bwplot colours
Dear All,
is any way I can change the colours of the box and umbrella of a bwplot
without having to go to the length of:
box.rectangle<-trellis.par.get("box.rectangle")
box.rectangle$col<-"black"
trellis.par.set("box.rectangle", box.rectangle)
etc...
but straight from the call:
bwplot(y ~ x | z, mydata) ?

How do we omit the coastline using map?
I've been able to do most things I'd like to using the map package,
but I can't figure out how to fill a region without drawing a black
outline. I can draw the outline in a specified colour, but as soon as
I set fill to TRUE, I get a black outline in addition.
My map has a lot of activity on the coastline so I don't want a black
line obscuring what I do there. A pale colour to

subsetting character vector into groups of numerics
I'm sure there's a simple way to do this, but I can only think of
complicated ones.
I have a number of character vectors that look something like this:
"12 78 23 9 76 43 2 15 41 81 92 5(92 12) (81 78 5 76 9 41) (23 2 15 43)"
I wish to get it into a list of numerical vectors like this:
$Group
[1] 12 78 23 9 76 43 2 15 41 81 92 5
$Subgroup1
[1] 92 12
$Subgroup2

2 bwplots - different colors
Hi all,
I would like to draw one picture which would show two different types of
boxplots using the same axes (kind of on top of each other). However, I
would like to plot each boxplot using a different color or different
shading inside the box, so they could be better distinquished from each
other... Could you help me?
Here is an example of the plot I have so far. I was only able to change

(Lattice) How to improve the readability of a bwplot, i.e. separating groups somehow
Hi all,
first of all thanks for the answer to my previous question on lattice some
time ago.
In particular to Patrick Connolly for advices on netiquette (I hope this
time I'm doing right....)
and to Deepayan Sarkar fro the help on lattice.
Now, my nowaday problem.
Please consider the following
mydf<-cbind.data.frame(
RESPONSE = c(rnorm(9,rep(2:4,each=3),10),

More on list to data frame (was: Re: List to Data Frame
Hi,
Now suppose I have just one list called FOO, which has 25 objects, e.g.:
[[1]]
1 2 3 4 5
[[2]]
6 7 8 9 10

And I want to do something like:
FRED <- data.frame(cbind(unlist(FOO[[1]]),
unlist(FOO[[2]]),
# ... for all 25 subsets
))
Is it possible to do this, without doing unlist(FOO[[i]]) 25

How do I change plot colors in bwplot
Hello,
I'm using bwplot to make a few plots. The plots are exactly what I
need, but are coming out with a grey background and turquoise boxes and
whiskers. I cannot figure out how to just get black and white to be
the default. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

sweave bwplot error
Hi
I use sweave and have a problem with the following figure, but not with
other figures:
tt <- data.frame(c("a", "b", "c"), c(1.2, 3, 4.5))
names(tt) <- c("x1", "x2")
bwplot(x2 ~x1, data = tt)
ok now in sweave:
\begin{figure}[H]
\begin{center}
<<echo=FALSE, fig=TRUE, height=5, width=10>>=
lset(col.whitebg())

Does the perl language have an equivalent to browser?
I'm asking on this list because the question will be more easily
understood than on a Perl list. Lots of talented people using R also
know how to use Perl, so it's easier to ask them.
Running a Perl script with the -d switch can do some pretty neat
things, but as far as I can tell, every line has to be done
individually. Is there a way to specify where to stop in the way
browser() does

grid graphics and par settings
I see that adj is not a graphical parameter that can be used in a key
list to use with lattice functions.
Is that because it's not yet implemented in gpar? If so, it could
also explain why it's not available in grid.text.
Is there a work around? Centering looks silly on my plot.

Colour makes my life; but not my bwplot (panel.violin)
Using Trellis, am successfully setting up a number of panels (25) in which I
have two box and violin plots.
I would like to colour - one plot as RED and the other as BLUE (in each
panel). I can do that with the box plots, but the violin density areas just
take on one colour.
My basic call is as follows:
bwplot(rmsd ~ file | code,
data=spread_data.filtered,
panel = function(...,

Why can't Anove (car package) see the data?
At the end of the 'Details:' section of the help on Anova (car
package), it states:
The standard R `anova' function calculates sequential (type-I)
tests. These rarely test meaningful hypotheses.
So I thought I'd try it. However, I was perplexed to get this
message:

Default value for title in postscript function
I like the fact that the postscript function enables the possbiility
of a more useful title than before. However, I'd prefer the default
to be the file name.
It's very simple for me to make my own postscript function that does
just that simply by setting title = file. I always use onefile =
TRUE, so it always works (so far). However, I'm a little reluctant to
do that in case some
