dotplot() lattice charts return blank image (jpeg, bmp, png) file
Thanks in advance for the help. Trying to run a basic dotplot in lattice from R command line. When the file is created, in Fedora, it is blank image (jpeg, bmp, png). Image produces correctly in Windows environment. Libraries lattice and latticeExtra are loaded. Code:
-----------------
jpeg(file = "/tmp/img/temp31.jpg", width = 768, height=768)
xy <- dotplot(1:10)
print(xy)

dotplot as a background for multiple barchart plots (with Lattice)
Hi R users,
I'm kind stuck in my R experience...
I want to have a multiple barchart with n windows, but with the same
background for each window, and I want that background to be a recorded
dotplot.
First, is it possible ?
If so, I guess I have to call a record plot in the panel function but how ?
As there is no panel.plot and I can't use the recorded plot as an
argument for the

dotplot: character size of labels
Dear R users,
using dotplot (R1.2.0, WinNT4.0), I am trying to change the character size
of the labels of the points:

> dotplot(VADeaths, main = "Death Rates in Virginia - 1940")
> # I'd like to have smaller character size of the labels (for age and
population groups)

color of error bars in Dotplot (Hmisc)
Hello!
In a grouped Dotplot, is there any way to set the color of error bars
to be the same as the corresponding symbols?
Example data:
require(lattice)
require(Hmisc)
data(barley)
Dotplot(variety~Cbind(yield, yield+2, yield-2)|year, groups=site,
data=barley)
I experimented with changing trellis settings of plot.line (as
mentioned in the Hmisc documentation) as well as col.line settings in

Putting 6 graphs on one page
Apologies, if it's a very simple question, but I am really not very
good with trellis.
I have a piece of a code (below) that works just fine and builds 6
graphs - in a loop. I loop through 6 conditions and build one graph
for each.
What would be the most efficient way of creating one page with 6
graphs instead? (2 rows and 3 columns)?
Thanks a lot!

Printing out a graph using different graphics devices
Hello, everyone!
The code below allows me to produce the graph I want (I know - the
colors are strange, but it's just for the sake of an example).
After you run the plot<- part and then do print(plot) - that's what I want.
However, when I run the bits of code below (with graphics devices) -
what they print is different from the original plot. In .png, .emf,
and .tiff - my dots change

Lattice dotplot with symbols sized and colored
Apologies if this is a naive beginners question.
I am trying to create a dotplot with the lattice dotplot function in which
my dots are colored differently depending on if positive or negative and
sized by sp.nc.bdrs.data$mwZ
I have tried...
dotplot(sporder ~ cvarorder | direct, data=sp.nc.bdrs.data,
cex=abs(sp.nc.bdrs.data$mwZ * 0.05),
xlab="climate variables",

Dotplot (package Hmisc) with groups: colours and symbols
Hello all,
This question concerns the function Dotplot from the Hmisc package.
My aim is to compare values between groups in each panel of the
Dotplot, with the values of different groups clearly distinguishable
by different symbols. All lines and symbols should be coloured in
black.
Before adding the panel function to the Dotplot, the groups behaved as
desired and were marked by different

dotplot & lattice problems: y axis values and bg color output in jpg
I have a linux system with Fedora Core 2 and R-2.0.
I was comparing plots made with plot() and dotplot() and discovered a
problem. Although the dots are positioned correctly, the numerical
labels in the dotplot y axis are not correct.
I put copies here:
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/R/plotTrouble1.jpg
That is the "correct" one from plot, with the higest value on y showing
at 18.

gray background in png
Hi all,
I'm having a problem creating png images with trellis.device. I would
like to create many plots with a white background using a sequence
number in the file argument (i.e. "%02d"). The first plot is as expected
with a white background. However, the second and all subsequent plots
have a gray background. I would like all plots to have a white (or
transparent)

Lattice: Superpose bwplot and dotplot [newbie question]
Hello everyone
I have dataset containing a monetary value (ABS) and two factors (Fct,
Group). I am able to create useful using:
bwplot(ABS~Group|Fct)
and
dotplot(ABS~Group|Fct)
Question: What do I have to do to overlay the dotplot with the bwplot (same
data set)?
I've found a couple of posts that hinted at the possibility of doing that,
and checked the panel.superpose() help, but the info

Help for R on Windows for non-Win-enabled!
Hi Folks,
I need help with a query about R on Windows, specifically
about graphics devices.
I'm advising someone remotely (so it's all by email) who
is running R on Windows, while I am not (Linux only).
Things have reached the stage where saving graphics plots
as Windows metafiles is looming.
I've been told that the result of "?device" in Windows is

Problem when combining dotplot() and textplot() using grid
Hi everyone.
I want to solve the following problem. I have a data.frame and I
create a dotplot using lattice.
Then I want to use the grid-package to create a combined graphic which
contains the dotplot as well as a textplot() (using package gplots) of
the data.frame next to the dotplot.
Example code:
library(lattice)
library(grid)
library(gplots)
xx <- data.frame(f=factor(rep(1:5, each=5)),

dotplot/Dotplot: connecting points within factor level across time
For each level of the factor in dotplot, I have time points I'd like to
connect with a line. In the example below, 'x' represents a starting
time and 'd' a duration, and I wish to connect 'x' to 'x+d'. Ordinarily
I would use Dotplot from hmisc for this, but I have not been able to
find a time class that Dotplot will allow. I can get lattice dotplot to

lattice problems under Win2K and R-1.4.0
I'm having problems copying and saving lattice graphs using R-1.4.0 under
Win2k. It seems I've see this alluded to recently in R-help.
If I do the following example:
> data(quakes)
> xyplot(long ~ lat , data = quakes)
And then try to copy or save the graph as either a metafile or bitmap or if
I use any of the bitmap/metafile devices via (for example)

dotplot (lattice) with panel.segments and groups
Hi,
The following produces almost exactly what I needed. The problems are
that the 'panel.dotplot' call (commented) generates the error 'Error in
NextMethod("[") : argument "subscripts" is missing, with no default'. The
other problem is that the colors alternate between the levels of the 'site'
variable, rather than 'year'.

[lattice] lines for stripplot (like dotplot) or jitter for dotplot?
I'd like to use stripplot for some plots because I want to use
the jitter parameter. On the other hand, I'd like to use dotplot
because I'd like to have the horizontal lines that it includes.
dotplot doesn't have a jitter option and I'm not having any
success with getting panel.grid(h=-1) with stripplot. Can anyone
show me how to make dotplot-like lines on a stripplot? Or
