large object disorientation
This is an inquiry for all those who have been working on external
data base applications. I sent an inquiry (below) to snews about
this sort of thing a couple of years ago and eventually decided that
I would wait to see what external database developments occurred and
then revisit the problem. I hope that foundations are now better.
Suppose for the sake of concreteness you have a large

Compiling R for Solaris 8/Intel CPU
Has anyone successfully compiled R on an intel machine running Sun OS?
I have heard it can't be done, I know S+ hasn't.
Thanks for any guidance;

The "Introduction to R" (from Cran website) also talks about it. See pg

lapply( *, names) -- bug ?!
This came on S-news
The more direct test being
sapply(c(a=1,b=2), names)
Problem:
R ("all" versions)
behaves the same as S+5.1, which is wrong IMO.
{since some might disagree, I didn't yet post to R-bugs ..}

RE: [S] lme vs. aov with Error term
Hi Bert,
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried lme with different
control parameters, and also tried using "ML", instaed
of "REML", but still got the same answers.
Yes, I hope some gurus on this list could give me some
hints.
Thanks

Re: S+ code
Dear Mr. Cleland, SEM-ueser, R-User, ...
there isn't s-plus or R (a GNU-free version of the programming language
S) code for structural equation modelling. I always wondered why. I
personally think the language S, with the implementations S+ and R, is a
good-perhaps the best-environment for statistical analyses. Why? It is
object orientated, logical, etc. For example: the code for least

Can anyone get winbind to update group membership?
Hi all,
Does this work for anyone out there? I've never gotten it to work:
(the set up is Samba as a member of an Active Directory run by Windows
servers.)
--------------
1. Pick an NT group that's been there since you installed Samba,
and of which you are a member. I'll call it DOMAIN\Oldgroup.
2. Run "chgrp DOMAIN\\Oldgroup test" then "chmod g+w,o-w

other flavors of Unix
I downloaded the source 2.2.5.tar file, untarred it, and ran through the
config.guess and configure scripts. I'm running on a Concurrent PowerMaxion
Motorola Unix version 4.1.3.....
With a new config.guess script I was able to run more of the configure
script but it bombs out on oplocks..with a message stating that running
samba would be unsafe without locking...
What can I do to get around

SAMBA UNIX and Windows Permissions with winbindd
Hi
Is it possible to have both unix permissions and Windows permissions on the same Directory?
We are Migrating to a SAMBA fileserver, and want this functionality.
I have a Win2k AD Domain, and SAMBA 2.2.8a , with these basic settings
security = domain
and winbindd running
nt acl support yes
I currently have winbind providing me with fully functional windows permissions..

problem with a selfmade helper method
Hi all,
i tried to set up the helper method "grouped_programs_selector" in
application_helpers.rb. Since i dont have a deep understanding of Ruby
itself, I pretty much copied the Grouped Selection List (Chapter 17, pp.
259, 260) example from Dave & David''s Book.
The optiongroups are properly created by my method, but there are no options
inside. Maybe you can debug this

Installation of Samba on SVR3 unix
Hi
I have attempted to install Samba on an ageing Motorola running SVR3.
Unfortunately it has a limitation of 14 characters for filenames,
which means that when I untar the package, many of the files are not
created.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem, or am I stuck?
Many thanks

installing packages and windows vista
I installed R (R-2.4.1-win32.exe) on a new computer with Windows Vista
and a 64 bit operating system (hp dv9000 with intel core t7200). The
base R runs fine, but I can not get any of the packages to load. From
within R I choose install packages choose a site then a package. I
tried installing 2 packages and get similar errors (see below), I just
copied and pasted lines from R.

asterisk-addons OS X
Has anyone had any luck getting the addon's to compile
under OS X? I have been able to get 1.06 to build and
run great, but I really want to get the
cdr_addon_mysql.so to enable mysql writing.
When I try to compile I get a bunch of Undefined
symbols and I have tried adding everything to my path.
I've got mysql_devel, etc.
