Can one aply 'mgp' to individual axis?
Dear R-wizards! I want to move the axis label of the y-axis a little bit more apart from the border of the plot (otherwise, it would overlap with my horizontal numbering). 'par(mgp(3.5, 1, 0))' does it properly. Unfortunately, it also moves the x-axis label which does not look good. Is there a way to specify 'mgp' for each axis separately or is there another way to move just

Problem with logarithmic axes labelling
Dear R-helpers! Using logarithmic axes sometimes results in an odd labelling. In some cases, only half of the axes do have labels. Hmmmm. I've played around with par(lab=c(5,5,7)) but that didn't help. An example: ---- begin example ---- x <- c(0.12, 0.3, 0.53, 1.1, 1.8, 2.6, 4.5) y <- c(0.012, 0.021, 0.032, 0.055, 0.1, 0.2, 0.35) plot(x, y, log="xy",

Font settings in xfig
Hello I'm using the xfig-function in R to export figures in fig-format. To use these exported figures in LaTeX, I first run a fig2dev to get a pstex and pstex_t file. However, in order to get the right pstex_t file (that is, with the text of the original figure) I have to change the font and special text variables in the fig files. I would like R to do this font changing job, but I can't

expressions on graphs
Hello, I am trying to get a time derivative on a plot title. I prefer to have it in the form \dot{s_i}, but \partial s_i/\partial t would be O.K. In the graphics demo I cannot find either a dot or a partial equivalent. Thanks, John. -- ========================================== John Janmaat Department of Economics Acadia University, Wolfville, NS, B0P 1X0 (902)585-1461 All opinions stated

xfig device
Hi, I am VERY interested in getting the xfig driver so that I can edit graphical output from R. Searching through the mail archives and reading documentation isn't helping. Is there or isn't there a working driver for this purpose. How can I get it? I tried looking at the development version of the tarballs, but I didn't find anything that looked promising in there. Also, does

Editing R graphics
One of the few things that I miss from Splus is the ability of interactively add text and symbols to graphics that have been created by functions. I understand that the best solution in R is to create a graphic file and use external software for editing the graphic. I know what to use in the Win environment, but could anyone suggest what tools would be appropriate under Linux? Thanks Agus Dr.

dxf() like bmp() or postscript()?
hi- I have been using postscript()and contour() to do quick plots of geological sufaces and it would be handy to be able to dump a plot as an autocad dxf file for vector import into autocad. A search of rhelp of 99 thru 01 gave no matches for dxf. Any suggestions for a dxf or dump of a plot as vectors? Thanx Thanx Robert (Bob) L Sandefur Principal Geostatistician Pincock Allen & Holt

xfig boxplot (polygon) bug??
There appears to be a bug in the R xfig() driver. When I run a simple example, eg > data(InsectSprays) > boxplot(count ~ spray, data = InsectSprays, col = "lightgray") the boxplot is fine. Doing the same thing after > xfig(file='test.fig') and then opening in Xfig (ver3.2 patchlevel 2) on my Linux box produces boxplots where the boxes, although correctly shaded in,

postscript preview
gday R friends, I was wondering if anyone could help me with some graphics issues please. I'm processing R in batch on redhat6.2 with some graphics to be imported into msword on NT. For scaling within my doco I want some vector type graphics. win.metafile doesn't seem to be supported on redhat which gives me postscript. postscript is ideal but doesn't contain a preview so I

POLYGON: fill pattern instead of colors?
Hello all, I'm using R1.2.2 and wonder whether there is already a new (unofficial) version that supports fill patterns for polygon(). thanks M.E. -- +------------------------------------------------------- | Marcus Eger +-------- ><> ------------------------------------------- | E-Mail: eger.m at gmx.de (NEW) | marcus.eger at physik.uni-marburg.de (OLD) | WWW:

Graphics output device
Dear developers, I wonder would you consider making a save to a graphics file format (as opposed to ps)? What prompts this is that we have just finished my wife's thesis using R heavily for stats and graphs. The combination of latex, bibtex and R generated .eps worked a treat and we were very pleased with both the final outcome and the efficiency of gernerating it, especially when all the

Windows, gsview: corrupted bbox of .e?ps graphics
System: [Windows XP Pro, R 2.8.0 and R 2.81.] When I do R graphics on Windows and want .eps output for LaTeX, with *tight bounding boxes* I usually do as follows from Rgui: - Save as Postscript ... myfig.ps - Open myfig.ps in Gsview, select PS to EPS, Save as ... myfig.eps This always worked before, and gave me .eps files that did not include much more white space than I like, didn't

controlling usage of digits & scientific notation in R plots; postscript margins
Dear R users: I assigned students to make some graphs and I'm having trouble answering some questions that they have. We are all working on R 2.1 on Fedora Core Linux 4 systems. 1. In the plot, the axis is not labeled by "numbers", but rather scientific notation like "-2e+08" or such. We realize that means -200,000,000. We want to beautify the plot. We would rather

Sweave - landscape figure
Dear R-users I am trying to understand how Sweave works by running some simple examples. In the example I am working with there is a chunk where the R-commands related to plotting a figure are placed. When running R CMD Sweave ? , pdflatex the output is a portrait figure. I wonder whether it would be possible to change the orientation to landscape (not in the latex file but in Rnw file). Many

problems with .svg
Dear everybody! I am making a graph in R and employ pstoedit to expot the .pdf-output to .svg. When I open the .svg with firefox I get the .svg-code shown wit the following header: "Mit dieser XML-Datei sind anscheinend keine Style-Informationen verkn?pft. Nachfolgend wird die Baum-Ansicht des Dokuments angezeigt." Which information should how be included? Thank you in advance. Yours,

Difficulties in trying to do a mixed effects model using the lmer function
Dear people of the help list I am drying to analyze my data using the 'lmer' function and I keep having problems. This is the model: > fm1<-lmer(dbh~spec+scheme+(1|Plot),data=d, REML=FALSE). I analyse tree size (dbh) of 3 different species (spec) and 3 planting schemes (scheme). I have 5 plots, which I hope to model as a random factor. (However, the subsequent output is based on

The best way to end up with WMF files
Hi all I am doing some stats work for a group of biologists who require windows metafiles (*.wmf) for their publications. To create these, I appear to have two choices: 1. Restart my machine in Windows and use savePlot 2. Keep my machine in linux, save as another format, then convert. I'd rather stay in linux; but how do I get wmf files? I looked at using ImageMagick's convert,
