangles, and would like to plot something like a image or persp. An example of doing it with rgl is: library(ncdf) library(rgl) # wget http://www.maplepark.com/~drf5n/extras/teapot.nc teapot<-open.ncdf("teapot.nc") z<-get.var.ncdf(teapot,"tris") l<-get.var.ncdf(teapot,"locations")

Function objects as arguments of a function
Hello, R users. In C (or C++) language, a function can be used as an argument of another function as follows: // function used as an argument void foo(int x) { ... } // function using a function as an argument void bar(void (*func)(int ), int arg1, int arg2) { .... } // The function 'bar' will be called as follows int main() { .... bar(foo, arg4foo, other_arg);

Giving up on authentication to trusted domain
I've pretty much decided that this doesn't work, but I'd like to take this last opportunity to find out if ANYONE has a working configuration like mine: Samba server: v2.2.3a running on a RedHat Linux 7.2 system, plus Winbind. The Samba server is in the PHS-SC domain, and can be browsed from "My Network Places". User "cbenson" has an NT account in the FHCRC domain

`mgp[1:3]' are of differing sign (PR#14130)
Full_Name: Cornell Gonschior Version: 2.10.0 OS: Linux Submission from: (NULL) (212.201.28.40) Hi, in the introduction to R, you can find the following sentence in the par() chapter: "Use tck=0.01 and mgp=c(1,-1.5,0) for internal tick marks." I thought that's nice, because I wanted to have tick marks and tick labels inside and the axis title outside. But: > plot(z, las=1,

axis labels in multiple plots
Hi, I'am trying to make a multiple bar plot over a map and I'm having difficulties with the distance between axes labels and the axis. Trying to control this with mgp does not help because it controls both axes simultaneously. For example, with default values (mgp = c(3, 1, 0)) y-axis labels are ok, but x-axis labels are not. Setting mgp = c(3, 0, 0) gives good x-axis labels but the

Adding points to wireframe
Hi, I am using function wireframe from package lattice to draw a 3D surface. I would like to add a few points on the surface. I read in a post from Deepayan Sarkar that "To do this in a wireframe plot you would probably use the panel function panel.3dscatter". Does someone have an example? When calling panel.3dscatter with only x, y and z arguments I get "argument

par(mgp) - unexpected behaviour (PR#6045)
Full_Name: Nicholas Boers Version: 1.8.1 OS: Windows XP Home Edition, Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 Submission from: (NULL) (24.68.84.10) mgp[2] specifies the axis labels' margin line relative to that of the axis line (mgp[3]). The `par' help does not document this behaviour. The following code demonstrates my observation: plot.new(); par(mgp = c(3, 2, 1)); box(); title(xlab =

R help files -> S-Plus; par('mgp')
Thanks to Brian Ripley I have been using R utilities for some time for converting S-Plus UNIX nroff help files to .Rd to .html files. .Rd files seem to be the most natural format for help files and this format is probably easier to maintain than nroff, so I would like to start using .Rd files as my master documentation format if anyone has a utility for going from .Rd to nroff. I guess I could

axis() ignores supplied value of argument mgp[3]?
It seems that when an argument 'mgp' is supplied to axis(), the mgp[2] value (position of tick mark labels) is honoured but the mgp[3] value (position of axis line) is ignored. Example: plot(1:5, xaxt='n', ann=FALSE) par(mgp=c(0,2,1)) axis(1, at=2:4, mgp=c(0,-2,-3)) Axis line is plotted at margin line 1, tick mark labels at line -3. Is this a bug? J. R. M. Hosking

plot3d, wireframe, persp help
Hello, I am trying to get a surface plot of a data set that looks like the following, 1 2 5.6 5 9 2.4 9 8 9.8 ... to (60,000 rows down) From my homework, the persp function only works with evenly spaced data points with the z data beeing in a matrix. my data is not in that format. the wireframe fxn gives me an error, no applicable method for "wireframe" the

Layering multiple persp plots
Hi all, I've got two persp plots with Identical X and Y's, and I'd like to plot them on the same graph, so that it is obvious where one plot is above the other. I can't find any mention of this anywhere. Do I need to use wireframe? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -- Ian Bentley M.Sc. controlling plot spacing?

lattice wireframe within a loop ???
Hi, I have the following problem. Calling wireframe within a loop results into an empty window(s) #generate some data temp = expand.grid(A = 1:3,B = 1:3) temp = cbind(temp, y1 = rnorm(9)) temp = cbind(temp, y2 = runif(9)) #plot y1 and y2 in two different windows for(i in 1:2) { wireframe(y1 ~ A*B, temp, shade =T) windows() wireframe(y2 ~ A*B, temp, shade =T) } #However, calling it twice
