R from SVN fails to build on win32
I get the following error when building R from the subversion server as
well as the latest tarball. I am on Windows XP, and I recently updated
my MinGW installation. It's quite possible I am doing something wrong,
but I am not sure what that might be.
making console.d from console.c
making dataentry.d from dataentry.c
making dynload.d from dynload.c
making edit.d from edit.c

file 2 is not in sorted order error building unsuffered consequences
Hi All,
I just downloaded the source tar ball (Revision: 59324 Last Changed
Date: 2012-05-07) and tried to compile on a Win x64 system. I am
using Rtools version 2.15.0.1919. The only change I make is changing
MkRules.dist -> MkRules.local and setting Multi=64 I have previously
compiled unsuffered consquences without issue, but on the current
version, I get this error

Error building R 2.14.0 from sources on Win7 x64
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to build R 2.14.0 from source on Win7 x64 using the
instructions from "R Installation and Administration" (version
2.13.2), but when I try to make the core files (as of step 3.1.3 of
the instructions), it fails with the following error:

S4 summary method not being called (VGAM)
The symptom triggering this email is that an S4 summary method sometimes refuses to be invoked, even when a package is explicitly loaded, if the first load of the package is implicit. It may or may not be specific to 'summary' methods and/or the 'VGAM' package. I've sent to R-devel because (i) it looks like some kind of bug to me, but I'm not sure; (ii) it's not

Incompatibility with VGAM
I just discovered that when the VGAM package (not on CRAN) is loaded,
glm() doesn't work. This is because VGAM defines a family function()
which gets found
by glm() in place of the family function from stats.
Then VGAM:::family returns an object which doesn't have a $family
component, (it has a component
$vfamily).
I thought namespaces should protect us from this happening?

New version of Rtools for Windows
Oh, I forgot to mention that besides setting AR, RANLIB and the stack probing fix, you also need a very up to date binutils. 2.25 was out in december. Even with that , if you linker's default is not what you are compiling for (i.e. a multiarch toolchain), you need to set GNUTARGET also, i.e. -m32/-m64 is not enough. Some fix to autodetect non-default targets went in after christmas before the

rzinb (VGAM) and dnbinom in optim
Dear R-help gurus (and T.Yee, the VGAM maintainer) -
I've been banging my head against the keyboard for too long now, hopefully someone can pick up on the errors of my ways...
I am trying to use optim to fit a zero-inflated negative binomial distribution. No matter what I try I can't get optim to recognize my initial parameters. I think the problem is that dnbinom allows either

Cross-compilation of R and ld bug ?
Hello list,
I would like to cross-compile R packages using R 2.4.0. I am working on
Linux Debian and cross-compiled (windows binaries) without problems with
older R version.
I have used the doc of Yan and Rossini in the contributed section of the
R documentation (same version of MinGW...).
When I try to cross-compile R (make R), the procedure stopped and returns :

Bug in VGAM z value and coefficient ?
Dear,
When i multiply the y of a regression by 10, I would expect that the
coefficient would be multiply by 10 and the z value to stay constant. Here
some reproducible code to support the case.
*Ex 1*
library(mvtnorm)
library(VGAM)
set.seed(1)
x=rmvnorm(1000,sigma=matrix(c(1,0.75,0.75,1),2,2))

VGAM constraints-related puzzle
Hello R users,
I have a puzzle with the VGAM package, on my first excursion into
generalized additive models, in that this very nice package seems to
want to do either more or less than what I want.
Precisely, I have a 4-component outcome, y, and am fitting multinomial
logistic regression with one predictor x. What I would like to find
out is, is there a single nonlinear function f(x) which acts

silent loading of packages
I would like to turn off all the messages during

I tried different commands: invisible, capture.output, sink but none of them is working.
For example, loading VGAM, gives a lot of unnecessary messages:
