Tcl/tk , question about the environment of the call
This is my simple code, my intention is to let the inner function browse the objects in the outer function. ####################### tk1 <- function() { tk2 <- function() { inner <- 3 list2 <- ls() #list objects in fuction tk2 print("**** inner objects ****") print(list2) #list objects in fuction tk1 list_parent <- ls(parent.frame())

another tcl/tk query
Greetings: I wish to use a tcl/tk widget to ask for user-selected parameter values. My widget works ? it asks for and returns to my workspace the stuff I need. Here is a snippet of my code: ############################### OnOK <- function() { LOG.X <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.X.buttonValue))) LOG.Y <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.Y.buttonValue)))

R Tcl/Tk: How to put widgets in text widget?
Dear all, please excuse the somewhat special question: >From within R I create a Tk windows with a list of checkboxes, which can bekome too long for the screen. The obvious solution would be to put all checkboxes into a frame and make that scrollable. Alas, there are (for whatever reason!) no scrollable frames in Tk :-( The usual workaround is to put widgets (my checkboxes) into a textbox,

update.packages forces Tcl/Tk interface despite ask=TRUE if the DISPLAY environment variable is set (PR#8115)
Full_Name: Robert King Version: 2.1.1 OS: Linux (debian stable, with backport R) Submission from: (NULL) (142.58.147.28) update.packages documentation (and code, from what I can make out) says: ask: logical indicating whether to ask user before packages are actually downloaded and installed, or the character string '"graphics"', which brings up a

Combo Box Wdget for Tcl/Tk under R
Hi, I have two questions: First, does anyone know how to put a combobox inside a GUI made with Tcl/Tk ? I think there isn't a simple way to do this (a command like tkcombobox()!), but is it possible to write a more complex code to achieve this ? Second, when I put two listboxes in the same window or frame (even in two different toplevel windows), I cannot select things in the two lists

tk non-widget commands (esp. update and winfo)
Hi, I've been playing with the tcltk package. It's very nice to have access to buttons, menus etc. now. Thank you! Alas, I also have questions: In Tcl everything is a string [*]. This is not the case in R, of course. So why are return values of tk commands still strings? (Is there any other reason than speed or "package is work in progress"?) Example: > tt <-

Using Java or Tcl/Tk in R
Dear R People: This is more of an opinion question please: When putting together GUI type functions, is it better to use JAVA or Tcl/Tk, please? Any input is appreciated! Tcl Tk table
Hi I've a problem with the following example: library(tcltk) .Tcl("array unset tclArray") myRarray <- matrix(1:1000, ncol=20) for (i in (0:49)) for (j in (0:19)) .Tcl(paste("set tclArray(",i,",",j,") ",myRarray[i+1,j+1],sep="")) tt<-tktoplevel() table1 <- tkwidget(tt,"table",variable="tclArray",

Getting width of Tk text widget via tcltk
Dear list members, Is it possible via a suitable tcltk command to get the *current* width, in characters, of a Tk text widget that has been resized with the mouse? In the following code, the reported width of the text widget doesn't change, even though it has been resized. I can, however, get the current width in pixels: > library(tcltk) > top <- tktoplevel() > textWindow <-

R tcl/tk
Friends: I am a long-time R user, learning tcl/tk, and am tying myself in knots over something that should be simple. I want to create a frame and put that frame inside the toplevel frame. This works (i.e. it places text in col 1, and the corresponding entry box in column 2) and later frame.2 resides where it should in the toplevel frame. tkgrid(tklabel(frame.2, text="FACTOR column

tcl/tk return problem
Hello, I'm very new in working with tcl/tk in R and have a problem which will probably sound silly to most of you. Here is the code I have problems with: readcelfiles <- function() { require(tcltk) tt <- tktoplevel() tkgrid(tklabel(tt,text="Choose a directory!")) OnOK <- function() { fileDir<-tclvalue(tkchooseDirectory()) data.raw <-

Using Tk table widget to display matrix
Has anyone written a matrix editor or data.entry() replacement using the Tk table widget? I've been playing around with the examples at http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/tktable.html and making some progress, but I'd rather not spend much time on this if someone else has already done it. [PATCH] remove a duplicate tk function definition (and alphabetize)
'tkcoords' is defined twice (in the same way) in src/library/tcltk/R/Tk.R. Attached is a patch against r63780 that removes the duplicate definition and alphabetizes the functions. I've read that minor patches such as this should be sent to r-devel [1]. Scott [1] http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.r.devel/33987 -- Scott Kostyshak Economics PhD Candidate Princeton

Tcl/Tk and mouse
Within a loop I tried to draw some things in dependency on the position of the mouse. This works fine with R-1.5.1 but R-1.6.1 requires to include some delay by Sys.sleep(delay) with delay>=0.015. For smaller values (e.g. 0.0001) the top level tcltk-window does not appear and so I am not able to control the elements to be plotted using the tcltk-widget. Question1: How can I force

Pasting into Tk table widget?
I'm working on a matrix editor using the Tk table widget, and it is almost done. It slices, dices, etc., and it can paste into Excel from an R session running on Linux. What I don't know how to do is paste from Excel into a Tk table, and Google is not helping me. Can anyone lend me a clue? Jeff

read.table in TCL/TK interface
hello, i would like program userfriendly tcl/tk widgets like the t-test example in a more complex way ! (1) Is it not possible to combine tk_getOpenFile with the R function read.table to select in userfriendly way data sets ? (I'm newbie and take code-parts from t-test example and scripting example.) (2) Is it possible to use a variableSelection widget to select a special variable which i

need gui matrix editor: does R Core team have advice on how?
Dear R-devel: Would R core team consider endorsing a graphical toolkit and trying to facilitate development of little GUI tools? I need a gui matrix editor for users that want to be able to write matrices that are later used to simulate data. Instead of teaching them to write a covariance matrix (for example, for mvtnorm), I want to tell them run a function that pops up a table they can fill

Tk force refresh
I'm trying to use a Tk widget to show some progress & intermediate results in a long-running R calculation. Does anybody know how (or whether) I can force a window redraw without waiting for the idle loop? Currently, refreshes only seem to happen when we return to the R toplevel read-eval-print loop. Thanks, Mark <><
