Problem with read.table and scan
I have just installed R on a Windows NT system. Unfortunately I am unable
to open any of the data files I wish to work with. I have tried using
read.table and scan and to the best of my knowledge am using the correct
syntax. The error message I receive is
Error in file(file, "r") : cannot open file [file name]
I have the data in text files in white-space delimited form. I put them

interpretation of lm
Dear statistitians / R users,
I was told to analyse the effects of the four factors
using lm or update for aov. The following is the

print to .jpeg
Evening folks,
I'm trying to print a series of graphs to .jpeg using a variable as the
title, but run into the difficultly that I can't find a way to append the
file extension to the .jpeg (in this case extensionless!) files.
Example:

sum a list of vectors
In Mathematica there is a neat feature, where you can change the head of a list from "list" to say "+" and obtain a sum of the list elements.
I can't find a way to sum a list of vectors of same length or list of matrices of the same dimension and was curious if something like that exists in R. do.call("+",list) doesn't work because "+" accepts only

Another release: Valin 3.0 is out!
I would like to announce the release of Valin 3.0. The release "party"
occurred on 16 December, but was restricted to only the two core
developers and the release managers. The features are similar to the
original Valin 2.0 release (which has evolved significantly since then),
including:
- 3.1 kg birth weight
- 48 cm height (more like the length in practice)

problems linking c++ code
I've been trying to learn about dynamically loading subroutines in R.
Ultimately I would like to use this approach to implement some
simulations. For the moment though, I've run into a problem compiling
c++ code and loading it into R.
The 'C/C++' and 'R'code below works fine when compiled and linked with
gcc, but gives an error when the library is compiled and linked with

I need to export a distance matrix in the following format :

I tried write.matrix() from the MASS library, which gives:

the package name in the upstream repo is e.g.:

decompose a correlation matrix
Is there a simple way to decompose the upper triangle
of a correlation matrix to a linear list;
For example:
X Y Z
X 1 2 3
Y 2 1 4
Z 3 4 1
so you get a list like:
xy 2
XZ 3
YZ 4
I suspect you can do it with a matrix transformation, but
that beyond me at present.

unexpected behaviour of search queries with mixed AND and OR
Hello,
I found out an unexpected behaviour of search queries with mixed
"AND" and "OR".
With search query "\( condA OR condB condC \)" I get an error:
Fatal: Use parenthesis when mixing ANDs and ORs
if I switch left and right OR-part and use the query
"\( condB condC OR condA \)"
I get a result, but it is not the expected result of the query

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and
wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow.
I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was
run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date
of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct.
This was mostly a question about why yum

Dynamic IP Addrress Work Around
I have one of my asterisks off an xDSL modem with a dynamic IP address. The
IP address keeps on changing so I am curious as to what other people are
doing to work around this issue. I am contemplating to register for a
dynamic DNS service but then my communications become dependent on the
availability of this service. The "host=dynamic" for SIP seems interesting.
Any suggestions?

Where does virt-manager store config in CentOS 7.1?

7.1?? I am not seeing anything in user's home directory ....
